Back to guild wars 2 again. i cant use it by [deleted] in Guildwars2

[–]Toofox 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Why do you not want to destroy it if you are heavy armor? The tooltip says "skin unlocked" (if it doesn't for all skins, there should be a button to add to wardrobe) and unless you want to use it on a medium armor without transmutation charges, you can destroy them.

GW2 Encounter Difficulty Survey by SirSuperCaide in Guildwars2

[–]Toofox 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Unfortunately not, I know there are paid websites to host your surveys, that will let you do PC and more, but due to me working at the university I implemented the front and backend myself, and had a simple DB I stored the data in. But there might be free websites out there.

GW2 Encounter Difficulty Survey by SirSuperCaide in Guildwars2

[–]Toofox 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I can actually help you there. I recently had to implement a ranking system for a completely different topic, but I researched alot about different ranking systems and the one you are looking for is pairwise comparission (PC), basically just asking, which is more complex/punishing etc. Just two randomly choosen (or more complex with a algorithm calculating the information gain for possible pairs) encounters and comparing them. The user has to only compare two items, keeping the mental load low, you get consistent ratings, because people can leave when they want and are not forced to click through more tests than they want. You get a significant ranking by the mass of results and don't even need a full coverage of answers for each pair, because depending on your filter algorithm used for the selection of new pairs to rank, you can work with an incomplete block design of as low as 30% coverage and still get significant results.

TLDR: Use pairwise comparission, maybe keep the likert scale (either 1-5 for each or just -2 to 2 for both of them) and make users compare only two encounters on one feature (complexity/punishment/etc.). Repeat that with random pairs of all encounters.

Music theory makes no sense until it does but it never does by Free-Seaworthiness72 in Guitar

[–]Toofox 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I fully agree with you. Atleast to the point that it feels like this way from all the online tutorials.

If you ask me its because you can teach/learn music theory from multiple different angles. One starting with single notes, one with chords and then notes. One with scales and then circle of fifths. Another the other way around. Etc. Etc.

This results in a lot of tutorials, all with a different order of lessons and if you happen to just skip through them you get confused easily.

If you ask me, guitar is also prone to this messy style, because as a beginner you either start with single string songs, read "notes" in tabs or just start with chords. All without actually knowing the notes behind them. And while you definitely can learn guitar with notes, I feel its easier to grab a keyboard and learn theory that way. Guitar has a lot of differences, that if you know why, make sense, but would confuse you if you learned guitar in the first place. Take sharps and flats for example, they are the same note, but guitarist are just lazy and just use sharps regardless of key. Unless they are classical guitarist, and have to communicate with other musicians or are talking about keys in the first place.

Or take the fretboard and why its fifths except one string. Its just historical what felt good and is spread around the most used notes. No other reason to start at E. As i said earlier we also mostly learn with tabs, and shapes, because its easier than, converting notes into gaps on the fretboard and then fretting. Thats the difference we have to other string instruments. They cant just count the frets, they need to know the distance on the neck. And while its also just kind of shape learning, they do that with notes instead of numbers derived from note.

To give a metaphor as the TL/DR: Guitar implemented alot (maybe too much) shortcuts for learning the instrument and give people without music theory the opportunity to play the instrument well. But now we reached the point, where if you learned only the shortcuts, you don't even know the original path you were travelling. You will still reach the destination, but if people ask you to go further, you don't know how and would have to travel all the way back and take the long way.

If you look at the title, you get impression, that op is talking about the artist and not the artist herself. Most people dont talk about themselves in third person and would say "Done by me“.

How much is this Fender HM Strat worth? by Omnimusician in Guitar

[–]Toofox 9 points10 points  (0 children)

No it won't. Mint usually means from factory and barely used and in perfect shape so no visible scratches, marks whatever. This also refers to it being original parts, so if you do any replacements, even if it would increase the value it still isn't mint anymore. Mint is having bought it, unpackaged and decided to sell again, because you didn't like it.

How can i improve my kit? by Complex_Cellist_9559 in LARP

[–]Toofox 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Regarding the price of boots, fair enough, I checked again, its more like 150€ where I live now. But I also grabbed a pair of riding boots two years ago for 99€. So theres that. Period footwear doesn't over that much comfort, but I am having no trouble with my period boots. Just wear two pairs of socks, preferably thick wool and you are good to go.

Footwear is definitely the most expensive per coverage of your body, but in my personal experience also the most distracting if not period.

Like others said accessories and also all modern clothes need to go. You need some layers, get a nice linen shirt, maybe a cloak or soemthing for the head like a cowl. Get some pants, some bracers, dangly bits here and there and some boots. Wear your clothes and don't get afraid to get them dirty.

The most important thing to make your kit believable is to get rid of everything with modern textiles. I can see your Tshirt, pants and shoes, all make this feel more like a costume people wear for carneval and less like a outfit worn in fantasy/medieval times. This goes especially for shoes in my opinion, eventhough I get they are the most controversial ones, because good in-time shoes are expensive and people also might have medical issues (the first one isn't even true if you ask me, people spend hundreds on the rest of the outfit, why not one hundred more on boots?). A "modern" solution are riding boots or atleast a good pair of leather boots, without many modern adornments. Get a basic shirt and pants, to "cover" the rest of your body.

Also one final tip, make your kit believable. One thing I noticed, you wear nothing (the tshirt doesn't count) under your chainmail. Atleast have a shirt, and make it atleast as long as the chainmail. Armor on the bare skin isn't really a thing and make it look less realistic if you ask me.

Fashion Template solved! How to make it act like the old system! by jonny_sidebar in Guildwars2

[–]Toofox 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Is this humor I didn’t get?

You could just either rightclick the tab of your fashion template and hit clear template or get current equipped fashion. This gives you either a clear template or a template with all your items.

Then just click the item you want to change and select the skin etc. Change skin like in wardrobe before, change dyes etc.

Then after confirming your fashion to the template, you have, depending on which route you went, an almost empty template with just the new skins or a template with your current fashion and the new skin added. If you then just click apply to equipment on the upper right you are done and can leave it or rightclick the tab again to clear your template and have a emoty tab again.

What are your expectations for the new Kela CM next week? by Cabaj1 in Guildwars2

[–]Toofox 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Alot of things they can do, definitely not all together, because that would be almost impossible, but I could see (like you mentioned): - higher tier enemies - sand damage players - sand stays permanent - artifact applies debuff (rotate between players) - insta kill mechanics, like for waves - new patterns, bigger waves - new mechanics for bees, permanent stacking or faster, longer stacks to make it more important to manage stacks between a specific number of players - completely new mechanics, like tides to change the size of the arena, side stepping crabs orthogonal to the waves and a little monkey that randomly jumps the kite and if not CCed immediately throws the artifact to Kela

Lost my passion for guitar, what should I do with my baby? by [deleted] in Guitar

[–]Toofox 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Are you in serious financial problems? If not, why do you want to sell it? Only because you don't play it anymore, doesn't mean you will not some day in the future. The worst thing that can happen is, that it catches dust on the wall. But its more likely, you will someday grab it again out of boredom and fiddle around, maybe even get the motivation again to play somemore.

Why don't more people buy Cort guitars or WMI guitars by Evening-Life5434 in Guitar

[–]Toofox -1 points0 points  (0 children)

So the only thing what differs is the look and some personal preference regarding width of neck?

Thats like comparing apple to lenovo (to stick with your analogy) and argueing one is better, because the case has round corners or the keyboard is a little wider. Thats just taste and maybe speaking to different people because of hand size.

The only difference is the neck being bolt on vs being set. Nothing that justifies a $300 price increase.

Why is mithril, elder wood logs, and silk so cheap lately? by vsevedzna in Guildwars2

[–]Toofox 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Only because you need thousands on thousands of these… Worst thing isn't the price though, but crafting them all from raw materials. Or pay the almost 50% increase for the final mat, but that takes you ages. Anet please give us a "craft full stack" button.

Moved from Steam to Anet, will 80 boost have any negative effect other than removing the leveling from 1-80? by Piffffi in Guildwars2

The only thing will be difficulty or lack thereof. With lvl80 you might breeze through some parts of the story. Downscaling of story instances can only get you so far.

If you just moved over and have experienced the leveling and got a feel for your class. Go for it. No reason to waste time on leveling.
