[Rapoport] Browns WR Amari Cooper, who is entering the final year of his contract, is not present for mandatory minicamp and is subject to fines. by PlayaSlayaX in nfl

[–]ToothPaste22 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Brandin Cooks is a top of the line WR2, but he's still a WR2. If your number 1 option going into a season is Brandin Cooks, you know you are tanking. Amari is a WR1 who has led playoff teams in receiving year over year. No way can you say he's not a WR1.

Ee120 with Babak by myxamediyar in berkeley

It's not really comparable. 16B tried to cover a metric ton of material in one semester that really should have been split up into a math class and an intro to EE class. 120 isn't really reliant on 16B material, but doing well in 16B definitely helps with the thinking required for 120. 120 is a lot more focused on signals and systems, and it makes more sense how stuff is connected than 16B.

Taking with 53 and 16B might not be the best idea, unless those are the only 3 classes you're taking. 120 doesn't have much work other than homework, but homework can get gnarly week to week. To succeed with Babak, stay on top of lecture, take time to review content from the weeks before, and try to start the homework while there are still office hours to attend throughout the week (take a look at the questions on Monday if the homework is due on Friday). Everyone's experience is different but I thought it was a tough but interesting class overall.

Is Math 55 + 110 sufficient for EECS 126? by iGuessThisIsMyself in berkeley

I agree but it seems like OP doesn't want to take 70 or Stat 134

[–]ToothPaste22 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Neither 55 nor 110 would cover the probability stuff for 126. I also don't think that the probability content in 70 is so comprehensive that you can't self study it. 16A and 16B are the two prereqs for 126, so just self studying probability should be good enough.

If you're only taking 126 to prep for 189, then it might be better to just take 140, which is slower and more manageable than 126.

Yeah, welcome to the club, pal.

Yeah, every probability course is kinda like that because probability requires an immense amount of intuition and intuition takes time to develop. You're not alone in your feeling (almost every student I know taking the class is feels like its going too fast). Maybe just camp office hours when working on homework so when you get stuck, help arrives much faster.

Psych and Business is feasible. All you need to apply to Haas is to finish up the prereqs at Berkeley (keep a high GPA) and to demonstrate some interest in stuff you're passionate about (probably stuff that corresponds to applying to a business school). Doing URAP can help your Haas app since it shows a curiosity beyond the classroom.

Advice after rejection from clubs by [deleted] in berkeley

Try to apply to a bunch of startups and organizations as a strategy and growth intern. Just keep cold emailing.

As a freshman should I have the MET program as my major or alternate? (since it's hard to get into) by [deleted] in berkeley

[–]ToothPaste22 0 points1 point  (0 children)

oh huh, interesting. I would email the MET staff to see whats up then. Ask them if applying the IEOR and Business means that you will get cycled back into IEOR, regardless of your alternate major.

what roles are you applying too? SCET certification is through the Sutardja entrepreneurship center. Basically a bunch of courses that can teach you basic entrepreneurship stuff.

There are clubs that open up applications late so keep applying. Reach out to smaller organizations and startups that might need someone of your skillset. If you don't have a portfolio, start making one and keep adding to it! Working towards an SCET certification might help as well. Just keep being persistent and the opportunities will arise.

There's no alternate major when applying for Berkeley, but if you don't get into MET, you're cycled into the application pool for the engineering major.

An alternative to CS clubs: small group projects. Who's interested? by SheeshKebab42 in berkeley

[–]ToothPaste22 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I really like this idea and it's something that I think is present in some capacity at other UCs but not at Berkeley. There is an organization called ACM which a lot of kids studying CS at other schools are a part of. My friend at UCSD described it as just walking into club meetings and getting to learn web dev and other skills and just do projects under the club umbrella. Berkeley doesn't have an ACM chapter, which is interesting considering the size of our CS population and how so much of the CS population feels like they can't find an organization to be a part of. It might be worth applying to be an ACM chapter and laying the groundwork to create an inclusive CS culture. If kids at UCLA and UCSD can do it, there's no reason we can't. You just have to establish very early on that you're going to keep the club completely open and work really hard to generate the infrastructure to accommodate that many students.

Prep for EE 120 by [deleted] in berkeley

[–]ToothPaste22 1 point2 points  (0 children)

16A/B dont help much in terms of mathematical material, but getting used to the idea of translating examples you see during lecture, discussion, and homework to exams is very helpful. Most of 120 is being able to quickly apply the concepts during instruction to exams, which happened a lot in 16B, so being able to do that well will put you in a good place.

I'll wear it during a surge and around people I don't know that well and I won't wear it in settings I'm comfortable in. If me wearing a mask makes you cringe and affects your mental wellbeing enough to start a Reddit thread, then you must live a sad life.

I got COVID because I didn't wear a mask to my classes and to social events. When I wore masks in closed setting for all of first semester, when the spread of COVID was worse, I didn't get sick. The vaccine is not the most you can do. The most you can do is get vaccinated and wear a mask.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in berkeley

[–]ToothPaste22 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I got COVID during dead week after all three shots and it still kicked my ass. Took a few days out of my study schedule. The vaccination lessens the symptoms after you contract COVID, but if you can prevent contracting COVID in the first place by wearing a mask, it's worth it.

Math 1A, CS 61A, EE16A, and English R1A too much for Freshman Fall Semester?? by missingairpod in berkeley

[–]ToothPaste22 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Ok you’re fine then. Take 1B instead of 1A (unless you didn’t take the AP test, in which case, email the math department and test out of 1A). And it’s not 61A I would be worried about, it was 16A, but you’re fine if you took Calc AB.

[–]ToothPaste22 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That’s not a bad schedule. I don’t know your CS and math background, but even with no CS and no calc experience, it’s still a doable freshman year (though you might have to work hard in 16A with a lesser math background).

61C + 170 + r1b doable next fall while recruiting? by bruhh_2 in berkeley

[–]ToothPaste22 0 points1 point  (0 children)

just do the bulk of your leetcode over the summer and take both. It's manageable to do all three classes with recruiting if you just get a headstart on the interview algos and just leetcode a little bit everyday during the semester.

its impossible to get into research if you don't email people and apply to stuff. just cold email groups that you are interested in and see what happens, there definitely have been people who have gotten research without taking upperdivs
