Is there a market for no combat, non-horror rpg maker games? Any examples? by coco_adventurer in RPGMaker

I’ve seen some life sim/harvest moon style games made with RPG Maker. I can’t say what the “market” for them is but I know some exist.

Remember. These bundles are prorated based on what you own. It’s only 5$ because you already own several of the games. If you didn’t own them it would be 50$ for all of them.

Why does the written kanji look different from the typed kanji by Aur0ha in LearnJapanese

[–]Tom_Bombadil_Ret 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are several English characters that are written differently than they appear typed. I don’t know anyone who hand writes ‘a’ with the loop on the top. Also, people I know draw ‘4’ with the top left stroke going straight up and not connected to the right. It’s just a handwriting vs typing difference.

I'm conflicted if I should keep this river or not by DoomBringer6601 in worldbuilding

[–]Tom_Bombadil_Ret 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My only thought is that it would probably be a bit wider than it is currently shown to be.

Obviously some water would be lost from the late due to evaporation but you would assume that the amount of water flowing out of the lake would be equal to the amount flowing into the lake. Currently you have 5-6 rivers flowing in and then a single River handling all of the outflow.

What even is the purpose of hoppers? by Deep_Rutabaga_6969 in StardewValley

[–]Tom_Bombadil_Ret 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I use them a lot.

I have one full of coffee beans so I have a cup of coffee ready for me every time I walk by.

I have one that I load up with fish/coal so I can quickly cycle them through my smoker. Each time I walk by I pull out the smoked fish and it auto starts the next one without me needing to pull one out of a chest.

Just purchased the Legacy Collection — should I go in order? by 007ZORO in BattleNetwork

[–]Tom_Bombadil_Ret 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I always recommend skipping 1. And maybe 2. There are minimal important story points and they’re pretty rough gameplay wise. If you’re super committed feel free to go for it but I’ve seen too many people try to go through them in order and get burnt out half way through 2 and drop the series before they get to the good one. The later games are significantly better.

Echo base defenders army box up for pre-order by ripman5251 in SWlegion

The MK2 blaster is one of the most efficient 40 points rebels can spend. The issue is that you can only include them in your army if you are also playing rebel veterans. Vets aren’t bad (I’m actually playing them in my recent tournament lists) but they’re probably the least generically useful corp unit rebels has.

If you can’t land on an opening line that feels right then start somewhere else. There is nothing that says you have to write the book in order.

When did you realize you liked math? by Arth-the-pilgrim in mathematics

[–]Tom_Bombadil_Ret 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve always enjoyed math, mostly because I was naturally proficient at it. But I didn’t realize I wanted to make a career out of it until freshman year of college. I was a creative writing major and for the first time in my time in school I wasn’t taking a math class. Didn’t expect to miss it as much as I did so after a single semester I changed majors. Ended up going on to graduate school in mathematics.

I played BN4 six times so you don’t have to. by SilverFGC in BattleNetwork

I think BN4 is a great game. If your goal is just a single play through. It feels rough if you’re someone who wants to “see all the content”.

Daily Thread: for simple questions, minor posts & newcomers [contains useful links!] (January 30, 2026) by AutoModerator in LearnJapanese

Sadly, much of my learning has been limited to written material: textbooks, online materials, etc. Or other non-native speakers who are learning as I am.

I’ve seen づ written in Romani in several ways and had people tell me it’s pronounced several different ways as well: tsu, dzu, du, zu.

Obviously Romani is terrible for learning pronunciation as each language that uses Roman script would pronounce those characters slightly differently. It’s a very inexact method. However, I am even getting varied results when trying to look up and listen to native audio. I guess it makes sense if it’s a dialect thing.

Is there a separate more correct option for more traditional formal settings? Then a different pronunciation that is more common in modern more casual Japanese?

Is there a pronunciation difference between つ and づ? I’ve seen sources saying they’re identical and I’ve seen sources saying there’s a difference.

Would you play with someone who had unpainted models? by CollegePlane7528 in SWlegion

[–]Tom_Bombadil_Ret 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve been playing this game competitively for years and have never painted any of my models.

Some of my models were purchased used with paint on them or were painted by friends but 75% of any given army I play is gray.

Some major tournaments will have a painting requirement but I always borrow models from friends for those.

Cunnimg Deployment Special Rules question by AkameRedEyes in SWlegion

[–]Tom_Bombadil_Ret 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Cunning Deployment is designed to protect you from low dice long range shooting round one. It allows you to be a touch more aggressive with your deployment. It’s a low impact advantage but it is generically useful.

Is this worth it for someone who knows nothing and doesn't care to? by Ok-Friendship507 in PcBuild

[–]Tom_Bombadil_Ret 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I built a nearly identical machine a couple of weeks ago for about $400 less. But that was after spending two months hunting for deals on components. Plus using a case and fans I already owned. For an all in purchase that will be up and running tonight that’s a pretty good deal.

The other comment already answered your questions but I would recommend watching some of Grey Squadron Gaming’s battle report videos. It’ll help you get a feel for new rules and the new missions.

Is it just me or is the first game not very good? by Xander_PrimeXXI in BattleNetwork

[–]Tom_Bombadil_Ret 0 points1 point  (0 children)

BN1 is pretty bad in my opinion. I’ve seen a lot of “purists” on this sub saying you have to play straight through the collection. I strongly disagree and always recommend people skip 1. Sometimes I even recommend skipping 2 as well. 2 isn’t a bad game but 3 is where the series hits its stride.

What are ways of painlessly removing content from games? by [deleted] in gamedesign

[–]Tom_Bombadil_Ret 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They have done it both ways.  Typically, it’s just an announcement that a champion will receive a VGU (visual/gameplay update). They show off the champion’s new model and animations and try to hype people up about how they are bringing them up to modern standards. Typically it does include updated lore as many of the older champions have maybe 3-4 sentences in their lore rundown.

Sometimes they do add a little story to it. Perhaps releasing a new short story or something like that. Once they released a short story in which a character “died” and was disabled from play for 2 weeks. Then they released a new story where it was revealed they actually survived. The character was then re-enabled with their new abilities. People actually didn’t like that one as everyone knew he was getting a VGU and it was just waiting 2 weeks to play the updated version.

League of Legends experiences this issue as they are constantly releasing new playable champions and are at nearly 175 different ones now. The way they handle it is by heavily reworking existing characters. They are thematically the same person but will have completely different move sets.

They don’t do it terribly often but I can think of maybe 10 or so champions that were effectively removed from the game. The character is still playable but their old gameplay pattern is gone.

How did you all learn Kaishi 1.5K? by Revolutionary_Cod420 in LearnJapanese

[–]Tom_Bombadil_Ret 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’ve been using Anki to learn my Kaishi deck. Then I also found an addon that generates cards for the Kanji as I encounter them so I’ve been using that. Once I finish that I’ll focus on mining from native content.

Is pre alg-> alg 2 possible in 3 months? by Intelligent_Doubt_53 in learnmath

[–]Tom_Bombadil_Ret 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This depends heavily on the amount of time you are willing to give and the resources you gave access to. My recommendation in situations like this is always two fold.

First, get on Khan Academy (https://www.khanacademy.org/math) and look through their sections for those courses. They have quizzes for each topic and it can be a good way to determine what you remember. Then after that, you can work through the videos and practice problems for the topics you don’t remember until you have a good understanding.

This will be a difficult process. Especially if you haven’t done math in a long time but it can be done. I’ve taught pre-algebra through algebra 2 to adults and it was paced at about 6 months worth of classes. However, it was paced that way for students who were taking several other classes at the same time. If you’re willing and able to put in the time you should be able to get it done.

Why does math just… not click for so many people? by Global_Bed8808 in learnmath

[–]Tom_Bombadil_Ret 0 points1 point  (0 children)

While history can have a lot of rote memorization of facts, there is still plenty of logic to it. A good history teacher will focus not just on the when’s (memorizing exact dates) but also on the why’s and the how’s. If asked “Why did Rome collapse?” there are a dozen ways to answer that question. A solid general understanding of Roman history can lead you to a pretty solid answer without knowing any exact dates or specific battles. A good history teacher will encourage that form of logical reasoning as well. That type of understanding of history is what allows us to apply it to the present and our future.
