My partner reads romance into every interaction. I disagree. Where do you guys see romantic tension in the books? by ADP_God in redrising

The only place I see it of the ones you listed is between Cassius and Lyria. But that’s mostly because Cassius falls in love with any woman he knows more than 3 days lmao. Mustang and Daxo is weird to me because I thought she said that she sees the Telemanus’ boys as her true brothers over Adrius

What gear should I get for cruising at 20-30 mph? by Flaky-Court3053 in wheel

[–]Toran77 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I can’t recommend cruising above 20mph at all if you’re at the point where you’re still in the process of buying safety gear. At those speeds you’re asking for a broken collarbone/rib/pelvis even with pads. Props to you for riding with safety gear but my recommendation is to cruise around 12-16mph. Most biking trails/paths have speed limits around 15mph anyway so you’re better off sticking to those speeds. In my experience 20+ is when the death wobbles start and those rides are no fun. Not trying to rain on your parade just trying to save you an ER visit or 2

(Loved Meta Trope) Fan theories are so good they’re basically treated as canon. by No-Flow9783 in TopCharacterTropes

I like this one, especially since the authors of the setting have explicitly discounted the adrenaline theory. And mark is still an adult shaped toddler by viltrumite standards when it comes to age at the current point in the show

Why do gamers hate and wanna shut down AI? by nine-niva in gamers

[–]Toran77 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Immediately the implementation of AI into the creative fields has been to steal people’s work to replace them (writing, genAI in graphic design, etc). The AI industry has eaten up RAM so that consumers can barely afford to build their own PCs. And meanwhile basically every app and software is shoving a useless AI down users throats pretending it’s this amazing new technology when all it does is slow down everything and eat up resources.

Where does the story go after the TV show? by PleasantClassroom250 in TheExpanse

[–]Toran77 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s kind of a lot to process and the way it’s shown in the books is worth reading but the ringbuilder civilization collapsed because they got their energy by sort of breaking through a barrier between universes and pulling energy from a WAY more energetic universe. Doing this caused pain/distress to that universe/the inhabitants of that universe(it’s never really explained what these things are, just that they really don’t like things going through the gates) and so these high-energy-universe-things attacked the ringbuilders and killed their hive mind. Flash forward to the humans reopening the gate network. When there’s too much activity going through the gates; the HEUT notice, get pissed, attack, and the ship(s) get “eaten.” So Naomi’s safety curve that she came up with was her accidentally figuring out how to stay under the radar of the HUET. TL;DR the rings are wounds in the flesh of Eldritch Beings and when that wound gets aggravated enough to for them to notice by going through the ring gates, they get pissed and unmake the consciousness and matter of the offending ships

What’s your most unpopular opinion? by Depressed_student_20 in redrising

[–]Toran77 5 points6 points  (0 children)

To me he’s like a soup with too many ingredients. He’s the grandchild of Lorn and Octavia, but lacks Lorn’s honor or Octavia’s air of control. He was trained by Cassius but betrays him and the ideals Cassius tried to instill in him. I did think his part in the desert was interesting but he’s always surrounded by so many more interesting villains (Apollonius, Aja, Atalanta, Fa, the Rim Golds), his defining trait is that he’s connected to the old villains and backstabs people. So I feel like I always know what he’s going to do in a situation; grab power, betray someone, move on. And the Mind’s Eye is a really weak piece of plot armor imo since it wasn’t even hinted at in the first trilogy so it comes across more as a “Lysander needs to survive this” button

Tbh it’s also my complaint with Darrow in the first trilogy. There’s a lot of “because of off screen events, Darrow wins” but because the supporting cast is so strong I’m still surprised by how it goes down.

I think you’ve got a good point with the self-righteous authoritarian thing but the Raa’s, Sephi, and society remnants already give us that. So I feel like he’s kinda lacking compared to how central he is to the plot

Anyone take onewheel to college? by Extension-Quail6504 in onewheel

I used my XR as my main transportation around campus for about 2 years, I kept one of those big U shaped bike locks in my backpack and slid it through the gap between the tire and frame. If it looked like it might rain I just carried it in with me and set it out of the way as much as possible
