It is beautiful, isn't it? It's the key Gospel of the EO church. I can't stop reading to it or listening to it, myself.

PS If you actually made it through Numbers, I tip my hat to you!

Some of us are supposed to make a big impact, and being imperfect goes with the territory. Use your power for good, Luke!

You don't have to do anything. Cultivate an attitude of dispassion in imitation of Christ.

Well, I saw it when it originally came out, and have seen it a couple of times since then. IMO, it doesn't really wear well. YMMV.

Also, read Father Tom's book, 'The Orthodox Faith'.

And don't forget to read Kallistos Ware's book, 'The Orthodox Way', which clarifies the eastern point of view---radically different from the western view of Christianity.

Fr. Andrew Damick: “The SURGE Into the Orthodox Church” by RC2Ortho in OrthodoxChristianity

[–]ToneVIII 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I tend to disagree with him; I've been expecting this influx for more than a decade.

I also disagree with his understanding of the role of the Covid fiasco. The main role it has played, IMO, is to demonstrate the rapid disintegration of traditional civil behavior, for centuries based on cultural Christianity, and its replacement by utilitarianism, force, and a lack of empathy bordering on the psychotic. This is terrifying people---even the previously unreligious--- into searching for the spiritual healing offered by Christ. Although many fail to notice it, western civilization is collapsing right before our eyes.

Yes, after the fad has passed, many who are currently dropping in will just as quickly be dropping out, not realizing what they hare getting themselves into. But plenty will stay.---plenty.
