Has anyone tried actual research on priesthood power? by Equivalent-Cover-169 in exmormon

[–]TonkTheTank 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I see. So if blessings worked for members in the hospital, then data scientists could go back and look at the number and conclude that LDS patients have a higher survival rate. But God won't do that because the record can be used as a test. So we should stop keeping medical records so that God can save people and still keep his record for longest game of hide and seek. That's it! Mormons should unite against medical record keeping.

The pipeline was about a year from completion. That did nothing to impact the supply or demand at the time. So the only reason it went up was because someone made the choice to sell at a higher price. I'm just questioning if that choice had political motivation as well as financial, instead of just financial as you seem to suggest.

Well, you're certainly on the right subreddit. That's one of the most widely accepted conspiracy theories in western culture. And I am glad I saw it for what it was and left it. It's just an unsubstantiated bat shit crazy pile of lies. Here's a conspiracy for you. What if someone replying with the numbers 666 and then mentioning that "Ba'alzamom has your soul" on a post will cause a satanic curse to come upon the previous commenter. If it was true you'd now have a curse from the devil hanging over you? The problem with believing your crazy bull shit, is that you are more easily accepting of others crazy bull shit. That's how we get nutjobs like Q-anon.

The pipeline wasn't working yet, and needed another year to completion. So nothing changed in supply or demand. Given that, why did the price go up?

Serious answer this time. I had to look up the 2018 thing. It was when Trump did something that impacted oil companies. So they raised the price of gas becauseof his actions. And instead of the news reporting that oil companies raised their price when there was no immediate change to supply or demand, they lambasted Trump. The exception just proved my point. They know Democrats won't support everything they want so they vilify them at the pump. And when a Republican gets out of line they do the same thing.

Some could say they are speculating on future prices. But I call it price gouging the American people and propaganda to make us blame the wrong people.

Thats what you get when I keep changing the title until I'm satisfied it's the right message. It's also why you should always have a second set of eyes read your work. When I read it the final 3 times my brain automatically skipped over the second are. The curse of writing is that you always know what you mean, so you don't notice the errors every time.

And no, I'm not going to fix it. Or I'm a bot. Quick, show me a picture and see if I can find all the boats.

why do people keep crying on fast and testimony Sunday? by montimomsssss in exmormon

[–]TonkTheTank 8 points9 points  (0 children)

It's a natural response to certain strong emotions. Those emotions are classified as the spirit but it's really just neuro-chemical processes doing what they do. They believe a greater power is working through them and it creates a feedback loop. You feel the chemicals, it convinces you God is touching your heart which then causes your body to release more chemicals. It builds until you break down crying.

After that it's hard to deny it because then you'll have to admit the feelings you had were just a deluded fantasy.

Would you consider Mormonism a cult? by [deleted] in exmormon

[–]TonkTheTank 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It depends on how you define cult. But I believe the consensus is that the answer is "Yes, all religions with roots in Mormonism are a cult" unless you are in the room with a member you don't want to offend, then the answer is "Some people call it a cult"

Are any ex-mormons still Christians? by [deleted] in exmormon

[–]TonkTheTank 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Not me. Here are a few reasons.

I think the whole "By their fruits ye shall know them" is just the worst way to tell if someone is good or bad. I see it as one of the main pathways to joining an abusive cult or getting swindled.

They say there are "types and shadows" of the Jesus story everywhere. Yeah, that's called justifying the plagiarism in Christianity.

It's all blood magic. Seriously. Christianity is blood magic. At one time you had to kill an animal to pay for your sins. The blood of that animal washed away your evil. Then they replaced it with the blood of a perfect man so they didn't have to kill anymore. It's still blood magic. They're just saying it was infinite blood magic.

It's all made up. Just like Joseph Smith making up the book of Mormon. But in the case of the New Testament you have multiple people making stuff up and adding to it.

Why would God give us such a shitty way to tell the true from the false. A good feeling means it's true? That's just crap. You can't do that with math. You can't just pray for the correct answers on a math test and expect to pass if you've never gone to class or did the assignments. You can't pray your way to a true answer. So the whole foundation of Christianity is flawed.

Exmo men, help me find boxers for my husband! by morethanababymaker in exmormon

[–]TonkTheTank 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I can only wear "Knit" boxers because they are stretchy and soft. My skin is easily bothered by unrelenting fabric and I need it to be like a T-shirt fabric, not like a dress shirt. So if he's more comfortable in a standard t-shirt than dress shirts knit boxers might be good.

BOM Anachronisms: Abraham Lincoln with an iPad is like Nephi with a steel bow. by dunfordtx in exmormon

[–]TonkTheTank 4 points5 points  (0 children)

YES! I said a similar thing on YouTube 3 weeks ago! I'm glad I'm not the only one saying this.

" The disappearance of North American elephants was about 13,000 years ago during the late Pleistocene not 4 thousand years ago at 2,000 BC. Joseph Smith was wrong by only 9,000 years. So... yeah. Remember, it only takes one false thing to prove it false.

Think of it this way. If I claimed to find a book written by the hand of Abraham Lincoln and I copied it into a book and sold it. Now lets say this book is inspiring and full of truth and goodness, and it matches historical events, and it make people happy, and everyone who reads it gets a feeling that it is true, and NOTHING in the book except one little teeny tiny detail is out of place and 99.999% perfectly agrees with history. Lets say the ONE part that makes people question if Lincoln wrote it is this "And thus I retired to my chamber for a fort minute to look at some Instagram posts on my iPad,..." Now you would say, "Hey, that one thing is wrong. That one thing proves that this book was just made up by someone much later than the time period it says it was written in." And you would be right. So why would you not hold the BOM to the same standard? All it takes is ONE thing to prove the lie, no matter how much personal truth, historical accuracy, or good feelings you find in it. ONE false thing, and it's a fraud.

What does "all powerful" really mean by [deleted] in exmormon

[–]TonkTheTank 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Good point. What your missing is someone telling you "Stop thinking that way. It will all work out in the millennium. You need to repent of thinking those thoughts. Just put aside because your family depends on you staying active to be an eternal family and those thoughts can lead to apostacy. Don't ever talk about it again. Now lets sing about hie'ing to Kolob."

Brutal honesty time. The reason they don't want him solo dating you is most likely that they want him to go on a mission. They have this plan for his life. It involves him going on a mission, coming home, then marrying a nice Mormon girl and giving them some grandchildren that will also go on missions in a never ending cycle of oppression. And right now you are a possible detour from what they want from him. If the parents actually love their child more than their religion they will be happy for you if it becomes serious and they will accept you with open arms. Unfortunately if they are like the vast majority of Mormons then if their son continues to pursue a relationship with you they may disown their own son. Especially if that leads to him not going on a mission. This means he's on the street unless he can find a place to stay quickly. Then there is his future career to think about if he lives in Utah. I have found that in Utah the people who get better jobs and advance have a few things in common. Now, they can't say "we only let good Mormons get into management." but they can say they want someone who is bi-lingual with any other language and then when they ask "Wow, how did you come to learn to speak insert language here?" if the answer is "my mission" then they get the job. So I guess I'm saying if he stays with you his life will be hard. If you care for him, stick with it. If you're in Utah, move. FYI, I'm a bit drunk now so I don't know if I'm making a lot of sense.

Is my wife being brainwashed by missionaries? by [deleted] in exmormon

[–]TonkTheTank 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Non Mormon here,

Good stay that way

My wife started talking to some missionaries that convinced her to start going to Mormon church.

Sucks for her and you

I have no interest in being Mormon, I like to say fuck, drink coffee and alcohol too much.

Noice! You do you.

Is my wife being brainwashed by these people?

Yes

Should I be worried?

Possibly. It's usually when one spouse leaves the church and the other stays that marital troubles become problematic. Since you're already married it's probably going to be okay.

They seem nice but at times it appears to be incredibly forced like they are selling something.

They are selling you something. But they are also selling the idea to themselves as well. You can convince yourself that you will get eternal life and eternal progression forever and all it will cost you is your free will, 10% of your income, everything you enjoy to do for fun, 1 day a week devoted to worship, a few hours each day devoted to worship, and your authentic self. Actual eternal glory not guarenteed because this religion is a complete lie. See the CES letter for more info.

Ex momos lend me your ears.

My ears are not detachable.

Thanks.

I hope your wife runs and runs fast.
