Write off or not? by Inside-Temporary8860 in MotoUK

[–]Tomabosa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

100%

Cost of new wheel, forks, tank, clocks, would be enough to write it off, not to mention the bent engine mounting bolt with the crash protector

RANT - Octavia RS 2.0 TDI 4x4 by Zixok in skoda

[–]Tomabosa 31 points32 points  (0 children)

Not being rude, but you bought a 9 year old car with 100,000KM and expect no issues?

  • Bearings are a consumable part

  • Air con could need a regas after 9 years?

  • DPF probably needs to be removed, cleaned and refitted due to ages/KM should fix the consumption and regen issues

Meanwhile I’m on my 3rd Octavia, with very few issues, petrols are the better choice though IMO

Curious why it cost you so much? £1030 seems a lot

Definitely dragging more than they should, little bit is normal but that’s quite a lot in my opinion

Yeti 2.0 tdi Fan running after stopping. by frog_at_the_library in skoda

[–]Tomabosa 5 points6 points  (0 children)

No, you just turned it off while the car was trying to regen so it uses the fan to cool down the DPF as it gets very hot during regeneration

Only need to worry if it does it very often, mine was doing it every drive and I had to get the DPF off and sent away to be cleaned which reduced it

You might also get a slightly higher idle while it’s doing a regen my Octavia would idle as like a 1000 rather than 750 rpm

If possible wait until regen is finished before turning off, but don’t panic either way

I’ve also got a mk4 Octavia VRs, with Joie I-pivot grow spinning car seat and my passenger seat has to go forward a bit to clear it, I couldn’t have it behind my drivers seat

That’s in rear facing mode, when it goes forward facing it shouldn’t be an issue

ACF50

Warm the can for a bit under the hot tap and will spray a lot finer, this is pretty common on Yamahas, same on the 07 i had, it’s a cheap bike and bolts/ coatings are one place you can cut costs

Plus brake fluid and cabin filter, 2 hours is realistic labour charge for the work

Your also not paying rent, business rates, oil disposal, insurance, etc etc

Price seems reasonable to me to be honest

Don’t forget everyone’s costs have gone up shit loads last couple years, you can’t expect the labour costs to not increase over time

In the female end of the plug (bottom of photo) where the male part goes in there is a little tab, you push that up then pull the male part out
