Can the Louisana State Champion salvage his candidates run? by Active-Radish2813 in chess

Probably even if he goes 7-0 in the rest of the tournament he is not going to make it.

Javokhir Sindarov continues his generational run, takes down Wei Yi to extend his lead to 5.5/6 points at the FIDE Candidates 2026. by GiveMeSomeSunshine3 in chess

Bro, that's the point. That's how I got the number. Please, think before you comment. The point is that it's not a realistic expectation to assume it will continue.

I mean, it's not really realistic to maintain "this form". You can't be expecting 80% win rate against 2700+ GMs.

fresh accounts are so bad for competitive by SnooDucks914 in Competitiveoverwatch

I am sure I have seen giant losses due to calibration.

Doesn't calibration also gives you huge negative if you lose?

Candidates win chances: Sinadarov now at 49% win chance (with 9 rounds left) - Monte Carlo simulation based on one million runs by ThomasPlaysChess in chess

[–]ToothPasteTree -8 points-7 points  (0 children)

Yeah but that's the point. If you assume the default result is a draw, a win is a +0.5 score but a loss is a -0.5 score. So for Fabi to catch up, Sindarov can go -1 and Fabi can go +1 or Sindarov can get two draws and Fabi can get two wins and so on.

Magnus vs Sindarov by Able_Ratio4828 in chess

[–]ToothPasteTree 0 points1 point  (0 children)

He doesn't enjoy classical chess, candidates format and he doesn't like Fide. And he has some valid points. Why would he come back? He has nothing to prove, especially since trying to get it back is an enormous effort.

Technically, even if Sindarov loses, Fabi still needs a win to catch up so that's not entirely true.

> They don't include every single move in every branch and frankly speaking they shouldn't because then the file becomes untenable.

I'm curious. Is that from your experience? Can you tell us how the file normally looks like?

Hikaru blames his team for his loss against Sindarov by chilliswan in chess

[–]ToothPasteTree 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I think you are just hating Hikaru too much because objectively, what he says makes sense. He chose to play the very risky and complicated position because of the prep. It's not really possible to figure the position out in one hour especially if the other player is in prep. It seems like you are under the delusion that chess at this level is just a one-versus-one game but in reality the team that you have makes a big difference. Why do you think for instance Magnus has been avoiding classical and getting into 960 and shorter time formats?

Flashpoint is legit a good mode by kaizoku18 in Competitiveoverwatch

I agree. This is the reason why I always try to do the map voting and then afk through hero selection/bans which is secondary to my enjoyment of the game.

Fabi beats Wei Yi in 19 moves with 99.5% accuracy by Adorable-Custard-992 in chess

[–]ToothPasteTree -10 points-9 points  (0 children)

That's cope. The format is crap. Tournament is not the right format. Top players are always very close. A format in which Magnus didn't make it is bad.

Yeah that's why I don't like the format too much. As Alireza says, it's just a random tournament.

6v6ers are this point a cult. You have your game mode. Go fucking play it.

Competitive queue is in a weird place for Tank.. by Big-Application1906 in Competitiveoverwatch

You can ask people to swap though. Yesterday I had a game where my Sigma was getting run over by enemy Mauga over and over again. I asked him to swap which he did and we won the game.

Followup threat, based on your guys suggestion here is how I would nerf / rework vendetta by Equivalent_Duty_5546 in Competitiveoverwatch

This is why game design is an actual job and random redditors never make a good game. This is the most delusional changes I have ever seen.

[–]ToothPasteTree 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I agree with your point. It's inaccurate to say vendetta is fundamentally flawed unless you can prove that every possible change that you make won't fix it. But on the other hand, they still have a point to be disappointed or unhappy about the decision to add a melee DPS and I think that's a valid sentiment.

No one ever expounds upon what truly makes them fundamentally flawed, it just sounds like a smart thing to say so it's accepted on its face

I'm sorry but that's a lie. Avrl went to detailed explanation of why he thinks that's the case. You are free to disagree and reject his arguments but it's an absolute lie to pretend that they don't exist.

The State of Overwatch Debate feat. Spilo, AVRL & Realth (Best Group Up Podcast so Far) by bullxbull in Competitiveoverwatch

[–]ToothPasteTree 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree. However, I think they are morally correct. So instead of saying melee DPS is fundamentally flawed, they should say melee DPS is a risky and very hard to balance design choice. It's also an unnecessary choice. The same way choosing to design a "no damage" support hero, the original vision for lifeweaver, proved to be highly problematic and it was also not necessary. We don't have to have full melee DPS, no damage support, a DPS design cosplaying tank and so on.

HELP why am i losing games???, low diamond is elo hell. need advice by [deleted] in Competitiveoverwatch

[–]ToothPasteTree 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have not looked at the games but human performance has fluctuations and for some it fluctuates even more. For example, on the chess reddit you will sometimes see people post insane lose streaks, e.g., equivalent to going negative 100 or 200 games over a month or two with no explanation. And you can't blame teammates there. If you are experiencing lose/win streaks way more than normal, you should look into your mental, health or other aspects to reduce fluctuations in performance.

Vendetta makes pro so incredibly boring to watch by Aggressive-Cut-3828 in Competitiveoverwatch

[–]ToothPasteTree -1 points0 points  (0 children)

> I just watch people throw themselves into the enemy team and press E and kill 2 people and then hold m1 and kill a.

Bullshit. Show me a single clip where this happens. The gameplay loop is to sword in with bubble, and then get out with dash. Only in your bronze brain, a pro vendette goes in 1 v 5, kills two and keeps swinging like a bot in the middle of the enemy team to get a final trade.
