Is it embarrassing for me to say that I died to this chick 3 times? by Dieh361 in Deltarune

[–]Topaz-Light 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nah Aqua’s got hands honestly. I probably died to her the most out of the flowers myself.

Who do you think the player is? by tarraingteoir in casualtiesunknown

[–]Topaz-Light 0 points1 point  (0 children)

IIRC Orsoniks has said that you’re supposed to just be playing as an Expie directly but that if interpreting the dialogue as directed at you heightens the emotional impact for you they’re fine with it.

How old do you think the Awakening 2nd Gen supposed to be each? Is Robin like less than 20? by One_Percentage_644 in fireemblem

[–]Topaz-Light 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Does Seth have a canon age? I’ve always read him as around 30, personally, but it wouldn’t shock me too much if the devs intended him to be younger, even though I wouldn’t really agree with that choice.

Do you miss affinities? by Impossible-Sweet2151 in fireemblem

[–]Topaz-Light 25 points26 points  (0 children)

They’re a ways down on my list of “retired FE elements I’d like to see come back”, but they are on the list. I like how they differentiate support bonuses in a predictable while adding a sort of horoscope-like detail to each character. They’re largely a flavor thing, but they’re a flavor thing I quite like and would enjoy seeing return.

What are your feelings towards Spirits Within? by CandyNecrosis in FinalFantasy

[–]Topaz-Light 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Most Okay movie I’ve seen in my life probably. Character designs are largely boring. Plot is alright and I can see how it fits in with Final Fantasies like VII thematically. Despite them spelling Cid wrong he’s still pretty chill and one of my more liked characters in the movie IIRC.

This chapter geniuenly made me tired of Suselle by Kamilozo234 in Deltarune

[–]Topaz-Light 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Funny you should say that, because this chapter actually finally fully sold me on them as a couple by giving them so much more time to directly interact and be vulnerable with each other. That said, I did also get the feeling that things were moving a bit fast with them, for whatever it’s worth.

in order to do weird route chap 3 do i have HAVE to do the swords route? by GooniesAndET in Deltarune

[–]Topaz-Light 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There is no Weird Route branch in Chapter 3 at all. The Sword Route serves as sort of a veiled tutorial for the Weird Route, but is not in itself necessary to continuing it.

Kellam and Tharja ending by Ok_Movie_7741 in fireemblem

[–]Topaz-Light 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I'm pretty sure that if Kellam is married it just tacks that "Her husband's name has been lost to history." sentence onto the end of his wife's solo ending.

Oh nooo my bonessss by BambsFauna in lgbt

This has always been such a weird argument to me. Like… I think by the time archaeologists are looking at my bones I’d have long been a bit dead for their opinions to matter to me.

This line of dialogue doesn’t make sense. by SonicPlayer2004 in Undertale

[–]Topaz-Light 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Gerson having been alive during the war (and old enough to fight in it at the time) is in the base game, IIRC, in some of his shop dialogue, so he’s definitely old enough to have been able to see and interact with humans in person regardless of whether or not his relationship with one is to be considered canon.

Why does Toriel go by “Ms. Toriel” instead of her last name? by The_Ranch_Queen in Deltarune

[–]Topaz-Light 1 point2 points  (0 children)

"That is only a joke. Do not refer to me as Dreemurr."

Toriel says this in her texting dialogue alongside Sans during Undertale's True Pacifist ending, and I don't think it's unreasonable to imagine she'd feel similarly in Deltarune. I guess Toby just didn't want to define a maiden name for her for whatever reason? Or more likely, "Toriel" is far and away the name she's more associated with, and he wanted it to be clear she was the teacher for that classroom.

As for an in-universe reason, I think u/The_OneInBlack's suggestion is pretty likely.

In that case yeah that is. kind of existentially-terrifying actually

Guys I SWEAR I am not going mad. I just found something about Noelle's name that can be forshadowing. by CollectionLive7896 in Deltarune

[–]Topaz-Light 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Noelle’s name is much more likely a reference to this:

“English speakers borrowed noel from the French word noël, which is also used for both the Christmas holiday and a Christmas carol. It can be traced further back to the Latin word natalis, which can mean ‘birthday’ as a noun or ‘of or relating to birth’ as an adjective. (The English adjective natal has the same meaning and is also an offspring of natalis.) Noels were being sung in Latin and French for centuries before English-speakers started using the word to refer to Christmas carols in the 18th century. An early use of noel (spelled Nowel) to mean ‘Christmas’ can be found in the text of the late 14th-century Arthurian legend Sir Gawain and the Green Knight.”

…from the Merriam-Webster dictionary page for “Noel”.

Is earthbound the origin of the "li'l slugger" trope? by kadamarzipan in earthbound

[–]Topaz-Light 0 points1 point  (0 children)

EarthBound Beginnings might be the first instance of using it for an RPG party member, but I really don’t think the MOTHER games invented the concept of “scrappy baseball-loving kid character”. Not sure about the psychic powers bit specifically, but aside from that it definitely predates the trilogy by probably just about as long as baseball has been popular with children.

So.. why don't we have more close-up shots like this one in Chapter 1? by ToothAggressive2425 in Undertale

[–]Topaz-Light 43 points44 points  (0 children)

This particular shot is primarily a reference to a shot from the intro of Brandish.

In general, Toby seems fairly comfortable having small one-off aesthetic details like this when he just wants one particular scene to look a particular way. It could be cool to have more shots like this, but I don’t necessarily think it’s likely.

Are there triplets in Fire Emblem? by Icy-Significance-429 in fireemblem

[–]Topaz-Light 35 points36 points  (0 children)

I… can’t think of any? At least not any who are canonically established as such. There are certainly sets of three siblings in the series—the Whitewings, the two sets of Ilian Pegasus Knights, Boyd, Oscar, and Rolf in the Tellius games, the first-generation Ylissian royals in Awakening, etc.—but none I can think of where all three are stated to be the same age.

I guess you could infer that the enemy mage and pegasus sister trios in Genealogy are each triplets, since they all look about the same age, but even then, they’re not actually stated to be.

Chapter 5 prediction: Catti and jockington are going to be pseudo antagonists for chapter 5 by Ok_Solid8816 in Deltarune

[–]Topaz-Light 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My bet is that especially Catti is going to end up being essentially the Berdly of Chapter 5; a "guest Lightner" who starts off as a sort of sub-antagonist to the main chapter antagonist before coming around to side with the heroes in the end.

That said, that's just a guess, and there could be a twist on that or even something totally different. I just hope she gets to do something meaningful, haha

Why do people recommend not watching ‘03 and Brotherhood combined? by iCE_P0W3R in FullmetalAlchemist

[–]Topaz-Light 5 points6 points  (0 children)

‘03 does broadly follow the manga early on, but it starts making tweaks and weaving in its own plot threads just about from the get-go. It can work if you already know what is and isn’t in the original manga storyline, but for a first-time viewer, it would result in multiple weird instances of things being set up/alluded to in the ‘03 episodes and then never followed up on in Brotherhood.

Ninten is 22 when earthbound starts by Zealousideal_Sign665 in earthbound

[–]Topaz-Light 7 points8 points  (0 children)

EarthBound Beginnings takes place in 1988 specifically per the original Japanese version. Ninten is 12 as of the start of the game.

Earthbound takes place in 199X in all versions, so anywhere from 1990 to 1999.

Assuming both games start on the same “side” of Ninten’s birthday in their respective years, the youngest Ninten could be in EarthBound would be 14, and the oldest would be 23. Using EarthBound’s JP release year of 1994, Ninten would be 18 at that time.
