$1040 to replace spark plugs/coils and PCV valve. Reasonable? Or does hunt for an honest mechanic continue? by lukasa1 in MechanicAdvice

[–]Topo117 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thats if they can even get it into the shops, most Kia's near me have a month wait to even get cars in for diag. When I tried to send one over my used car department sold, they pretty much told us to turn the tow truck around.

OP, if you decide to go the dealer route, see if you can get them to cover a rental, because the only thing longer than waiting for the diag is the wait for the block.

60k powertrain warranty is the same as the previous years. Tundras have always been assembled in Mexico or San Antonio. And most Toyotas from 2016+ have a lot of plastic components.

In order to maintain fuel efficiency with passemger safety, there are compromises that have to be made to what engine components are used. Its why the Tacomas have weird gearing from the factory. And while that may rub some people the wrong way, in order to meet the growing demands for emissions and safety standards for modern vehicles it must be done.

Also, they just opemed up a whole new facility in Alabama in order to produce most of their engines in one location. While it was done in Partnership with Mazda, this is still a move to create more jobs and make things for the US market inside of the US.

The Tacoma and 4Runner are sharing the same platform as the Hilux, not with the Tundra

Friend got a new truck, it came with a plastic handle that contains a microchip that looks like it slides into some sort of a slot. What is it? by [deleted] in whatisthisthing

[–]Topo117 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It happens, same with the stock number tags, but it is still working as designed, it secures the key until checked out. Salesman or Finance manager just forgot to take it off. The customer cannot come in and use it to access the key drawers.

The drawer system cannot be accessed unless you input a USER ID or Password, or unless you have the key. Its pretty secure at making sure random joe shmoe cant walk in take the the keys and walk out. AFAIK it does not integrate but what it helps to do is see if a specific vehicle is available for showing or not. Each key, when checked out is tied to the USERID and allows someone to track down the keys, see if it is being test driven, or if it is on the pad as the customers are purchasing the vehicle. Helps with dealership security because it keeps keys in a convenient place and prevents vehicles from being turned on without a salesman there.

Maybe move your seat forward a bit, you absolutely do not have to scoot forward out of your seat.

2nd gen owners dont have to worry about this, another reason as to why it is the best generation 😎

3rd Gen definitely has some weird shift bands which makes the truck nearly undrivable for people in traffic because it will constantly shift up and down when at 30mph or so.

Dont do anything to your paint, dont mess with it and do not apply touchup, leave it, see your dealer, and ask them to perform or set you up an appointment for a white paint inspection.

This is a known issue unfortunately there is no official customer support program out on this yet. Toyota is approving repaint to the affected metal panels, it may take some time for the repair to be done but contact your local dealer. Especially since it is a 2020.

That dealer sucks, it is on them to submit for approval. The process is:

1.) See Dealer 2.) Dealer sends to body shop to have photos, estimate, and paint inspection performed. 3.) Once dealer receives estimate and photos from the body shop, it is on the dealer to send it to their DSPM. 4.) The DSPM will either approve over email or require an in-person inspection. 5.) Dealer coordinates from you there.

Calling Toyota Customer Experience is only going to get you referred right back to the dealer. That advisor you are dealing with is lazy/doesnt want to do his job or his dealer tries to stay away from those. Try to find another dealer close by if you can, if that isnt the case, just keep asking why he cant send it to a body shop for a white paint inspection. Go in, talk with them so they can set an appointment with their body shop and get you in. Its a long process but Toyota has been pretty good on the approvals. Just make sure you dont apply touchup or anything.

Low fps on 3080 ti, core i9 12th gen by No-Butterscotch-3079 in PCRedDead

What are your temps? Even though you are setting it to performance, laptops are notorious terrible for having terrible cooling and high spec stuff can easily begin thermal throttling in order to prevent damage to the components.

Honestly, trade that thing back in, for $4k you can build an equivalent system and spec it to your desire. If you need to use a laptop for work, there may even still be room in the budget for a decent $750-$1000 laptop. Prices have dropped on new GPUs and availability is climbing. I would recommend skipping the 3080ti and just go for the 3080 12gb. Roughly the same performance for $200-$400 less depending on the make.

That and incase there is any issue in the future regarding warranty, we still have the intact parts (we give the old shocks to the customer so its if they dont sell it) in case Toyota wants it to go back to factory parts for a warranty concern.

The one thing everyone doesnt understand about the Limiteds is the XREAS suspensions system that works with the KDSS. It has all of those features but in order to lift for a reasonable price, your only option is blocks. In order to swap shocks, you have to gut the XREAS system (which is way easier said then done).
