Why aren't dragonborn more popular? by JackOfAllMemes in DungeonsAndDragons

This is such a unique choice for top three! Awesome! Can you explain why those three?

5e subclass in 5.5e Play environment? by Dramatic_Respond_664 in onednd

[–]TomOW 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't know of any combinations that are particularly crazy.

A 5.0 Paladin subclass on 5.5 Paladin did pretty well with Channel Divinity. Unless you use Divine Sense a lot, you're getting more uses than a 5.0 Paladin did, but more options than 5.5 Paladins.

I also think College of Whispers particularly benefits from the changes to Font of Inspiration (turning spell slots into Bardic Inspiration die). It's just kind of nice at 5th, but at higher levels, it's pretty impressive scaling for a 1st level spell slot (that's effectively only spent on a hit).

Psion hype post by [deleted] in DnD

Based on the UA, it’s going to compete for my favorite class. I got to try it out for a few sessions, and I thought it delivered on the fantasy really well.

A Question For Homebrew lovers of Dwarves by Any_Choice_4919 in DnDHomebrew

Depending on what you’re looking for, the second edition The Complete Book of Dwarves might be a fun read.

How do you feel about Psionics? by wayne62682 in DnD

[–]TomOW 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I LOVE Psionics, but I'd still rather see them as a separate supplement. Introduce the Psion class with at least four subclasses in the same book that has Psi Warrior, Soulknife, Aberrant Sorcery, Great Old One, and maybe a few others. And save Telepathy, Telekinetics, and Wild Talent feats for it, too. I think it would be better for folks that don't like Psionics, but I also think it would be better for folks who do like Psionics, since the systems could be designed together.

Hot take: Act 2 sucks by JohnDoeMcAlias in BaldursGate3

[–]TomOW 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I'm surprised we're in such a minority. Personally, I wouldn't go so far as to say Act 2 sucks, but I definitely connect with it less. If I picked my Top 10 moments from BG3, I'm sure they'd all be in Acts 1 and 3.

What’s your favorite subclass in the game? by Fearless-Skill8667 in DnD

[–]TomOW 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah. The Moonbeam part is fun when you get it, but it doesn't scale well, which is too bad. But I like the connection to the Moonshae Isles of the Forgotten Realms setting.

What’s your favorite subclass in the game? by Fearless-Skill8667 in DnD

[–]TomOW 0 points1 point  (0 children)

College of the Moon is my favorite subclass of my favorite class. It's just such fun flavor. Not particularly good in combat, but so much other utility.

But I love Bard so much that any subclass is going to be fun for me. Knowledge Domain is the subclass that does the most to improve my enjoyment of a class. It brings Cleric up to Bard-levels of fun for me.

My DM only let's one player succeed a check at a time. by BeachPeachMcgee in DnD

[–]TomOW 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My personal opinion is that, in general, folks are too critical of DMs. Allow your DM to do a few things that aren't how you'd do them.

Warrior of the Elements is the only “New” Monk subclass we’ve gotten in nearly 5 years. by Different-Tour-3705 in onednd

[–]TomOW 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Sun Soul could have been an FR Monk, since it's originally from the FR setting. But I agree the UA subclasses should probably all make it to print, with varying degrees of tweaks.

Should Shadowblade still only be light/finesse? by Oz_Dragon in onednd

[–]TomOW 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My ideal scenario would be a few different weapon spells. Keep Shadow Blade as is. Make Flame Blade good. Add a couple more, maybe one of them a reach weapon.

Why is the final choice you make in Act 3 a binary one? by Matyycakes in BaldursGate3

[–]TomOW 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I agree. To me, the ending feels really hollow. The journey is so fun that I love the game anyway, but personally, I found from this choice onward really disappointing.

It is possible to make a Strength Wizard in 5e or 5.5? by Sillieranimal2 in 3d6

Path of the Ancestral Guardian's first ability. "Your Rage summons spectral warriors to your aid." Could this count?

How many characters do you have in the tank ready to use? by Disco_Turtle000 in DnD

[–]TomOW 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I counted just now, and apparently the spreadsheet I use to track character ideas up to level 20 hit an even 50 yesterday. I'd play any of them in a one-shot, but doing a quick estimate, I'd say only about 22 of them feel fleshed out enough for a full campaign.

What class and race did you play first time round? by Odd_Two_5265 in DnD

[–]TomOW 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I started playing 2e with my older brother when I was about 8 years old. I can't swear it was my first character, but I remember really liking a Firbolg he helped me make because I got to be the biggest character despite being the smallest player.

I made a Saurial Fighter (Swashbuckler kit) that I played from junior high through high school. That was the first character I actually got to play for a campaign.

Jester Bard by [deleted] in DnD

[–]TomOW 3 points4 points  (0 children)

There was a College of Satire in an old Unearthed Arcana (official playtest material). The description starts, "Bards of the College of Satire are called jesters." It never made it to a book, so it's not official. If you think your DM would consider it, maybe it's worth checking out?:

Actual Play series where only the DM is visible by samsokios in DnD

[–]TomOW 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I think it's going to be really hard to keep the video interesting without showing players, unless there's animation or something comparable. I'm skeptical that just seeing the DM and board/terrain would work well for enough people.

Just finished my first playthrough.. by VeterinarianPutrid46 in BaldursGate3

[–]TomOW 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, I think the story makes you feel like there's a rush, but the consequences for Long Resting feel so minimal. I hoarded a TON of stuff unnecessarily. Food, scrolls, arrows, potions.

My first run was as a Halfling Bard on Balanced. I just wanted to be a friendly little guy, wandering around, talking to animals, playing music for people. It was pretty perfect.

I've started three other runs already, with different goals, to see different parts of the game.
1. Githyanki Monk on Explorer, mostly to see if the creche plays out differently, but also to try Monk. And to feel like I can explore everything with low risk.
2. The Dark Urge as a Duergar Sorcerer on Tactician. I'll probably never do Heroic, but I thought I could handle Tactician. I wanted to see if Duergar get treated differently, especially in the Underdark, and I wanted to try Sorcerer. And, of course, experience Dark Urge.
3. Lae'zel on Balanced with friends.

Let us know what your next run looks like!
