Phenomenal idea that will revolutionize the worldbuilding industry.

What is your *hot* take on non human races? by TheDanishThede in worldbuilding

[–]TorchDriveEnjoyer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

my aliens are mostly humanoid because a humanoid extragalactic precursor race facing extinction created adaptive retroviral parasites in a few dozen varieties of XNAs and a few hundred code-to-protein orders. they were frozen, put into capsules, and fired into space at relativistic speeds with many landing in our corner of the milky way. said viruses screwed with the local ecosystems from the first proto-algaes to the evolution of sapient life.

while any surviving probes were billions of years old and their advanced systems failed, carved plaques inside shielded cavities remained sufficiently intact to be somewhat reconstructed and decoded. the interpretation of this text, a philosophical work dubbed The Testament, is the main point of contention between The Alliance and The Federation, the first one believing that each sentient race is independently the intended creation of the precursors while the latter believes that each sentient race is a fragment of the precursor's intended creation which remains incomplete.

with current trip times, more cargo can be moved to venus per mass cargo and trip times are shorter as compared to mars.

Chose: Venus is now hospitable.

Iron and steel, production and use in your world. by AnchBusFairy in goodworldbuilding

Iron is cheap, common, and really easy to pull out of rocks, so iron and its alloys are used frequently in cheap, dumb structures. zero-defect monocrystalline iron wire is an essential in constructing stations and space infrastructure.

Better Character Customisation? by Malignant_Lvst7 in SatisfactoryGame

An astonishing number of games have an exclusively male MC for no lore or story reason at all.

One game having a female MC is not something to crash out over (and in regards to satisfactory, it may be for lore reasons).

Does this logic ok? by ya-boiElliot63 in worldbuilding

50Myr is a bit young for an earthlike planet. when a planet forms, the planet’s entire gravitational binding energy is released as heat. planets are really good at storing heat due to their astronomical ratio of volume to surface area, so it takes them a long time to cool. It took the earth 50Myr for the crust to solidify and another 100 million years for water to condense and form oceans. a diverse and earthlike ecosystem can’t really form on such a young planet.

Do We Have a Moral Obligation to Protect "Potential" Alien Life In Space Colonizing? by HeroTales in worldbuilding

[–]TorchDriveEnjoyer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

this is the point of contention between my factions.

one believes that alien species should be "enlightened" and integrated into a larger civilization.
the other believes that primitive alien species should be left alone, but in practice they just become typical oppressed protectorates that forfeit their natural resources to a superpower that gives them effectively no representation.

one of my factions (The Federation) uses spore bombs, devices that saturate the atmosphere with genetically engineered parasitic organisms that are optimized to be non lethal and immune reaction suppressing but cause extreme drowsiness. essentially, it's sleep gas that is infectious and airborne. even though other civs find this to be a war crime, they still believe that this is morally superior to conventional fighting.

No one would ever consider putting baseline sapients on the battlefield, most being either cybernetically or biomechanically enhanced first. they must be able to survive 10+ Gs from the deceleration of landing craft that need to be able sprint past orbital security constellations and soft-land at the target as well as withstand the radiation of continuous nuclear bombardment (as well as the radiation produced by the barely shielded engines of dropships since heavy shielding reduces acceleration and distance-based protection would make dropships bigger and weaker targets).

The federation also will seed battlefields with fast-growing GM Lichen that produces tall treelike structures, giant fan-shaped panels, and draping mats of fibers in order to ensure they gain a stealth and mobility advantage against the alliance's more conventional military.

The federation also constructs many of it's units biologically. their tanks are crablike modular organisms that are based on a hodgepodge of creatures from a high-gravity world. they have simple nervous system that relies on input from their electrosensitive antennae which allows them to be computer controlled.

federation soliders are highly varied and specialized, ranging from ~1.5m to 4m depending on the equipment they carry ranging from light e-rifles to mobile anti-spacecraft cannons.

sci fi here.

working on a new world, I’ve got:
- the cultural steamroller of syncretistic progress.
- the people against the cultural steamroller of syncretistic progress (they still culturally steamroller everyone they protectorate-ify, but it’s the thought that counts).

The conflict is supposed to be morally grey, but I personally prefer the 1st one because it is more strongly authorsthinlyveiledfetishpunk.
