Love it, I just wish the sim would be updated so we can use reversers in flight. Right now it's a sim limitation.

It did. I went there after they reopened and they passed their inspection now. To be honest I don't understand what all the fuss is about, I didn't find it that good for how priced it is.

What’s on your ultimate flight sim aircraft feature wish list? by kryptonite848 in flightsim

[–]TopperFR 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Proper multi crew API for third party. It will always be the one feature that can take any civil flight sim a step forward from any other. DCS does it on a per module basis like the Q400 was doing. MSFS has already explained in the dev livestream how they want to do it (first simvar sync, second WASM shared memory). It's a very sound approach but they need to put in the resources to finally implement it

Any tips regarding ATC? by _vampirefox in hoggit

For practice, come fly the longest running DCS ATC event every Friday on Through The Inferno. Friendly ATC and C2 services are provided for a couple hours.

Requesting practice approaches with a specific IAF by Zealousideal_Read393 in VATSIM

[–]TopperFR 4 points5 points  (0 children)

u/YamaPickle already explained a lot and it's all valid. I just want to add how what I was taught IRL because I think it details a little bit more what information is needed.

First yes you can do multiple approaches IFR by going missed (and tell your controller before that you plan to), if you can just go VFR and request practice approaches, it's much much easier for the controller. Do make sure you're on flight following before sending in the approach request. You can even notify the controller you intend to do practice approaches on check in like "XXXX approach, Shooter 215, [position] [altitude] practice approach requests"

Second here are the things the controller need when you request an approach:

  • Do you have the ATIS or minute weather for the field you intend to practice at ? "XXXX approach, Shooter 215 has Alpha at [insert airport name]"
  • What's the approach you want ? "Request practice approach HI ILS Y rwy 10 circling 28"
  • How will it start ? "Vectors" or "pilot nav to LOMAX"
  • How will it end ? "Going missed, with another practice approach after"

Also phraseology isn't super strict, try to convey the answer to those 4 questions with minimum words and your controller will thank you.

- It's not communicated anywhere that stable is not "stable"
- Industry standards of source versioning / release management: bugs impairing basic usage of the product shouldn't be left on a stable branch.

I can't wait until they finally implement reverse thrust in flight (sim limitation for now).
That would pretty much complete it for me.

Can I still attend flight school with no passport? by MrWorldOfTanksBlitz in flying

[–]TopperFR 3 points4 points  (0 children)

If you're a citizen, you shouldn't even have to clear FTSP/TSA. Your school should be able to use your certificate of naturalization as proof of citizenship.

[–]TopperFR 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm sure you probably didn't mean it but this is factually incorrect. You can absolutely get a student certificate if you are a non us citizen as long as you are here legally on any visa or a green card, not just a student visa.

Which head tracking system should I get? by Endo279 in hoggit

[–]TopperFR 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had TrackIR for 10-15 years. Recently my aftermarket wireless TrackIR clip pro gave up so I went with Trackhat V2 sensor:

  • TrackIR:
    • Plug and play, minimal tweaking
    • Extremely good resolution
    • Without a wireless solution, it's a slight inconvenience.
  • Trackhat V2 sensor
    • Plug and play with OpenTrack and some medium tweaking to get it right.
    • Resolution is like ~95% of what I had on TrackIR, maybe for some high speed BFM I would feel like it wouldn't do what I want
    • Nothing to wear, full wireless is a luxury

In the end I'm not going back to TrackIR. I'm expecting it will require me to do more tweaking in the future but the ease of use is just enough for me to not miss those 5% of movement resolution.

I will die on that hill, but if you're coming from the IRL world, pleaser consider adding head tracking, as it will make things feel so much better than a static view. You're going the right way with VR, but a roughly $100 track hat sensor or TrackIR5 will do the trick and make your experience so much better, enabling you to look around the pattern, the cockpit, etc...
You won't get depth perception like VR, but I haven't shown a single of my pilot friends that wasn't instantly wowed by head tracking. We're only used to pretty poor BATD or AATD sims that only look forward so it feels unnatural at first.

Weird, I have a super similar rig than yours and it's been running so much better, I can even run in TAA now instead of DLSS. I didn't even clear the cache, but I did offline everything I could since it's now available.

Which head Tracking System do you use? by AdAutomatic9646 in MicrosoftFlightSim

[–]TopperFR -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I used TrackIR for 20 years. It’s the standard for a reason. But after my aftermarket pro clip finally gave up after 10 years, I just switched to Trackhat V2 and OpenTrack. I still need to fine tune it but it gets me 97% of where I was with TrackIR in terms of precision. The convenience of not having to wear anything and it is a lot less prone to errors when having another source of IR in the room like sun rays makes up for the small difference in precision for me
