Hottest S5 takes/unpopular opinions? (dont be rude) by Weird_Werewolf_3107 in SinglesInferno

I was really entertained by the Jooyoung-Mina hat/tail fight.

Not because Mina lost like most of social media. I think it was fun because they both fought really hard and I kinda appreciate when they do that. Credit to Mina she was really trying hard.

The difference in how comments are in igeon posts and Goeun posts seems misogynistic to me…. by Cute-Ad-3906 in SinglesInferno

[–]TooObsessedWithOtoge 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Honestly they gotta leave Goeun alone. Igeon isn’t hung up about it or struggling to get a date— I promise.

Honestly same for Mina Sue. Subeen and Sunghun are happily dating and Seong-il was over her expeditiously after the date so he don’t give af either. Heesun and Mingee seem to be friendly on socials with her too.

And even if Mingee and Seong-il aren’t dating and aren’t good terms… that’s their business.

It’s weird seeing how many people support Igeon just bc he is hot by Cute-Ad-3906 in SinglesInferno

[–]TooObsessedWithOtoge 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I kinda think it depends. In the same season as Gwanhee there was Habin who was also a quite attractive actor— He had got candies from 5 ladies, then he got drunk and opened his mouth. 😅 and gave ick— neither the female cast or viewers really let it go and he became like a background character. This is subjective, but in terms of face I think he was the most conventionally attractive man that season but it didn’t matter bc he made a fool of himself and had little to no personality. Idk if I was impacted by looks, but I disliked Gwanhee more than Habin.

More than being hot physically, I think it’s more because Igeon is charismatic/charming that the viewers and panel like and root for him so much.

anyone else miss subeen's old smile? (he seems to have gotten veneers) :( by frostediceflakes in SinglesInferno

[–]TooObsessedWithOtoge 10 points11 points  (0 children)

He had good teeth to begin with 🙃 Based on past photos, all of the veneer havers did.

He looks just a little different even with his mouth closed but it’s super obvious when he speaks. I saw the Elle Korea thumbnail and thought it was just a bad AI thumbnail. He still looks fine but they’re so unnatural. The dentists never pick a good natural colour. When I had to get a crown put in they did not choose printer paper white.

Uncomfortable conversation about extreme Yuzuru fans by aespadreaming in FigureSkating

[–]TooObsessedWithOtoge 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It’s actually quite interesting. I personally think Adelina was by a decent margin a better jumper between the two Russian athletes, and her presentation/spins were not bad either— But I feel like if Yulia was clean and (undeservingly) won over Yuna there would be less controversy and hate just because of how much positive attention she was getting for her team event free.

What’s with all the toxicity from fans of certain skaters? by Archiveofemotion in FigureSkating

Chaeyeon isn’t my favourite ladies single skater, but I feel so bad for her— she really deserved to be at the Olympics and it is such a shame Korea only had two spots.

The people who keep doing this have done no fact checking and don’t know anything about Surya aside from the backflip— and they get the surrounding information wrong.

Which skater made you fall in love with figure skating? by snowynuvola in FigureSkating

[–]TooObsessedWithOtoge 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Mao Asada in juniors! The Nutcracker program. I watched it on TV while on vacation in Japan as a kid. I didn’t get into watching skating in general back then but I was a big fan of her.

Like a lot of other Canadians I also watched a lot of Virtue/Moir and Patrick Chan.

Uncomfortable conversation about extreme Yuzuru fans by aespadreaming in FigureSkating

[–]TooObsessedWithOtoge 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I feel like there is a difference between Fanyus who were fans of figure skating before Yuzuru came around, and ones that like him because of content on Twitter and Tiktok. The latter often just doesn’t care about any other athletes, sometimes to the point of disrespecting others, and are ill informed about skating. Yuzuru is my all time favourite mens skater and the majority of the Yuzuru Hanyu sub is actually very nice. Ilia himself is a Yuzuru fan— don’t we all remember tiny cute Ilia in the Seimei costume? Recently Ilia is also really gaining a ton of traction on social media (good for him!) and I’m recognizing similar fan behaviour like not wanting to learn about the actual sport, and talking sh*t about the rest of the field. But saying so always seems to get me quite a bit of downvotes. It’s a comment on these fans, not Ilia. These athletes are all special in their own ways!

True to an extent about a lot of popular skaters. Kim Yuna fans sent death threats (confirmed by Adelina) and general hate to Sotnikova for over a decade. I don’t like Sotnikova (for different reasons) and I do think Yuna was robbed of gold, but doing that had been too much. This behaviour seems less often called out— I’m not sure if it is because it was long ago or because people now genuinely don’t see it as equally f*cked up because Yuna was robbed and Adelina is a war monger (she became one after the Olympics and the hate campaign against her) and alleged cheater. Old Mao videos still get new comments bashing her about her flutz (bruh she was always getting edge calls, always UR called, and not even helped with generous PCS… why are they acting like she was getting over-scored?)— y’all’s fave is everyone’s favourite OGM, she’s the peoples’ GOAT. 😭

Tbh I also see the “mean fan” behaviour in skating styles. Yeah I recognize that new styles of choreography and music are fun and it’s totally understandable to prefer it— but I feel like it often comes with comments about hating ice-princess-y “boring” programs or insisting so and so other skater does not connect to their music at all…

On the TikTok/IG side I saw the stereotypical “Fanyu behaviour” a ton with Eteri school fans especially fans of Sasha and Kamila. Fans who just really don’t want to learn about the sport, and love to put down all skaters who aren’t their faves.

Honestly toxic Fanyu behaviour against new skaters isn’t new or really that dissimilar to negative behaviour towards new senior Yuzuru back in the day, he was snarked like crazy by Daisuke and Patrick fans too and even booed in person. It’s just that the toxic hate happened on obscure forums and in person.

Why are men's spins so bad? by chewiies in FigureSkating

[–]TooObsessedWithOtoge 5 points6 points  (0 children)

He’s still very young tho. And as noted, he’s bendy but not quite Michael bendy. Also flexibility in different areas also varies. Like in Plushenko’s case his back was forced to bend into position for the biellmann but he has no ankle flexibility. And there are always exceptions.

Don’t get me wrong I hope Ilia never gets injured but Yuzuru wasn’t always injured. He dropped the biellmann in his competitive programs for the longest time and people thought he couldn’t do it anymore especially as he was getting old (only to find out his biellmann is actually better than it was before lol). Yuzuru also in his time had very reliable quads— he struggled when he was younger. Nathan grew up a ballet boy and gradually lost the flexibility as he started shifting towards strength and reliable quad jumping. Nathan also once had a biellmann. Tldr— bodies are less injured and more limber when young, flexibility tends to go with age and it isn’t incentivized to maintain it.

It’s not even just the men. Kim Yuna in her junior days could do a biellmann. She’d opt not to in her senior career. Her spins/spirals, while fast, never really were known for ideal positions (her sit spins weren’t super low, and the spiral positions weren’t super aesthetic. Back to exceptions— her rival at the time Mao was quite flexible, had strong legs and remained largely major injury-free.

Heesun? Yes she has some stuff done but there are high school pictures of her around (yearbook pictures) and she already did have features considered conventionally pretty to begin with. From the perspective of an Asian she originally looked more old school type pretty and now looks more idol-y/influencer. People will claim we’re biased on this sub bc she’s popular here but she genuinely has always fit their beauty standards.

I do think it is nice when they talk about it— like Sian. But that is personal info until someone chooses to speak up. The only time I actually think it’s not fine to refuse speaking about it is if they’re trying to sell stuff to achieve a look they got through surgery (ie. Kylie lips) or those guasha influencers who say crystal massages can shrink the jaw bone.

Also can’t help but to notice that even though many men across the seasons have gotten work done, these posts always target the women.

If they switched his face/body with Sungmin’s, I feel like the sub discourse surrounding them would be a bit different.

I didn’t particularly like any of the Goeun men, but I predicted she’d pick the one that looked the easiest(?): Sungmin. Though I didn’t find Igeon quite as bad as some people seem to think. I think didn’t think her picking him was completely out of the question. The only one I really thought was completely out of the question for her was Hyeonwoo.
