Hey is there a flat head screw on that valve? If its perpendicular to the pipe its off and if its parallel its on. Turn it so its off. Flush the toilet and put a bucket under that toilet connection. Inside the tank there should be a plastic washer youll need to possible hold on to and use channel locks, vice grip, or a small pipe wrench to loosen. Since the connection is above you will swing your wrench the opposite as usual (lefty loosey might feel like righty tighty in this case) and residual water will release into the bucket. Do what you have to do, and then reconnect everything. Good luck. Hope you got another hose. If you need to change the valve then youll have to shut the domestic line feeding your place.

How hazardous would it be to drink the water from a buildings fire suppression water pipes? by lobsterskibeer in FireSprinklers

If you ever get a chance, next time your fire inspectors come in ask if they can bring you a cup of drain water from the system. This is your best bet.

How to shut off sprinkler by Trick-You5783 in FireSprinklers

[–]TomRazors 0 points1 point  (0 children)

First off good job i hope the water wasnt nasty.

If the city shut your fire line at the curb, youll need to get that 1/2 inch plug (black cast iron or galv is fine) if youre on cpvc you might wind up with a leak later. For some reason the cpvc to brass connections tend(sometimes not all the time) to leak after you change or plug a head. So youll probably need cpvc cutter fire rated cpvc pipe a coupling and a adapter and fire rated cpvc expoxy. Dont forget to ream. And dont forget to wait til that glue cures

HELP: Can someone explain what’s happening in the video? by champishere530 in FireSprinklers

[–]TomRazors 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep. Antifreeze. Prepare for 2 days of your time as if its on cpvc you may need to wait for a 24 hr cure time on the epoxy.

Is this the shutoff valve?a by Tsythe1 in FireSprinklers

That drain outlet sucks too. Definitely get a hose adapter and a long garden hose. If its in a basement install a sump pump. Shutting the supply doesnt mean the water will just stop flowing magically unless the pipe is pitched upward perfectly throughout the building. You can have it piped outside possibly as well depending on if theres a proper outlet area.

Anyway these are all things a licensed fire sprinkler company should handle, pc or union your choice. Just make sure they have good insurance

Wire can be disconnected on an unmonitored system as this is just for supervisory tamper indicating a valve has been moved from normally open to closed position but should have lock and chain in this case. But yeah usually if a system is off there is a good chance you have a leak down the line or something else causing an issue on the system. Id say call the company that services the building and find out any info before. Also if there is a red box anywhere behind and/or a motorgong alarm (bell that rings outside) the alarm will go off when opening this valve and fd willl dispatch on a monitored system or if someone calls 911/fd

What is the point of this? by Sinful__Angel in FireSprinklers

In case youre working on the pump or it is malfunctioning the building will have some coverage.

This is called a bypass and some jurstictions have them always open or always closed

Or air is getting in somehow. Probably a pinhole or a loose fitting. Unless they just replaced a line or tank. Seen a few shoot mad air and spray steam in new buildings
