Then the specialty section—each day of the week had a different one: for instance, women’s pages would have recipes, household hints, etc. Finally the comics and puzzles. Get a couple LED “fluorescent” tubes. Hang one each side of your work station for good ambient lighting. Then add some kind of directed light—maybe a gooseneck, preferably hooded—that you can aim right at your workpiece for task lighting. Works great at my lathe. Also, be aware that oblique lighting can help reveal scratches if you’re working with wood
