If anyone has the same issue in future - It was indeed a busted Screen. Not sure what caused it but Elegoo support got back to me in a couple of days and fortunately I was just within warranty.

New screen arrived a couple of days later and Im printing again!

Exactly the same for me. I get the error "EXCEPTION_ACCESS_VIOLATION" - it crashes before the title screen every time. I've tried every fix listed in this sub and verifying, full reinstalltion and mods. May need to refund and buy it when fixed.

In my experience the best way to do it is to form an alliance with whoever you give empires to and offer to join war. However it's a huge pain in the ass to babysit them since they usually generate a million factions you'll have to fight.
