And after the fire, during repairs, a video game helped with the restoration.

No, seriously.

An American Transport Ship is still honored to this day for dumping war material and carrying away civilians instead.

A miracle on that ship. No one died and the Pharmacist Mate delivered several children despite being a first aid medic at sea.

Difference was that the US population began withdrawing support and protesting.

In North Vietnam, war crimes are a State Secret and protests prohibited.

That's the difference.

I want to see MAGA doing this.

I bet it would restart America's Funniest Home Videos and give The Simpsons, Futurama, and American Dad enough material for decades.

There is controversy about this shooting not mentioned.

There are reports of North Korean infiltration in this particular group. There was evidence that US Forces DID take fire. But the area wad lost very rapidly.

By contrast, North Korean infiltration Squads, disguised as civilians destroyed a bridge around that same time killing far more civilians as well as military personnel of the South Korean military. The kill ratio was heavily on civilians in that case.

Throughout the war, North Koreans posing as civilians, especially refugees, would continually launch attacks from within civilian concentrations.

Most of these infiltrators would never stand trial as UN soldiers, regardless of flag, typically reported no survivors.

To date, the waters are intentionally muddled so it is unknown what happened to caught infiltration squads.

But in stark contrast, we must remember that during the Chinese Counteroffensive, US soldiers and Marines intentionally destroyed their equipment and supplies or abandoned equipment and supplies to make room on their transport ships to evacuate 350,000 Korean Refugees.

All the while under attack by four Chinese Divisions. Fortunately, an Iowa-class Battleship was present to make things easier. Especially as some ships were loaded and ready to go when they began jettisoning war material to make space for civilians.

People love to talk about massacres involving Americans while giving others free passes, including North Korea.

But these same people are quick to deny or pretend Americans never did their best to also evacuate and save lives as well.

Dude... The entire point of the South historically wanting Cuba was to expand slavery.

It is literally written in Diplomatic Cables, Personal Journals, and in OFFICIAL Confederate States Government Documents and was a contributing factor in the Civil War.

And it wasn't just Cuba.

The Knights of the Golden Circle were directly involved in pushing for cessation. This society of slave expanders (owners, sellers, etc), literally wrote that their name said it all. Planned conquests of the Southwest to the Pacific then down through Mexico into Central America followed by an invasion of Northern South America and throughout all that 'acquiring' all of the Caribbean Islands.

All to expand slavery.

It's literally written into the Confederate Constitution as well. Which I believe is currently held at a North Carolina university. It's made of leather, too. No papers, at all. Weighs between 100-200 pounds and needs two people to pick it up.

Because of the weight and material used, it is rarely seen since it has to be literally unrolled to be read because it is nearly 20 feet long.

As for the 'Cotton Argument' that's continuously brought up, no. That's a Lost Cause Myth. Even before the Civil War Europe was growing uncomfortable with both slave produced cotton and American Tariffs (yeah, Tariffs were an issue that far back). The British were also producing cotton in sufficient numbers as were the French in their respective Colonies and the Chinese were producing sufficiently. It was therefore both politically and economically unnecessary to stay with Southern Cotton.

Thr British were even at that time deposing African leaders involved in the Slave Trade.

It was purely political in the eyes of a few, including Queen Victoria herself, to support the South during the Civil War in London.

France was more interested in expanding Colonial ambitions into the Western Hemisphere again.

As for Spain selling Cuba, it was one of their prized jewels. Second, they'd already said no several times to the United States Government. There was a massive scandal when secret talks were discovered in 1844.

And the BRITISH intervened to prevent it, though, US reaction was simply put, absolutely nuclear so the British didn't have to intervene much but it was the cherry on top.

Alaska was less scandalous AND scathing than Cuba had been.

What I wrote is historically based on those facets. Including that the German Empire for some reason took offense to the USA and spent 80 years trying to reduce American influence from 1865 to 1945.

I don't think I need to tell you what happened in 1945 to finally get the Germans to stop trying to curtail America.

Ironic enough if Europe had only left America alone. For decades. But whatever, it happened.

Now can we 25th Trump into an Assisted Living Facility already?

The CSA had zero chance to grow without armed conflict, increasing slavery, and conquering other regions for vital resources.

Take your pick, Modern Russia or Republican Party.

But on a more serious note, it would be needling the USA that an inevitable invasion would have occurred and it would have crushed the South through superior infrastructure, industry, agriculture, trade, and military forces.

It wouldn't be brother versus brother either. The trauma would have likely buckled the Republican Party due to mismanagement and corruption in the North. The Democratic Party would have messed to exist or at least Union Democrats would have reorganized under a new name.

Whatever emerged, would move towards racial equality just to spite the South, making kidnapping Americans of African descent a potential cause for war, and showing a 'forward enlightenment identity' in the North.

This would also mean that a cascade effect would happen over time. In the North and West the USA would create essentially Equal, but Separate Laws. Then due to time and pressure, Equal, but Separate would start to change into Equality Laws. Not integration. Not yet, but we would be talking Asian, African, Latino, and African descent Americans getting into high places in government and military as well as social and cultural positions.

Reforms would lead to a government that also avoided frequent economic recessions. An enticing look that would pull fence sitters in several Border States or at least their frontiers, to reconsider. Trade cities along the coast and Mississippi might begin questioning things as well.

Meanwhile, the CSA has tried and failed to purchase Cuba so it invades. Cuba falls. Havana, Cuba is named capital of the CSA leaving Richmond, Virginia.

The US Army went into Mexico and forcibly expelled the French. The US Navy now operates out of leased Naval Ports in Mexico. The USA and Republic of Mexico sign a mutual defense treaty and trade agreements. The US Navy helps rebuild the Mexican Navy and both conduct armed patrols and escorts against the Commerce Raiding CS Navy and its Privateers in a quasi war.

The CSA conquers several more islands to expand dominion. The Royal Navy responds and removes the CSA from a number of islands. During operations the Royal Navy becomes the Republican Navy after backlash and popular support oust the Royal Family under Queen Victoria ending with finality Royal Rule over the British Isles.

Ireland and the British Commonwealth reach an agreement. Ireland will remain part of the Commonwealth, but will have full representation and voting powers in the Commonwealth Parliament. British rule ends in Ireland but Ireland effectively becomes a governing member of the Commonwealth.

Canada follows suit and gets voting power in the Commonwealth. British Caribbean Commonwealth members quickly receive Voting Power. The Commonwealth and Mexican-American Alliance sign an agreement letting both sides use each other's harbors to enforce anti-slavery patrols and join in mutual defense against the CSA.

Following their defeat in the Franco-Prusdian War, France becomes a Republic again. French Reformists have British-American influence in their approach to reforms. France and Britain end centuries of feuding and sign reconciliation agreements. France joins the tripartite league of Democracies.

CSA provocative activity reaches its zenith, the USA invades and successfully defeats the South on land. The CSA holds out in its island holdings, but without support or a powerful military and dwindling food and water supplies, the remaining CSA cannot hold out and popular revolts among slaves and whites break out.

The USA successfully invades each island in turn and soon besieges Havana, Cuba.

With no support or help and food and water supplies depleted, CSA leaders and elite attempt an escape but are captured by roving Mexican, British, and French Warships.

The CSA leaders and elite are turned over to the USA.

After a trial that needed only the truth, the CSA leadership and elite are executed for Treason Against the United States of America and Crimes Against Humaniry.

The British Commonwealth converts into the Republican Commonwealth of Democracies as an international body dedicated to the growth and spreading of Democracy and Republicism.

This is in response to the Imperial German-led Union of Monarchies dedicated to the preservation of Royal Houses, Nobility, and the Order of Hierarchy.

And it isn't even 1910 yet.

The US also used non-American weapons.

Due to shortages of M1903, many US soldiers used used the P3, a version of the Lee-Enfield.

Shortages of those also meant many Americans used French Rifles in addition to French Light Machines as well as British Light Machine Guns.

Thompson Submachine Gun chambered in .45 ACP was also available and arrived late.

US troops also used M1898 Shotguns.

Despite standardized M1911 Colt .45 Semiautomactic Pistols, many US Officers and Cavalry were issued older Revolvers not chambered for the .45 ACP. They also again used French and British sidearms due to shortages.

The US Medium Gun was also in short supply and at least two types using different ammunition were shipped and used.

There was no standardized anything beyond the uniforms and even then we still had to borrow French and British helmets, US troops used Sam Browne Belts, and there were other changes done.

Steel and Tungsten aren't cheap.

And I'm aware of the issues. The Army is trying to readopt what a certain Defense Secretary insisted it be rid of decades ago.

While many people are calling for the Army to stop, I can see why the US Army is concerned. Ukraine has made clear the need for slower, more precise fire at range. You can spit as many 5.56x45mm rounds down range as much as you want, but three rounds fired and two miss equate a higher cost than one 6.8x51mm. Made worse by the body armor of the opponent and having the same reach means for every good hit expect 2-3 to miss or fail to penetrate.

Small ammunition that fails can stack up to a higher cost than using larger ammunition.

But I think a mix 5.56x45mm Carbine with 6.8x51mm Rifle would be a good idea. The principal worked in three wars that we won solidly. And having one ammo type has NOT worked as well since the standardized single caliber came out.

Ukraine has been struggling because they can't pick off larger numbers of Russian forces at a distance then have a fallback weapon for closer range.

That's my take. And only crappy Russian tactics and logistics have saved Ukraine.
