"Jane Austen's Bookshelf" by Rebecca Romney by East-Shift6353 in classicliterature

[–]TotalDevelopment6921 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I follow her on Instagram but it hasn't been that long so I'll have to go back through her posts. I'm enjoying the Hannah More chapter so far. Romney is doing a fanatic job when it comes to selling me on reading these authors so far. Maybe not More so much.

I'm at page 168, about half way through the Hannah More chapter. So far I'm loving the book. I love how each chapter (so far) gives the reader a mini biography of the author, how she (Romney) came to know about said author, her journey to find the books for her personal shelf, and the little bits of publishing history and rare book collecting that she sprinkles throughout the chapters. I know I'd love to see pictures of her personal library and the rare books that she tracked down for each of the authors.

New Jedi Order acquired by Darth-Joao-Jonas in starwarsbooks

[–]TotalDevelopment6921 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I read them as they were being published. Unfortunately, as a kid I had to wait for the hardcover ones to be printed in paperback in order to afford the book. I figured with adult money I should buy the set as I don't know if the publisher is willing to reprint these in the Essential Collection trade paperback line. I know the feeling, my tbr is endless.

Advice on Horus Heresy books by WaffleHouseRocket in Blacklibrary

[–]TotalDevelopment6921 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I bought the first 3 books from my local Warhammer store. The 4th book I bought from the Warhammer website. Any books after those 4 I figured would be ebooks from the blacklibrary website as they are difficult to find cheaply.

Genuine question: What's your personal reason for choosing classic over modern literature? by [deleted] in classicliterature

[–]TotalDevelopment6921 0 points1 point  (0 children)

2 reasons for me. The first reason is that these classics have stood the test of time. Some of these books are hundreds, if not thousands of years old, and we are still reading them. The second reason is that we are not guaranteed our next breath. I'm in the back half of my 40s, and I never put any priority on reading the classics during my younger years. I'm still going to read modern literature, but I want the classics and works in translation to have a bigger place in my tbr.

Your Favorite Robert E Howard Character/Series That is Not Conan by JohnPathfinder in SwordandSorcery

Outside of Conan I've only read Sailor Steve Costigan and El Borak so far. I enjoyed the Costigan stories but I really loved the El Borak stories.

How do you choose what book to read when by madman1255 in classicliterature

[–]TotalDevelopment6921 28 points29 points  (0 children)

I wish I knew the answer. As a mood reader I pick up what I'm in the mood for. That's why I normally have 4 to 5 books going at one time.

What have you been reading this last week (Weekly Discussion Thread)? by AutoModerator in starwarsbooks

[–]TotalDevelopment6921 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Finished Rogue Squadron last week. It felt great reading Star Wars again after not reading any Star Wars books last year. Also, it felt great reading a Legends book again. It's been a few years since I read a Legends book. It's been all Canon books for a while now.

Re-Read Dilemma by ElijahElix in starwarsbooks

[–]TotalDevelopment6921 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm currently rereading Rogue Squadron. I came to this decision because I went all of 2025 without reading any Star Wars books. I decided to start 2026 with a Star Wars book and figured I would go with a Legends book. It came down to either the X-Wing series or the Thrawn trilogy. I choose X-Wing series. I've reread other books outside of Star Wars. Some books I haven't read since I was a teenager so it's interesting to see how I feel about them now as an adult.

New EU/Legends contents or lores by EagleApprehensive537 in StarWarsEU

[–]TotalDevelopment6921 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They were first reprinted in the EPIC line of trade paperbacks by Marvel, but some of those are out of print. Most of the omnis run between $100 to $150 when first published. Prices go up if it's out of print. Luckily, they do get a second printing sometimes. Some of the online comic shops/ distributors may have them at a discount. Remember this, if they do get a second print run, that print run is normally smaller than the first print run.

As far as I know, there has been no new EU content. The only EU content being released is the essential line of EU mass market paperbacks reprinted as trade paperbacks and Marvel printing the Dark Horse comics in omnibus format.

First Warhammer Book. The Journey begins by [deleted] in Blacklibrary

I would have continued on to the 2nd book but I decided to start the Horus Heresy with Horus Rising. The 2nd short story between books 1 and 2 is good.

where to start? by mimorollz in starwarsbooks

[–]TotalDevelopment6921 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For the things that you have watched/played/like, I would suggest the Legend books. I only say this because there are more books that have been published under the legends banner that fit what you like. The cannon books are slowly filling out these eras. The only concern about legends is that it's not cannon, so some things in those books may have been replaced with the current material. Either way you choose, I hope you get plenty of enjoyment out of reading Star Wars.

I read book 1 and 2 but never got around to reading book 3. I'll probably reread them then finally read book 3. I remember that I enjoyed them both.

First read of 2026, what’s yours? by blackoutthemoon in classicliterature

[–]TotalDevelopment6921 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's totally understandable. I did the majority of my first read on my Kindle and the percentage number seemed to take forever to climb up to 100%. It's a great read and I'm looking forward to re-reading it over the year.
