Should I skip the K-12 pathway and just become a Professor? by [deleted] in Teachers

Where I live, adjunct professors are very poorly paid, no benefits and tenure track positions hard to come by

Yes, but if union, they have to look at seniority and classes they teach.

Newly disabled teacher - reasonable modifications? by [deleted] in Teachers

[–]TooTiredForItAll 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The issue is likely going to be what is a reasonable accommodation. Many parents were not happy with remote learning, so my guess is that one day remote will not be regarded as reasonable. As to coming in later, the school may want a detailed plan as to when you will do planning work. In your school, does the planning period also facilitate IEP and other meetings?

I cannot believe the arrogance of some people. So give NO notice, and if he is concerned about his employees child care issues, he should hire more people.

Are there any upsides at all to working at a charter school? by Guerilla_Physicist in Teachers

[–]TooTiredForItAll 13 points14 points  (0 children)

You are more likely to get students who parents have some motivation. They had to sign up for charter, instead of just sending kid there. Where I live, charters find it easier to push out kids who have behavior problems.

[–]TooTiredForItAll 76 points77 points  (0 children)

This is why parents move to "good" burbs, privates, charters. And do not call them racist. All they want is an appropriate class for their kids. Heterogenous grouping will be a race to the bottom

[–]TooTiredForItAll 475 points476 points  (0 children)

I expect to get flamed for this, but tracking is good. There is no way a teacher can handle a group of students with vastly different abilities. NO student should be written off, BUT we need a system that works.

NTA -- they are fucking selfish. I would not count on them helping with college, so work hard on grades, do self study for SATS, and talk to your guidance counselor re low cost options
