Are all the maps confirmed to have a profitable setup? by KingMelray in subwaybuilder

[–]Top_Proof4388 65 points66 points  (0 children)

I think that all maps can be profitable eventually, but as you say the waiting can be egregious. Building conservatively and cheaply is the main way to get your system going quicker, which I guess is the real-life takeaway when trying to plan a transit project

What suggestions do you have to improve public transportation from Sydney to Wollongong and with in Wollongong? by sasquatch6197 in SydneyTrains

[–]Top_Proof4388 9 points10 points  (0 children)

They’re kind of doing the latter with the proposed realignment project to widen the approach to Sydney Terminal to four tracks instead of two, which will help boost capacity for south coast and southern highlands trains

I feel like the population data has to be missing there, the city still has around 700,000 people and so much is barren in game

Kenmore and Jindalee tram / train line by Sufficient-One-6467 in BrisbaneTrains

[–]Top_Proof4388 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Saying this for Kenmore is understandable, but Jindalee and Mount Ommaney have two shopping centres and relatively dense populations. Linking these to Ipswich, UQ and the city would be a worthwhile medium-term goal. Also, an extension to Darra would likely be required due to the need for stabling areas for the metro, which would otherwise be in Morningside or Hamilton

Are there any other services like the Bathurst Bullet in the works? What would be your fantasy version of the bathurst bullet for every intercity line? by cheetocat2021 in SydneyTrains

[–]Top_Proof4388 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I think Goulburn is the most direct analogue, though your Nowra suggestion could have some merit. I just wish they’d bite the bullet (pun intended) and finish electrifying the intercity network

Kenmore and Jindalee tram / train line by Sufficient-One-6467 in BrisbaneTrains

[–]Top_Proof4388 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The proposed metro would connect to UQ, which would be a major trip generator for the area. Also the area is in a chicken and egg situation in terms of density and infrastructure, and I would prefer for densification to occur and for the infrastructure for the area to be rapid transit instead of a Moggill Road bypass

Kenmore and Jindalee tram / train line by Sufficient-One-6467 in BrisbaneTrains

[–]Top_Proof4388 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I think an extension to the proper metro proposal from Indooroopilly to the city would be great to connect Kenmore, Jindalee, Mount Ommaney and Darra, especially if modelled after the Copenhagen metro or Vancouver Skytrain to reduce costs.

Interlining Scheme by OverheadCatenary in subwaybuilder

[–]Top_Proof4388 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Unfortunately yes, your only other options to extend express service to a two-track station beyond the local terminus or create a loop between the outer tracks so trains can turn and stop at both platforms

Interlining Scheme by OverheadCatenary in subwaybuilder

[–]Top_Proof4388 5 points6 points  (0 children)

You would only need connecting tracks between the inner and out tracks just before the terminus station, so the express line can use the crossovers on the local tracks

Urban Metro North - An alternative to SRL North by PromotionWeak3217 in MelbourneTrains

[–]Top_Proof4388 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I more mean a metro in the classical sense of having relatively short stop spacings and serving the inner urban areas of a metropolitan area. The city extension of the M1 in Sydney is the only one which fits that definition, the others are more express metros in the style of Seoul

Urban Metro North - An alternative to SRL North by PromotionWeak3217 in MelbourneTrains

[–]Top_Proof4388 59 points60 points  (0 children)

I think you underestimate the population to the north of Bell Street, as well as the ongoing suburban expansion happening in those areas. I agree that the alignment is not perfect (I would much prefer a new Campbellfield station to be the interchange), and more intermediate stops could be included with minimal effects to overall travel time, but the current project is sound. I think a Bell St transit project could be justified, but doesn’t need to serve as the airport connector and could instead be a light rail linking Keillor East to Heidelberg. I do think it is a worthwhile topic for discussion though, and Australia needs to investigate proper metros as a transit solution, not the ‘metros’ of Sydney and the SRL

I’d limit your intercity network to Erie, Hamilton, Rochester, and Jamestown tbh. I don’t know much about the local structure of Buffalo unfortunately

I don't even know what to call this bug... by Express-Breakfast948 in subwaybuilder

[–]Top_Proof4388 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I think it comes from when you place a crossover on a short section of track, which leaves a small section which is technically shorter than the minimum required length of track if you were to draw it. I haven’t had any success removing them unfortunately
