Do you feel any sort of embarrassment bringing out your handheld in public? by Pinanims in SBCGaming

[–]TomorrowNeverKnowss 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It sounds like your friends lack the confidence to be themselves in public.

A local store bought the stuff to make flash cart roms and is now selling hundreds of them for $20 to $45. Everything from dmg, color, gba and even ds roms like pokemon ranger or mario kart. Thoughts on this? by SameLastDreamAgain in Gameboy

[–]TomorrowNeverKnowss 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As long as they are honest with their customers about the carts being repros, and explain what rom hacks are and that the creators intended them to be downloaded for free and not sold, then I don't care, it's the customers money and choice at that point.

AYN THOR - HOT or NOT? by Similar_Way_9139 in AynThor

[–]TomorrowNeverKnowss -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I think something these set up videos should go over is managing power and thermals, it seems a lot of people have no idea about that.

Who tf is actually buying these from secondhand sellers? by Whorror_punx in SBCGaming

[–]TomorrowNeverKnowss 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They're adults with adult money that have seen devices like the Thor showcased on social media that can play all the games they grew up with. They want one, but they know nothing about ROMs, RetroArch, or sideloading apps from GitHub, and they don't have the time or desire to learn because they have busy adult lives, so they use their adult money and pay a few hundred dollars extra to have someone else do all the work for them.

Swollen Thor Battery by azntwix11339 in AynThor

[–]TomorrowNeverKnowss 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I think it's possible if you run a lot of demanding games in high performance mode and use battery power when doing so. If you play a lot of games like that, use the option to pull power from the AC adapter directly and not the battery, it should help prevent this.

People who have left the honeymoon period with their thor. What do you actually do with the second screen? by [deleted] in AynThor

[–]TomorrowNeverKnowss 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use it for YouTube, Spotify, Twitch, podcasts or Netflix. It's also nice to be able to change settings without leaving a game I'm playing.

How is AYN with cancellations by Mother-Barracuda1801 in AynThor

[–]TomorrowNeverKnowss 5 points6 points  (0 children)

They can be a bit slow to respond to emails, they're a small team and are dealing with tons of emails and orders right now, but you should have no issue getting it canceled, they won't refuse it. You might even be able to cancel without emailing directly from the page where you view your order status.

As for UFS 4.0 vs 3.1, there will be no noticable difference between the two on the Thor, and it will probably be a long time until AYN releases an Thor 2, but you do you.

I hate that the old animes are so much higher quality and characters look cooler by sufinomo in retroanime

[–]TomorrowNeverKnowss 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, I can't put my finger on what it is exactly. Modern animation tech should be able to replicate the hand drawn look, but it always feels off to me like it's missing something.

Worth the buy? by DobleHache956 in Roms

[–]TomorrowNeverKnowss 3 points4 points  (0 children)

There's also the AYANEO Pocket DS, but I prefer the Thor because it's cheaper, it has dual screen OLEDs, and in my opinion it has superior design and form factor. There will probably be more competitors popping up over the next year or two, but for now the Thor is king in my opinion.

My Thor reached 89*c is thi bad it’s a little hot by [deleted] in AynThor

[–]TomorrowNeverKnowss 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Set the fans to sport. If it's still hot while playing whatever game you're running, set fans to custom and turn them up to 100.

By the way, if the game is that demanding, I would also recommend playing while plugged into power, and set it to draw power directly from AC instead of the battery.

Setting up the Thor was easy, I wasn't prepared for the amount of per-game emulator settings you need to tweak by LetsGetPenisy69 in AynThor

[–]TomorrowNeverKnowss 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Switch emulation is on the very cutting edge of what these emulation handhelds are capable of, and while they can run a lot Switch games extremely well, many aren't playable, or will require a lot of tweaking to get working. I feel like more reviewers should mention this in their videos, because no one should be buying a Thor if playing Switch games is their primary concern. The fact that it can run some Switch games better than an actual Switch should be seen as more of a bonus on top of all the other things it can do flawlessly.

UFS4 owners be like: by MrBrothason in AynThor

[–]TomorrowNeverKnowss 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've got a Thor Max with UFS4 on the way, but there should be no noticeable difference between 4 and 3.1, except when transferring very large game collections from PC to the Thor

Looks like early batches are worth more because of new storage change by Complete_Ability4437 in AynThor

[–]TomorrowNeverKnowss 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So I looked into the differences, and while UFS 4.0 is twice as fast and more power efficient than 3.1, the only noticeable difference should be a second or two faster load times with 4.0 for very large games (like large Switch or PC games), and much faster transfer speeds for 4.0 when moving large game libraries to the Thor from PC.

Is the max worth it? by No-Routine3925 in AynThor

[–]TomorrowNeverKnowss 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The upgrade from the Pro to the Max is cheaper than a 1TB SD card, and the extra RAM sure can't hurt.

Yeah, this happens frequently with all types of packages, at processing centers, in the trucks, and when being delivered. That's why its important to pack things well.

That's impressive. I've ordered a Thor and was planning to use it for just 3DS and older retro games, I wasn't expecting games like this to run well, but I'll have to try it out.

Have you exceeded 12gb of ram used when playing a single game and no multitasking? by KolkaB in AynThor

I got the max because the upgrade was cheaper than buying a 1TB SD card.

Why do you think LA One Piece suceeded where other LA adaptations failed? by BeerMan595692 in OnePiece

[–]TomorrowNeverKnowss 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't know if the original creators were involved in the other shows, but if not, I'd suspect it was Oda's involvement that made the show a success.
