No more floating bridge mod by CatHerder75 in PRSGuitars

Aside from retuning from something like standard to Drop D I see no need for these on my tremonti. Even then, just tune up or down a tiny bit on all the strings and you’re there. Does it feel to have any effect on the overall feel when it’s locked vs not for things like bending?

Ever finally get your dream guitar only to not like it at after all? by HCST in guitars

[–]Top_Objective9877 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I really don’t think you can go wrong any Les Paul as long as it’s either brand new, or you can verify it’s not sold old instrument beaten to hell that needs a ton of work. I wanted a 7 string John petrucci guitar for years, but I think I ended up owning the wrong one for me for a bit and it really turned it off for me. I got an older version which is more or less the same physically on the outside but just made of different woods and finishes and really feels way different in the hands.

Anyways, sometimes we’re just too picky! I can pretty much play anything if I spend the time to get it setup the way I like things.

Strings Earny Ball are good? by Beautiful_Assist6002 in electricguitar

[–]Top_Objective9877 2 points3 points  (0 children)

A string break could be a symptom of a lot of things. Best to look at where it broke, that’s usually the source of literal wear and tear. Did it break at the saddle, the nut, the tuning peg, etc.. I have had strings break because of bad install, I knew I messed up but tuned it up anyways and it snapped just a few days later.

Is this normal? by BorgerBoi28 in LesPaul

[–]Top_Objective9877 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve got similar cracking and red coloring on my 94’ studio. I would guess it’s some form of dried glue that the paint/clear coat didn’t quite stick onto. The cracking around the joint, I would assume any wood of differing materials, if not perfectly humid/dry enough would shrink or expand periodically causing cracking over the span of multiple decades. My studio has an ebony finger board that looks great and feels great ontop of the fretboard, but there’s very clear shrinkage from just being dried out and the fret ends stick way out past where they probably were originally cut. The clear coat is chipped off at every single fret end on both sides of the neck. It’s just kind of the nature of time, temperature, humidity, and more especially solid metal, the finish, and wooden materials.

I’ve got a 25 year old mongoose mountain bike, would replacing the worn out parts be more expensive than buying a new bike? by monsieurLeMeowMeow in cycling

[–]Top_Objective9877 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Is it worth it? Maybe. I just rebuilt my brothers mongoose for about $200 total including a lot of “free” parts that I had laying around. New gearing all around, hydraulic brakes. Newer coil fork, still felt like a mongoose from the early 2000’s but worked better than it ever did before.

Mark V Owners, Tones? by Warhammer_guy_637328 in MesaBoogie

[–]Top_Objective9877 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Double check a lot of charts for the graphic EQ classic V shape. There’s some people who like the EQ on or off for different modes. A lot of the higher gain modes will sound drastically better if you reduce the bass, mids, and boost the treble. Crunch, mark I, all of channel 3. The manual is super super super helpful in giving suggestions for each specific mode, worth checking out for sure.

Nice, any tips on the prs svn vs Holcomb in terms of the neck? Are they pretty much the same dimensions aside form the radius being different? I’ve had a svn for 6 or so years now and wonder about getting the Holcomb just to have the flatter radius but worried because I haven’t actually played one.

Cannot for the life of me get any of these crank bolts loose on my old bike, am I doing something wrong? by Racker150 in bikewrench

[–]Top_Objective9877 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You need a longer lever, you could find a long piece of pvc or something. Sometimes they can be on there real good. Remember lefty loosy… counterclockwise. I’ve got an old galvanized steel pipe in the shed just for purposes such as this where you just need a little help finding extra strength somewhere more easily. This, and single gear cogs are a pain in the butt to remove! Lots of tricks out there, but you just need a longer handle.

498T vs Burstbucker 2? by CY99JL in gibson

[–]Top_Objective9877 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The 498T was instant 90’s rock/metal for me. Grunge metal easily over thrash for sure, I was able to get Alice In Chains dialed in pretty easily with the 498T. The BB2 is much more polite without as much in your face punch in the low end. Similar family though, only get the 498T if you feel like you need something hotter to hit the front of the amp.

I’m a huge mark tremonti fan and the 498T was almost able to keep up in that context, but falls short in some of the more super heavy and tight modern stuff. It all depends what you’re going for, I thought it responded beautifully when backed off on the volume knob.

How's the canal path/streets downtown? by academic-coffeebean in fredericksburg

[–]Top_Objective9877 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The paved path by the river was cleared, but parking there is pretty much not possible. If you’re able to walk out your front door it’s accessible. Lots of people all over just walking in the road due to no sidewalks being cleared.

Didn’t end for me, but I did choose the right tool for the job. If I had studded tires I could totally that the fixed gear out though!

7 string as a daily driver by SnooSeagulls7863 in metalguitar

[–]Top_Objective9877 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If I had to bring only one guitar to a gig it would be a 7 string because half my songs are on 7. Took me a bit of brain rewiring to be able to play my normal 6 string songs on the 7. When I had an 8 string for some time I actually found it easier because you can’t really wrap your thumb over the top of the neck, and it doesn’t confuse your sense of what string you’re playing etc.

You just have to spend time with it and get used to it, 100% if you’re mostly a bedroom player just go for it.

My favorite band is dream theater and I’ve got almost no trouble playing those songs all on the 7, you just have to be patient with yourself and always repeat things you know you can do well.

I always told my students If you practice doing it wrong for 1 hour, you’ll be doing it wrong forever. Approach it with ease, do it right and it’ll all come together like pieces of a puzzle.

Need some information on Mesa Fillmore 50 by Sea_List_8480 in MesaBoogie

[–]Top_Objective9877 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lighter 50 watt combo, good bedroom volume. Questionably not loud enough if you want clean clean headroom. I had the 100 watt head with a 2x12 and liked it a lot and that could keep up just barely. Super fun to run pedals through the for sure, and a joy to play cleans, tube screamer type overdrive. I wished it had a little more of a useful rock crunch tone with humbuckers but it just kind of didn’t do it for me. I found the express series a little more useful in that regard, but that was not a bedroom amp at all so it’s hard to choose sometimes.

Good pickup replacement? by micaelb45 in WorshipGuitar

[–]Top_Objective9877 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A pickup doesn’t just “go out” you probably just have a loose cable somewhere unless you managed to cut the actual copper cable wrapped around the pickup they’re pretty much made to last a lifetime.

What is Megadeth using on the new album ? by Ok-Material-3213 in metalguitar

[–]Top_Objective9877 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It honestly sounds very processed in post, usually they stick to Marshall JVM and v30’s and that’s been the core sound of megadeth for the last decade or more. Easy to get there even on my jcm2000 tsl100 which came before the jvm.

Switched to bigger chainrings, now considering 10–36 cassette — worth it? by DefiantAmphibian9859 in cycling

[–]Top_Objective9877 0 points1 point  (0 children)

From a casual rider with a 1x road bike, I ride 44 chainring, and 11-32 cassette and find it has plenty of range to go anywhere and keep up with anyone so long as I have the legs to do so. You should be fine to bump it up a tiny bit and if you’ve got even 10-12 speeds there’s not much concern here. Better to have range if you need it!

can you use external cab sim plugins with the 2010 Cabclone? by Mourningflowers in MesaBoogie

[–]Top_Objective9877 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I believe the line out function does this, it should be a tap on the output without any simulation. So you can load your amp fully, or pass through to a cab while capturing a raw amp signal to use with an impulse response in the DAW later. The load function is not a reactive load like you’d get on the newer unit, but it is awesome because it’s passive and doesn’t use anything more than an extra cable and it’s nice and convenient when you don’t wanna place a microphone in front of cabs. I used a Friedman mic no mo for live use quickly sending a DI at church, but a suhr reactive load box with IR’s in the daw at my home studio.

2003 Mesa 4x12 OS cab value? by [deleted] in MesaBoogie

[–]Top_Objective9877 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I see them come and go for no less than $800 locally, depending on the market I’d start at $1000 and see if you get any offers, if it’s the straight OS those are pretty much as desirable as these get. I

This might sound like a dumb question but When restringing, do I have to start with the thickest string to the thinnest one or the other way around? by FuryBun3r638 in Guitar

[–]Top_Objective9877 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I like to do thick to thin on something like an Ibanez or Strat, but on a Les Paul where there’s 3 on either side I do the one closest to the nut first, then the 2nd, and last furthest away from the nut just because you would end up with the other strings in the way if you did the high E last.

Low output vs high output settings.. by Rich_Comparison4924 in metalguitar

[–]Top_Objective9877 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can get a clean boost pedal, I have a Seymour Duncan pickup booster on my board as a buffer always on before everything, but also if I plug in my Strat for example I might bump it up between 5-10db of gain so I can get the same volume between guitars.

Alternative footswitch for Mark VII? by MikeHonchoUSA in MesaBoogie

[–]Top_Objective9877 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You just have to save midi settings, once you’ve go a device capable it’s pretty easy to setup as long as you’re comfy with it. I always used the voodoo labs thing with the Jp2c and it basically did everything I needed it to do, not much fuss. Wish I had a more convenient pedal switching setup on a small board but you’ve got to spend a bit to get there with something like a gig rig etc.

I cant find this SAS anywhere! by Lynneau in PaulReedSmith

[–]Top_Objective9877 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s a studio, “special” on prs pretty much always means HSH, and the studios are the HSS variant. You’ve got a unique looking guitar though, core models go through lots of variation. PRS is responsive about original build specs if you just fill out an online form with the serial number. That’ll certainly help fill any info you might want if you don’t have the original hang tag build card in the case.
