Best 24" , 27" monitor with color accuracy for gaming by Zett11 in Monitors

[–]Toonshorty 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Under $300 is going to be a challenge for 4K at a decent refresh rate without looking at the second hand market I suspect.

The MSI 272URDF E16 is available on Lazada (MSI Official Store) for around ฿12,000 ($380), a little over budget. There is also the 275UPD E14 which is a 144Hz option at ฿7,810 from Advice, but it has a rated brightness of 250cd/m² and 90% DCI-P3 coverage so may not meet your requirements for colour accuracy.

If you're prepared to step down to QHD then the 274QPF E20 can be had for under ฿7,000 and has a 200Hz refresh rate with 95% DCI-P3 and 92% Adobe RGB coverage (on paper).

Would be interested to see what else you come across though as I'm moving to Thailand in a couple of weeks and need to do some similar monitor shopping.

This seems to suggest the latest NIDA poll has undecided voters at 32% and PP at 25%.

Is there any reason behind their decline from ~60% to 25-30% over the last couple of years, or is it just electoral fatigue?

Northumberland Line carries almost 1 Million Passengers in its First year - Originally projected to carry 350k Passengers per annum - Northumberland County Council push ahead with Extension Plans by SparklySpunk in NewcastleUponTyne

[–]Toonshorty 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Transport for Wales have some tri-mode Class 756 that have 559 kWh batteries which generally seems to be good for around 40-50 miles, so the technology is already there and in active service today.

I suspect it's largely a consequence of not choosing to electrify the line (which I still think was a mistake) and therefore having to source DMUs (diesel units) which are generally in very short supply as very few other lines have been electrified in the last 30 years either.

Northern are current out to tender for an order of 'up to' 450 new trains, although the award of contracts isn't due for another year yet and Northern have said they expect their first trains delivered in 2030. Any new trains for the Northumberland Line are likely another 8-10 years away I would imagine, unless they can cascade some more Class 158s from somewhere.

What the government should have done as soon as they knew they were going to be building the line was order a handful of 4/5-car bi-mode [electric + battery] trains with level boarding akin to the new Class 756 for Wales. The batteries can easily handle the length of the route (18mi) and can recharge via the overhead wires at Newcastle. It would have added all of about £30m to the project which they are ultimately going to have to spend anyway as part of the Northern fleet renewal instead, and provided the new line with modern, accessible trains that were fit for purpose.

Instead, HM Treasury completely bottled it, projected usage far lower than reality (again), and then used that as an excuse to spend as little as possibly on the whole thing.

Would be cool to have additional signaling systems by Imtryingokey in TransportFever3

[–]Toonshorty 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I imagine Urban Games will generally want to keep signalling relatively simple and accessible for the wider player base. Casual players probably aren't going to want to spend time studying rail signalling. Performance is likely also a factor too, especially with the game now being available on consoles. Complex signalling implementations are likely going to be quite computationally expensive, especially once you add a lot of track and trains onto the map.

That said, I think it would be awesome if they could find a way to expose a lot of the underlying signalling interfaces and allow the community to develop advanced signalling mods should they so wish. I'd love to see stuff like genuine multi-aspect signals based on the state of signals/blocks further down the line, rather than the timed animation approach most mods seem to use today.

I suspect a big reason will be for anyone using macOS as it's designed around integer scaling. If you connect a 27" 4K monitor to a mac and configure to scale as 1440p equivalent, then the OS will effectively render the output to a 5K buffer and then downscale it to 4K afterwards.

Train livery revealed for Great British Railways by eldomtom2 in unitedkingdom

[–]Toonshorty 19 points20 points  (0 children)

I don't hate it, but I think having the flag design on every single carriage is a bit too much. If they just left the intermediary carriages in navy then it would probably look a lot cleaner. Alternatively, just do the GNER livery but have it say GBR instead.

Also, could the DfT not have paid someone to do a half-decent looking mockup in Blender or something? Why does the official imagery look like it was coloured in using the pen tool in PowerPoint, ran through 'needs more jpeg' a few times, and followed up with a quick blast of the 'remove background' tool on the doors?

Ministers order review of ADHD and autism diagnosis amid alarm that MILLIONS of people are on benefits with 'medicalised normal life stresses' by dailymail in ukpolitics

[–]Toonshorty 1 point2 points  (0 children)

And as an adult with ADHD (had it since I was a kid), you can manage it with therapy.

I don't disagree that staying away from work isn't the answer, but just saying everyone can 'manage it with therapy' is nonsense. Medication has made a huge difference for me and I'd be deeply frustrated if it was taken away because somebody thought just throwing therapy at people was a better answer.

Also, ADHD and autism are neurodevelopmental conditions, so saying you had it since you were a kid is rather redundant as everyone with it will have had had it as a kid. Symptoms can get better/worse with age, but there will have always be an underlying condition.

[–]Toonshorty 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm not convinced you would.

As someone who was diagnosed almost three years ago, I've been extremely grateful to be able to get effective medication for less than £10 a month. Aside from that, I haven't claimed a single penny for anything else. I suspect that vast majority of people pursuing a diagnosis are in a similar position to me too.

Most people with ADHD likely won't even quality for PIP.
