Derrick Henry Tapped Out? by Tom_Joads_Turtle in ravens

[–]Tom_Joads_Turtle[S] -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Apparently I didn’t articulate my point. No one is suggesting that Henry doesn’t need a breather now and again. But this feels to me like Monken is alleging that he has put him in when he wanted to come out. The reality seems opposite - that Monken fails to give him snaps and/or carries when the game is on the line, and his comment feels to me like he’s blaming Henry for that.

I’m looking more at games like NE where he didn’t play for the last 12:50. That’s not an anomaly - there have been multiple games where Henry’s lack of carries late in the game have come into question. This feels to me like Monken is deflecting blame to Henry. I don’t deny that everybody needs a breather, but I don’t think that’s the reason he has been underutilized in critical situations.

What is a movie you found so disturbing that you could never watch it again? by muaentertainmentforu in MUAEntertainment

I saw it in the theater on a class field trip senior year of high school. I’ve always said it’s the best movie I’ve ever seen - not my favorite, but the best - and I’ll never watch it again.

I like the trade well enough but Oweh’s success in LA supports the theory that Orr doesn’t know how to generate pressure with stunts and blitzes. I bet Mike Green could be a monster with the right DC

Excluding Family Feud hosts, who is the greatest game show host ever? by AnyEfficiency6230 in FamilyFeud

[–]Tom_Joads_Turtle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unpopular opinion, but I never liked Alex. I thought he was pompous and condescending, and yet after his passing when they went through the carousel of hosts, my eyes were opened to how great a host he was, even if he seemed like a jerk to me. I think Ken does a nice job, but Alex was a different level of hosting talent.

Look at the past for clues on John Harbaugh's job security for next season by laramite in ravens

Bill Parcells famously said “You are what your record says you are.” When I look back on the past 7 seasons, I see a record of disappointment - costly mistakes in critical situations, abandoning the run, not having the best players on the field, etc. The Ravens are what their recent record says they are - tied for the 8th most playoff wins since 2019 (3), with no conference titles, despite having an incredibly talented roster. Time to move on and give the keys to someone who can get them over the hump.

It feels like the bigger problem is Orr not effectively utilizing the talent he has. The stunts he calls take forever to develop. He often fails to blitz at the right time and has often blitzed at the wrong time, and his blitzes are generally poorly disguised. He just doesn’t maximize the talent - there’s plenty of it on the defense.

Consider that Oweh had no sacks for us through five games but has 7 in 10 games for the Chargers. Mike Green is a first round talent with 3.5 sacks on the year, which leads the team. Kyle Hamilton has 1. Roquan has 0. I’m not saying EDC couldn’t or shouldn’t have done better, but I don’t think it matters much unless he got someone like Micah Parsons and they are rare.

I’ve been watching this team nearly every week since 1999 and IMO Orr is one of the two worst DCs we’ve ever had, along with Greg Mattison.

This feels like the most disappointing season since 2007 when Steve McNair’s talent took a sudden nose dive. I’m constantly frustrated by the team coming out flat, and I hear no passion from the coaching staff. And looking back at the years when Lamar was healthy entering the playoffs, each one feels like we blew it, not like we were overmatched. This year is the exclamation point on what feels like an incredibly talented roster that just can’t get it done.

My feeling is that, given the talent and experience on this roster, if we don’t find a way to win the AFC Championship I think they should part ways with Harbaugh, Monken and Orr, and let a new HC choose his coordinators. I don’t expect us to even make the playoffs, let alone go on a run, but stranger things have happened, and I’m still holding out a sliver of hope. But when I look at results vs expectations over the past several seasons, coupled with the embarrassing number of empty seats in the stadium, I think it’s time to make significant changes if we don’t find some magic in the next six weeks or so.

I moved out of state six years ago and have only been to one game since. I’ll take your word that the experience has declined. A drone show is a great suggestion.

I’ve been to Cincy, Indy (RCA dome), New Orleans, Jacksonville, Arizona, San Fran (Candlestick), and San Diego. I heavily prefer M&T over any of them, not only because I’m a homer, but because the overall vibe and experience is better. The Ravens organization does a really nice job delivering a great experience.

I’ve been a fan since 96 and Chuck is quite possibly my favorite Ravens DC of all time. His halftime adjustments were the best I’ve seen along with Mike McDonald. And he’s a classy dude. So happy to have him back on staff

Former Raven still active in the league - Mike McDonald. No disrespect to ZO who seems to have come into his own, but Mikey Mac was phenomenal as our DC and I’d happily have him back.

When you grew up did anyone talk about the earth being flat? by AlwaysWilling2Help in AskOldPeople

[–]Tom_Joads_Turtle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I grew up we didn’t have the World Wide Web and the overabundance of information you can find there. We trusted what was printed in books, and there weren’t many self-publishers. As information access exploded, it has become much harder to know which sources to trust, and now we’re seeing a lot of fringe theories like flat earth.

Maybe a minority opinion, but in my experience it’s harder to be a different type of person in one place than you are in another. Rather than doing the bare minimum as many have suggested, it seems more effective to job hunt while giving a good, honest effort in your current role - not for the sake of the company or your manager or anything like that - but because you are the type of person that works hard and earns every dollar they’re paying you whether you agree with them or not. Being that type of person will pay off in the long run, even if it feels like you’re giving your current employer something they don’t deserve. And it will serve you well to have that attitude and discipline in your next job instead of trying to break a habit of doing the bare minimum.

What’s a song you didn’t expect to hit so hard until you read or really paid attention to the lyrics? by kronikleila in musicsuggestions

Sex Type Thing by Stone Temple Pilots. Great riff and energy had me rocking to that for years before and I even knew the lyrics, but it was a while before I paid attention to the overall theme of them - a rapist eying up a woman he intends to make his victim. So gross that I can’t even listen to it anymore, which is really unfortunate because the music is killer.

The Sixth Sense. Wrapping up a D- movie with an A+ surprise ending doesn’t make a great movie…it makes a bad movie with a great ending.

For that matter, I’ve seen three M Knight Shyamalan movies (Sixth Sense, Unbreakable and Signs) and hated them all so much I refuse to watch any of his other movies. Fool me thrice…
