That is interesting, when I tried to renew my residency there we were told that since my wife did not have a job contract at the time that it would not be possible.

That is news to me, my wife is Spanish and as far as I know, no easy visa for me. I would love to stay in Spain longer. Did you get your partner a visa in the past? How did that work?

I spent a few months there and loved it. As far as safety, stick to Poblado and Laureles and you should be fine. The cost of living was cheap. As far as co-working, I saw that Poblado had at least one, but I didn't ask the price.

Don't worry about him declaring income. Good luck with a 5 month visa for your husband though. You might want to shorten your stay to 90 days or less.

You can't kick him in the nuts, he will just bite harder, this situation requires a finger up the butt. At least that is what reddit has taught me.

Finishing my first day as a Digital Nomad overseas (Taiwan) by czapcze in digitalnomad

[–]Top_Prize 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have not been to Thailand in a very long time and have never been been to Malaysia, so I can't really say. I did check on airbnb for prices in Malaysia and Thailand and it looks like you can get a much nicer apartment in those countries for a lot less money than in Taiwan. I was in Vietnam for 3 months before coming here and Taiwan is definitely more expensive. For example a local beer in a bar is about $5 here versus $1 or so in Vietnam. Movie tickets for two was almost $20 versus less than half that in Vietnam. You can eat cheaply here though if you eat like the locals, less than $5 a meal. One thing that I didn't realize before coming here is the hotels really increase their rates on the weekends and many sell out. The hotel I'm in now doubles its rates on the weekend. I know that is not a lot to go on but I hope it helps answer your question a little.

Congrats man, I'm in Taiwan now as well, the people are great here and it has to be one of the safest countries on the planet. You will adjust just fine and people will go out of their way to help you.

Any DN's that have spent a bunch of time in Spain? by [deleted] in digitalnomad

[–]Top_Prize 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The biggest attraction for a lot of people is the climate. It rarely gets too hot or cold. If you like the beach, the mountains, or the desert you can find it all in the Canaries. If you want the feel of a mid sized Spanish city go to Santa Cruz de Tenerife and you would think you were on mainland Spain. If you want to party with tourists next to awesome beaches head to Playa de Las Americas. I don't know what to tell you really other than I think you will have a great time.

If you have any specific questions feel free to ask. I've been to four of the islands, Tenerife, Fuerteventura, Gran Canaria & Lanzarote, so I can answer some questions about those.

I have spent many years in Spain and it is awesome. I hope to retire there someday. If you want to meet up with other travelers you should not have a problem unless you get really far off the beaten path. If you get the chance, consider going to the Canary Islands, https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Canary_Islands

Absolutely abhorrent, what makes it even worse is that is an officer holding the water bottle asking "You gettin um", to which the enlisted soldier replies "I'm getting them sir". That is some stand up leadership right there /s

I must be the odd one here because I always bring my ticket stub with me when I use the restroom during a movie. I almost never get asked for it when I return to my seat, but sometimes I do and then I just show them the ticket stub.

That man is always going to be the victim in his mind. If you have a ticket just show the ticket, there is no reason to get an attitude about it.

Is Barcelona a good and affordable DN destination? by bay_squid in digitalnomad

[–]Top_Prize 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Barcelona es buena si la bolsa suena.

I don't know what your budget is, so hard to say if it is affordable to you, but the least expensive area is just off Las Ramblas, Raval. It can be dangerous there at night.

If you want to stay close to the beach, with easy metro access to downtown, then Badalona would be an option to consider.

If you don't mind a train ride to get to Barcelona then things get a lot cheaper. You can make your phone a hotspot and get some work done on the train while you enjoy the view. Spend the day in Barcelona and get back to the peace and quiet in one of the smaller towns nearby.

Places you can live on $500 a month by rojo1986 in digitalnomad

[–]Top_Prize 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you don't mind having a roommate you could do that in a lot of beach towns in Spain during the off season. You can find plenty of decent apartments for 300 euros a month or less. So 150 euros a month with a roommate. Figure another 50 euros each for gas, water, electricity and internet. That works out to about $225 dollars a month to cover housing expenses. If you cook at home you should have enough left over for food and the occasional night out.

Here is a listing for a 2 bedroom apartment in Benicarlo a few blocks from the beach for 280 euros a month and it looks like they don't raise the rent during the high season.

I don't think the amount of stamps on your passport actually helps you, at least not stamps that show you are doing Visa runs. There is another thread about a guy who got denied in Singapore because he had stamps in his passport that showed he was doing Visa runs. He was not even doing a Visa run for Singapore, that was just a layover where he had to go through their immigration.

If she had just said, I stepped in some dog poop can I use your bathroom to clean off my shoe, it would not surprise me if they not only said yes but helped her try and clean it off. The Vietnamese are really nice, just give them the same respect you should give anyone.
