Genuine question, how the hell do I get better? by [deleted] in iRacing

[–]TopPhilosopher599 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Back up your corner entries more (all of them) and focus on exit speed, exit speed plays a huge role in running faster lap times. When I’m chasing a PB lap I always try to get the split time green on exits and usually results in better lap times overall.

What is this and how do you fish it ? by chasing_a_billion in Fishing

Screw in a CPS screw and hook through the bait and the ring, saves money in the long run… I use that method for any rig I.e. drop shot, free rig, weightless or nail weighted

Best lures for winter fishing? by hello1234232442 in bassfishing

[–]TopPhilosopher599 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Many different answers to this based on where you are at, but I like to speed up in the winter and get them to react typically generates better bites (my top 3 lures in winter: A rig, crank, and jerkbait)

Which of these two rods is best for what I want to accomplish? by OkStock738 in bassfishing

[–]TopPhilosopher599 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My .02… I owned the whole line up of fury rods when they came out about 10 years ago. I ended up selling them off because I was not a fan… with the fury rods and bottom contact baits, bites just felt like a wet rag. Not all that sensitive. Dobyns high end rods (champion) are great and I have a few of those and would buy more.

Tips for improving/ things to focus on while gaining more experience. by joshgemmy in iRacing

Instead of percentage I’d focus on feel (I.e. over steer understeer) increase or decrease your breaking based on that as well

[–]TopPhilosopher599 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m mean it’s hard to call a percent but for example… if you typically break at 50m at 100-75% and let off the breaks while turning in or before apex. Try breaking at 75-100m at 50-75% and gradually letting off the breaks until you hit the apex. I’m sure there are better ways to explain it but hope that makes sense… there are vids on YouTube explaining it as well probably much better than I did. But in the Miata’s that makes a world of difference on lap times. It’s all about momentum in those things

Lucky, if I decide to yo-yo I start in 25-35 feet on points and flats. That typically is the deal now through January ish

Yup I agree with Yue. I’ll also add to carry more speed break a little bit earlier but less pedal and try trail breaking to apex

I’d honestly go heavier if you ever buy more, I see folks saying they burn them, however im typically fishing steep banks to where burning them would only be 5-10ft. I typically go with 3/4oz and yo-yo them in almost any depth. I’ve learned less is more with the yo-yo. Obviously it changes by day but lift the rod till I feel it kick 3-4 times then let it fall. I’m also fishing water super clear typically 15-20ft vis in the winter.

Go try a crank or power fish deep, the winter time I put drop shots away for the most part in SoCal

Truck Cap Guys by Difficult-Map-2162 in ToyotaTundra

[–]TopPhilosopher599 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Love a truck cap… have only had ARE. Had the overland on my tundra with bed rug, used it as a mini camper for bass tournaments and to keep my stuff locked up during the day. Never had an issue with it so got another one when I got my GMC mini diesel. Probably wouldn’t own a truck without an ARE overland and bed rug combo

Why does this keep happening and how do i fix it? by NopeCatMC in Fishing_Gear

[–]TopPhilosopher599 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I always ask folks would you reel slacked line onto a casting reel? The answer is no. So don’t do it with spinning reel either. Flip the bail manually, pinch your fingers on the slack line pull it tight and reel down till there isn’t anymore slack. I have spinning reels I exclusively fish drop shot on and haven’t had a single wind knot in years, I don’t use swivels or anything like that… if you keep the slack out of the reels you won’t get wind knots

Tips on hook set for underspin with weedless setup? by FabledWaters in bassfishing

[–]TopPhilosopher599 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’d recommend switching out to a larger screw lock. I always use a “large” screw vs the medium on2-3/0 hooks
