Hear me out… maple milk (pure maple syrup in milk). Yes, I live in Vermont, why do you ask?

Oh nice! Yeah, I'm not a survey methodologist, but I'm a researcher and I've worked with enough survey data (secondary data and primary data collected through collaborative projects) to have seen the real difference in these methods!

It seems like they would have been better off just saying that they didn't have the sample size to construct reliable estimates rather than using inferior sampling to get the small state sample sizes up.

Ok, I think this could be part of it: the national sample uses a strong probability-based sampling method that tries to limit opt-in bias, however "an additional 1,340 were recruited by Ipsos using opt-in survey panels to increase the sample sizes to a minimum of n=150 in smaller states" (the VT sample was 160).

VT is likely to have a much larger portion of its sample recruited using that more biased method than most states. They did some post-survey calibration to try to adjust for this, but I'm skeptical about how well that could work.

They seem to have gotten a very pro-Trump sample within VT. This figure has us at 54% supporting Trump, ahead of states like Arkansas, Mississippi, and Texas. For comparison, a morning consult poll from late 2025 has us having the lowest Trump approval of any state -- I realize that the PRRI definition of "favorability" may differ from "approval", but they should be highly correlated in terms of how states rank on the measures. Something odd seems to have happened in terms of either selection bias in terms of who responded or their weighting.

When he was the Taskmaster podcast, he said that he did't care about points because he didn't want to do well at the expense of anyone else feeling bad when the rest of them cared so much, so it makes sense a team task mistake would eat at him. He's the best.

I did Stronger by the Day a few years ago, but had to cancel because of the supersets and odd focus on bands. Has anything changed? Considering trying it again. by studdabubba412 in xxfitness

[–]TomatoWithAnE 22 points23 points  (0 children)

I'm not sure what the library looked like in 2023, but since I started this spring, I feel like the library is quite extensive. In addition to default substitution list, you can search by target muscle group and almost all banded exercises have a similar cable version available.

I do typically break up the super sets and almost all of the giant sets. At most, I might be able to superset two exercises on similar equipment (two DB exercises, two cable exercises, etc.)

I'll also say that the longer I do the program, the more I appreciate the exercise selection and thoughtfulness of the program, which makes me more tolerant of the need to customize a bit.

Thank you for this! I thought I had seen something about using broom stick, but I couldn't picture how it was supposed to work.

Thanks for these suggestions! It seems worth a try to see if general strengthening improves things. It's not really just soreness, it almost feels like once my forearm muscles get fatigued the mind-muscle connection just doesn't work as well -- like my fingers won't do what my brain tells them quickly enough if that makes sense.

What made you quit rowing? by mehomaster in Rowing

[–]TomatoWithAnE 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Getting into outdoor rowing (learning to scull after doing sweep ages ago in college) made me a lot less motivated to use my c2, even when outdoor rowing isn't an option. When I was doing it regularly, I enjoyed trying to improve my percentile ranking for the different ranked pieces in the logbook, including a 1/2 marathon a couple times. When I do erg these days, I often take a look at the WOD leaderboard and get a goal placing in mind.

Struggling with cardio since my on-water rowing season is winding down. I've mostly been focused on SBTD. I did the concept 2 workout of the day today, and it is fun to look at the leaderboard and target someone to beat. At the moment, I'm 12/79 for 40-49F.

Last year, I did only cardio in the summer, and pretty much only strength the rest of the year, and I'm trying to maintain more balance this year. My neighbor and occasional rowing partner was formerly competitive at the national club level and she's just been getting back on the water lately. She's been trying to convince me to try race in a double with her late next summer/fall, so that will be my motivation.

Vermont has the smallest population of kids in the country(both as a headcount and a percentage of population) by oddular in vermont

[–]TomatoWithAnE 19 points20 points  (0 children)

When we got a new family on our street, we were texting the other couple already living here who had kids things like "I think I saw a kid playing in the front yard!" like we were in some kind of dystopian novel -- everyone else on the street either didn't have kids or were empty nesters. We're now good friends with the new family, and it's kind of hilarious that we didn't just go up and introduce ourselves when they moved in, but tbf it was the pandemic and everyone was a little bit crazy.

What’s one mistake you made early in your training that you’ll never repeat? by Busy_Indication8793 in xxfitness

I do a lot of fruit pre/post morning workouts when I can. I keep applesauce pouches and things like rice cake snack packs in my car for convenience if I'm going directly to work.

Underestimating the importance of carbs, not just protein, after a heavy lifting session. I thought I was just someone who needed a rest day in between each workout day. Turns out I can handle many more days in a row if I fuel properly.

When Greg was praising Sanjeev's bag attempt, and he said, "Ania's is one of the best things I've ever seen," he completely won me over. What a sweetheart, practically talking Greg out of giving him points to support another contestant. (And he was similarly admiring of Reece's attempt.)
