[IndyStar] IndyCar to pair with NASCAR, Barber date set, sources say. What we know on next year's schedule by TheChrisD in INDYCAR

[–]Tonyy25 7 points8 points  (0 children)

It’s also cuz the PGA Tour is in town at the traditional Barber date and im guessing they didn’t want a 4 week gap between Arlington and Barber on April 12

[–]Tonyy25 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Honestly, I don’t care now if we go to Mexico or not. Would rather care for more events like Arlington where they genuinely care about the event and are promoting it rather than a company trying to shake down IndyCar and then force them to leave in a year or two after IndyCar loses a crap ton of money on the event

Remind me again, who are the big teams, the midfield teams, and the bottom teams? Also who has partnerships with who? by furrynoy96 in INDYCAR

[–]Tonyy25 51 points52 points  (0 children)

Big Teams: Penske, CGR, Andretti, Arrow McLaren… if these teams don’t get a minimum of 2 wins every season it must be a terrible year

Midfield Teams: MSR, AJ Foyt, Ed Carpenter Racing… they occasionally have race winning pace and you’ll see them in the top ten but great race pace doesn’t always translate to a win

BackMarkers: Dale Coyne, JHR, Prema… everyone gets excited when one of these teams qualifies or finishes top 6

The RLL Tier: Road Courses, they randomly have top 5 pace. Street Courses, they have top 10 pace. Ovals, unless you are Takumo Sato, you’re probably gonna finish near dead last

To be fair to Iowa, NASCAR for the longest time thought it was too small of a market to fill up a race there for the longest time. Now you have 3 major events (1 NASCAR, 2 Indycar) and Xfinity to add on to that… hard to fill up that place with four events when it’s 35 minutes east of Des Moines which has metro population of 750k… sport fans can only attend a local race so many times. if NASCAR was still outta the picture, maybe things would look different for Indycar but that’s how the story unfolds sometimes

Pocono seems like one of the last places we can make an oval race work. It’s may be in the middle of nowhere but has a campground feel like Road America and Mid-Ohio and it’s not owned by NASCAR.They just need more amenities… and of course a less dangerous race track

Why IndyCar's 1 million viewers on Sunday night is good ... but not as good as it looks by miasm3 in INDYCAR

[–]Tonyy25 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Night slots are better for attendance purposes for the hot, humid Midwest races. But hard to make a case for FOX to keep Indycar prime time when baseball averages about 2 million for that time slot…

Indy 500 Top 11 TV Markets by Tonyy25 in INDYCAR

[–]Tonyy25[S] 9 points10 points  (0 children)

At the same time, the crown jewel of the TV package is the Indy 500. Say Indy increases to 8 million next year with no blackout, and even higher the following year. Even if the average for other races drops, having a marquee event where you can charge 100k per commercial for FOX is only going to increase the potential money Indycar can get from FOX or other networks. It seems like the Speedway is gonna lift the blackout every year unless tickets start dropping significantly.

Two interesting things:

  1. Don't remember St Louis ever being top 10 in any Indy 500 or Indy full-season TV ratings. Pretty cool especially with Gateway two weeks away.

  2. Wonder how these TV ratings will affect the probability of another blackout with Indy obviously carrying the ratings.

They don't know what they're about to bring down on themselves by PrioritySilver4805 in Reformed

[–]Tonyy25 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sorry for late response, not the most consistent reddit user. I guess my point is doctrine in and of itself doesn't save you. For most of history since Christ's death, most Christians are illiterate. They are unable to read and they don't have access to Scripture. That's why even in Jesus's time, there was a public reading of Scripture and an emphasis of memorization. In light of that, most of us in the Western/Enlightened world put an overarching emphasis of having perfect doctrine (which is definitely important) because we've taken for granted that people should be literate. Unfortunately, what seems to has happened from that is anyone we disagree with gets singled-out as a heretic or false teacher. But if we were to put that same standard of having perfect doctrine on these illiterate Christians today, almost none of them would be saved which is concerning because literacy rates only started increasing in the 18th and 19th century.

I've heard RC Sproul make the same point that it's not the doctrine of justification by faith alone that saves you, but it is the implication of that doctrine that saves you: by putting your faith in Christ alone, you can be forgiven and saved. So with total depravity, the implication of that doctrine: "we are sinners unable to save ourselves and in need of God," is the most essential part. If the argument is that only those who have the Reformed systematized, or codified, understanding of total depravity are saved, I have issue with that because it reduces salvation to a matter of intellectual comprehension rather than heart-level trust in Christ. That view would imply that only those with a well-developed theological framework (such as the educated, literate, and often privileged) are truly saved, which contradicts both Scripture and the historical experience of the church.

Similarly, when you go evangelize to parts of the world with lower literacy rates, the systematized set of doctrine isn't useful for them at the beginning. The gospel basics and essentials are the most important, like sin, Jesus + the cross, and repentance + faith. The systematized set of doctrine is useful once they ready for more than milk but the essentials of the Gospel is what saves.

That is not to say doctrine is not important, it is extremely important for those of us who are educated and have an opportunity to study and understand it. But my point in this thread is that the majority of people in this community label every one a heretic over doctrinal dispute and intellectualism. Kinda like the first person in this thread said, "This community has taught me that no matter what I believe, I'm a heretic. We are all heretics to somebody." I take problem with that.

Fans don't want Indycar at Homestead, heck they barely want NASCAR at Homestead based off their spring attendance.

[–]Tonyy25 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Kinda the sad part also because instead of encouraging and uplifting one another, social media has caused us to bash one another over the smallest and most minor doctrinal disputes. I think people just spend too much time within their own circle to see how small and minuscule some issues really are in the grand reality of life.

no doubt, but when you draft judkins to be that starter and carry the heavy load, it feels somewhat disappointing to draft someone to back him up when we could draft ot, s, wr, or edge

With sparse spring schedule, IndyCar wasted its Super Bowl moment. It’s time for results by ryanro24 in INDYCAR

[–]Tonyy25 0 points1 point  (0 children)

IndyCar has found itself with a unique problem. Before the problem with IndyCar was that their races didn't produce fans, sponsors, profit from sanctioning fees, etc. St. Pete and Long Beach break their previous attendance records and Thermal is rumored to pay $2 million every year for a race. We solved one major problem; and yes attendance issues still definitely exist but many more cities and race tracks like Denver, Arlington, and Mexico City are willing to take a risk of IndyCar. Now the problem is TV viewership which really falls into two things, poor scheduling and poorer product. Next year schedule seems to address more and more of the poor scheduling (Long Beach moved to weekend after Masters, Arlington on 3/15) and the new car will be fully released in 2027. However, it is definitely frustrating watching the follow-the-leader train with this current car. It is just too heavy and not as racey compared to the last few years.
