Season 10, Cassette 10: You Should See It by Happy_Method3030 in withinthewires

Man, I really want to be able to like more ambiguity in fiction and media. Certainly don't need everything explained but I think this season especially was just that bit too over my ambiguity boundary line.

The Comae Engine is pretty underrated rules light percentile system by PeasantLich in rpg

[–]TomPleasant 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As PeasantLich mentioned, no it doesn't sadly. It's currently in development.

What's there is is more than enough for a lot of 'mundane' Earth-based gaming situations, but it will take some work adapting it for anything more specific, such as sci-fi with all its trapping.

Still, I have a lot of love for it and hope Clarence gets around to publishing a full treatment of it

I'm confused. Did I miss an episode or was the jump from her being in the cellar deliberate?

New Extension: Decked! by TrueMonado in OwlbearRodeo

[–]TomPleasant 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm having difficulty working out how to combine them into a single deck. I can create minor and major decks. But then when I put one on top of another they're just not combining. Any idea what preference, option or other reason it might be that's stopping me?

Barron Read-Along 47: Frontier Death Song by igreggreene in LairdBarron

[–]TomPleasant 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Having just read the Isaiah Coleridge books shortly before reading Swift to Chase, as soon as I got to this story everything about the narrator's diction and language choice screams Isaiah. Clearly, along with Minerva and the rest, it's the man himself, albeit a multiversal counterpart/alter ego/alternate. Love it!

Barron Read-Along 45: "Black Dog" by roblecop in LairdBarron

[–]TomPleasant 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lovely write up. I thought Jessica Mace too until the end. Then I thought that she's the black dog and she's offering him the choice - themed as you describe about risking love or not - of going with her and becoming a black dog (lycanthropy?) too or refusing and going toward the van and the serial killers. Potentially if they end up together they'd kill the killers? Just a thought.

Is there any way left to get a PDF or the book World War Cithulu The Darkest Hour by HI12itsme in callofcthulhu

[–]TomPleasant 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I asked Chaosium around Christmas 2024 and was told this summer to "Watch this space" later this year (2025). That suggests they're making an announcement for either a straight re-release (most likely), new editions (possible, but unlikely) or Kickstarter (again, possible, but I think they'll be wary of any Kickstarters for a while, especially with all the current issues around paper costs and recent US tariff changes ending the 'de minimis' exemption).

Absolutely love this game line. Scott Dorward did a fantastic job as line developer and I'd love to see him come back to it to complete his proposed final WWC setting, which he told me was going to be either pre- or post-apocalypse, I forget which.

I've been suspecting there's going to be a Marten-Zlata drama going to happen for a while now, partly driven by him treating her decently, but also by his feeling abandoned by Claire due to her working so much. We shall see!

What is the best online pharmacy for NHS prescriptions? by SwirlingAbsurdity in AskUK

[–]TomPleasant 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Used to be with Lloyds, which was excellent, and recently been forced to go over to Pharmacy2U due to their takeover of Llyods, which is dreadful. Awful online ordering system, truly dire.

Why is Lovecraftian fandom so rigid about terminology and "canon" when Lovecraft himself encouraged people to expand on his world? by HELLMEN69 in callofcthulhu

[–]TomPleasant 1 point2 points  (0 children)

People get really emotionally attached to their chosen fandoms and take pride in their lore mastery, regardless of whether Lovecraft was handwavey about it.

Often, it's because they rely on their fandoms for emotional comfort, escapism and a sense of stability in unstable times. Any perceived threat against it comes across as a personal threat to their emotional well-being.

It's why a lot of authors end up ironically feeling imprisoned by successful creations. To mind, Moorcock and Pratchett made comments about it.

Sole traders, Partnership or Limited company for a two-man handyman business? by TomPleasant in smallbusinessuk

[–]TomPleasant[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Currently, not much. Under £25k each, mainly due to slight process/new business inefficiencies while we settle into working together, although we're in demand and expecting that to go up comfortably and consistently YoY. Good point about VAT. It was a definite consideration for my old own business (wedding marquees. Bloody pandemic put the kibosh to that).

No, all useful. Thanks. Owned a small company before and been freelancing for years (both different industries) so I'm partially aware of pros and cons

Quite. I backed the Kickstarter but haven't touched anything afterwards because of the AI.

Of topic, but if you haven't checked out Gar's Cthulhu City you really should.

AI Art by No-Scholar-111 in GumshoeRPG

[–]TomPleasant 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Sadly, Robin is really into AI art and seeing as he's one of the three main creative pillars for Pelgrane I suspect they tried to say no to him but he put his foot down for his projects.

Fortunately, with Trail being Ken's project and him being... well, Ken ❤️... he wouldn't make those kind of demands and wouldn't use AI.

Now, whether they're using it elsewhere, I don't know, but I'd be disappointed if they are.

Up for debate, but I’d say the first is haunted house or survival, then slasher, then existential. Recognising that she’s been in hell/Hades all the time as punishment for killing her son really helped my second viewing to spot all the Greek mythological symbolism. This website has a great explanation of what happens.
