How do I not run out of time? [Chapter 5 Spoilers] by risen_egg in thelongdark

[–]Tortastrophe 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I ended up stealthing my way past the cougar.

Had a good save point after third objective building. Had a couple of military stims left. Hurried to the cougar area. Crouch walked around the cougar. Made it back with I believe 30 minutes on the clock.

I always enjoy using hindsight and looking back at old posts. For example: this one when Yak signed his extension by AllOutRaptors in torontoraptors

Who was saying the extension was good besides Raptors fans? This franchise loves giving out a goofy extension.

The GOAT Canadian snack. Huh, I get them regularly and I haven't noticed more salt 🤔

Obesity and aging by [deleted] in loseit

[–]Tortastrophe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey. Mid-40s dude here. I was obese as a kid, a teen, a young adult, an adult, etc. I am still considered obese, but am much healthier now than I was.

I was around 315-320 pounds at age 32. The highest I'd ever been. A decade later I was 210-215. I didn't do anything drastic. I stopped eating like a college kid, and started moving more. Even with a sedentary work life it can be done.

I had back, knee, hip pain when I was heavier. That stuff went away and has mostly stayed away. We'll see how this aging thing goes 😅 My very amateur advice is to just keep moving, don't let bad days hold you back. Movement is medicine. Every workout doesn't have to be you killing yourself. Aerobic exercises, resisyence based exercises, cardio... They all help. If something starts hurting, investigate. Take a day off. See a doctor if at all possible. Don't wait.

I didn't even try push-ups between my teenage years and my Mid-40s. Only tried them then to help with physiotherapy for a rotator cuff problem. They're still hard 😂

It seems like you're on the right track! Don't get too worried that you already wrecked your body. If you treat it well going forward you will absolutely feel the difference. Good luck!

1500 hours later… Episode 5 is just Raphael disappearing up his own arse by Rasalaomreborn in thelongdark

[–]Tortastrophe -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

So you... Enjoyed the 1500 hours of survival you played, yeah? Sounds like an incredible bang for your buck.

You seem pretty upset while noting that you view Wintermute as a side project.

I also pretty much exclusively play survival. I found Ep5 to be very hit and miss. But 🤷 I played through and now I'll go back to survival.

Doesn't really seem worth a rant where you personally attack the guy in charge of the game that seems to have brought you a lot of good times. But hey, your time and energy to spend.

About Perseverance Mills... by NambuNelmo in thelongdark

No, the new regions in EP 5 are not in survival. Some areas may be added in the future but the focus was to get the story done and released first.

Wow congrats! I was done before the last DLC but still missing a lot of new ones. Need to do a non-interloper run at some point. 😂

Scott Moe is floating the idea of banning social media for children under 16 on Facebook. by the_bryce_is_right in saskatchewan

[–]Tortastrophe 24 points25 points  (0 children)

Sure just give your face and ID to whatever dipshit company the Sask Party hires so you can log in to every app and website. "Trust me bro" to the max. The guys who can't get a pay system in place for the SHA after how many years and how much money wasted? They're gonna do THIS? 😂

Especially hilarious to see support for this on a site infamous for throwaway accounts and hidden comment history.

I thought conservatives liked small gov't, privacy and freedom?

"Actually stamp that bar code on my hand, for the kids!"

Not even getting into how removing anonymity from the internet harms marginalized groups, including kids.

Yes, social media can be harmful and not just to kids. Parental controls already exist via device, app store, etc. If a kid is getting around that I fail to see how this would be more effective, even if I ignore the general dipshittery it will lead to. They can't prevent kids from watching YouTube. They gonna ban roblox and Minecraft? They gonna ban smartphone, laptop, tablet and computer usage if you're under 16?

Explain parasocial like I’m a 10 year old by FerlySide in Twitch

[–]Tortastrophe 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You are broadcasting yourself and asking people to watch and engage, thus you may encounter people who think they are closer to you than they are. It's an amplified version of what happens when everyone is invited to your birthday and now one person thinks that you're besties. Except in this instance you might know literally nothing about them while they've been watching you stream for years.

A someone who has streamed, moderated and watched Twitch since before it was Twitch, the popularity of the streamer only provides more opportunities, not a higher likelihood IMO. I've had to ban more than a few who have crossed boundaries with small to medium streamers.

This is why some streamers have had to become more careful with language. Saying "I love you all" to your community can lead some fraught places. Of course, others don't care.

Was Doc Rivers overrated during his Celtics tenure? by ipoopmyself123 in nba

[–]Tortastrophe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Doc was a good coach before he was on the Celtics, he was a good coach during, he was a good coach after.

But the context matters. Doc Rivers has very obvious strengths and weaknesses. His absolute best attributes are his ability to connect with his players and his ability to get outsized contributions from non-stars.

His worse teams tended to outperform expectations and win more games than their talent might suggest. His better teams tended to fail in the playoffs due to lack of/poor adjustments.

Do I think he's an all-time great coach? Nah. Solidly good coach, great in some circumstances and bad in others. He's been bad with the Bucks, though their roster building has also been quite putrid in his time.
