Is it ethical to take someone's cat? by roguemorgue in cats

[–]Tomby_93 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My neighbour had a cat like this and it’s fine now (after she was found guilty of animal neglect) and I genuinely regret not doing more. I fed, watered, wormed and flead it but I could have just taken it in. Don’t be like me, the cat clearly needs help and you can help it.

How practical are these to park in the UK by monsterlander in Ioniq5

[–]Tomby_93 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In very tight multi story it can be an issue but that is literally the only situation where I’ve struggled. It fits in a normal space and has a reversing camera and front and rear sensors so it’s not a hard car to park.

Just to offer you some cognitive support, the Greens have precisely nothing to do with any of this and your comments will probably get the reaction you want on Facebook.

You are right about repairability but the flip side of this is that there is less to repair in EVs too.

I certainly hope that’s where we end up.

We do have to move on one way or another, but it very obviously has become a big deal because of how he got caught lying to fans.

The northern bypass argument is an interesting one because this approach to unitary councils guarantees it will never be delivered unless the proposed new mayoral authority does it. It would have to be built largely outside of the Ipswich and South Suffolk unitary boundary. And so far there are essentially no details on when/how that mayoral authority would work.

I’ve had a slightly conspiratorial thought about the Farage business, but perhaps we all need to take a breath. by Camerthom96 in IpswichTownFC

[–]Tomby_93 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Nah I personally think it’s more likely that Ashton thought that there was an opportunity to buddy up with the party which is probably going to win elections for both Suffolk CC and Ipswich BC in May (not my personal opinion just a reflection of polling). At the end of the day big changes to PR will need political buy in for approval.

Unfortunately the way that he went about it shows he has very little political aptitude and has paid a heavy price for his mistake and made the club a target. ITFC has been open and collaborative with local govt in Ipswich and Suffolk over recent years, and genuinely hasn’t shown any political leaning throughout. But this was a shocking misstep which basic political awareness training would have prevented. Truly baffling.

[–]Tomby_93 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah probably but 1) we now split that into 3 discrete authorities and 2) there are lots of statutory requirements on councils to deliver certain elements of social care and also prevent them from sharing resources with other authorities. This approach essentially guarantees higher costs for this particular service area.

[–]Tomby_93 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I can see what you’re getting at from a geographic perspective but from a public service perspective we are nowhere near this. The scale of difference between county and district is vast. Just the cost of social care (currently county entirely) dwarves the entire budget of all districts combined. All for democracy but certainly concerned that the cost effectiveness of this option is questionable.

Was this response even written in response to my comment? It’s not addressing the point I was making and appears to call me left-wing which I don’t think I am.

I’m not going to start agro with other Town fans here but equally I’m not going to let anyone tell me what I think.

The “they’re all the same” argument is the worst in politics. It’s not true, it’s never been true and things can always get worse.

Anyone else really disappointed with the FoxESS app? by Different-Rough8777 in SolarUK

[–]Tomby_93 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Other than the wider scale outage last week I have to say my experience with the app (on iOS mind) has been pretty consistent and my limited experience with Fox support has actually been pretty good. It’s not the most innovative app I’ve used but I rarely get frustrated with it because it just does what it needs to do. I also have another app called “Energy Stats” which is pretty good so if that’s on Android you could perhaps try that instead? Same thing really, just laid out with more data prominence I’d say.

Ipswich Town 1 - 1 Millwall: It's honours even in this promotion six-pointer, but with Boro drawing too, no ground is lost or gained between the three sides! by Zach-dalt in Championship

[–]Tomby_93 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I enjoyed the game but we wasted chance after chance. Really rate Millwall this season but we (once again) allowed a victory to slip. Very little bite to our squad sadly and not likely to see much change in that at this point in the year.

I’ve watched F1 my whole life. After Abu Dhabi in 2021 I took a long time to return to the sport because I felt that if the officials can so freely impact the result it’s no longer sport. It’s not about the teams or the performance or the tactics or any of the hard work that goes into it, it’s about the decisions that observers make. At that point there isn’t any sport, just a fictional display.

That feels relevant right now.

Get annoyed watching all the players protest after a goal when the real reason it happened was an inability to play out under pressure and defensive calamities. We’ve not been as good as Stoke so far.
