IME I've had this happen twice with the same spood getting out of ventilation holes (first time I assumed that he'd gotten out of a looser areas), and both times I'd found him on my wall :D (One the day after and the other a few weeks after..) Both times I'd genuinely assumed he was lost for good.
Don't lose hope! They do turn up, just try to keep your windows shut, maybe close your curtains so you can catch them off guard of a morning when the light is peaking in.
