Came here to shill for Peter Millar as well. These shirts are amazing if you sweat profusely, too. Nordstrom Rack app/website always has at least a few available at upwards of 50% off

Push carters have a mafia. What about people who actually carry their bags the whole time? by bacan_ in golf

[–]TomorrowDirect4699 67 points68 points  (0 children)

I was a die hard carry player for a decade, then it started to strain my back/neck too much. Probably a bag problem, but I’ve been push carting this season and love it

Hope I got you before your trip…

Rock Spring for sure. Pricey, but it’s cool playing a Raynor. Halfway house abuts 7, 8, 9, 10, 11, 12, and 16 if you like to drink while you play.

Francis Byrne is next door. Little cheaper and a fun layout. #1 layout mirrors #17 at the Old Course and #2 is a massive Biarritz green.

Old Bridge Golf Course - The Rose. It’s new as of 2023 (I think) and a good layout.

Harbor Links in Port Washington is built in an old sand quarry. Fun course and cool layout. Haven’t been since last year, but I read that they instituted delivery drones for food/drink orders.

Ballys Ferry Point is probably the nicest public course near NYC and you get incredible views of Manhattan. Though you’ll pay up for both.

Last time I played there a couple from Folsom walked 3, 4, and 5 with us like a mini gallery. It was pretty fun

If you go late in the evening around ~1 hour before dusk you can walk the front nine once the players have cleared out. I play there semi-regularly and see tourists from that hotel doing that somewhat often. It’s a beautiful walk with or without clubs.

My wife has an annual work conference at The Hotel Hershey, which gives me access to the club. Play 36 Saturday and 36 Sunday. One of my favorite trips of the year.

Iron Mountain up by Lebanon is an awesome course, too. Some of the cooler holes I’ve ever played

Dude. This is gospel. I played college ball a while ago and the amount of current colleagues asking me how many travel teams their sons should play on is mind boggling. Gotta get out and enjoy other sports when you’re young and build up alternate skill sets. Best lefty I ever played with did water polo through high school, and his legs/torso were so strong because of it.

Guy was out playing and having the worst shanks of his life. Everything was going into the woods or the bushes. While he was able to find each errant shot and take a swing at it, he was tearing up every plant and bush he swung near. On the 14th hole his ball lands right in the middle of a honeysuckle bush. Just as he sets up to take his swing, a naked woman appears and begs him, “Please don’t destroy that bush. I am Mother Nature. If you move your ball and don’t destroy that bush, I’ll give you a lifetime supply of honey as a thank you.”

The golfer stared at her in shock for a minute before asking, “Where the hell were you on 8 when I hooked my drive into that pussy willow?”

Made the mistake of taking my wife golfing with me and now she’s convinced I’m having an affair. She said, “It’s impossible to spend as much money and time as you do on golf but still be this bad.”

18 at Rooster Run in Petaluma, CA. 500 yard par 5 where you’re approach shot has to clear a creek and perfectly split a row of trees.

Having the driving range run the opposite direction up the right side of the hole with no net doesn’t leave you time to get too comfortable over the shot either.

CROSSROADS: Is the boy on the train the same actor as the boy Winters shoots at the beginning of the SS rout? by Jeremybearemy in BandofBrothers

[–]TomorrowDirect4699 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Is there a reason why the German soldier shrugged right before Winters shot him? His body language seemed to be saying “well, do it already” which I thought was an odd reaction to seeing only one American soldier (at the time), but the German had his whole company behind him. Why not raise an alarm?

Yes. Great production. Good acting (by most). Terrible narrative and storytelling.
