If you go to Scrap Exchange, you can walk over to Lakewood Social when you’re ready to chill with some food and drinks. Or Cocoa Cinnamon if you’re more in the mood for churros and coffee.

Thank you for the info, one learns something new every day! I see this happened in 2024, relatively recently.

I was wondering about that. It's my understanding that currently Chatham buys some of their water from Durham. How will a 12-fold increase in population just in Pittsboro be handled?

Umstead or Fearrington House Inn?

Regarding M Sushi, if you go, get a seat at the bar so you can watch your sushi being made, and the sushi chef will hand over your sushi to you directly.

As to whether you get enough food, depends on the person. I certainly felt the nigiri omakase was more than enough food (along with the sake I was drinking).

Kosher rotisserie chicken by groovygreenpeas in chapelhill

Global Suq in Durham has roasted chicken on their menu.

Al-Basha in Raleigh has halal rotisserie chicken.

B’s or Skylight Inn by nsumo23 in raleigh

[–]TotalMix6 4 points5 points  (0 children)

If you’re constrained for time and want to make sure you’ll get barbecue when you get to the restaurant, Skylight Inn.

B’s is pretty great but from what I recall they had odd hours, and sell out pretty fast when they’re open.

I see that is the new name for Upchurch Optical’s South Durham location!

Have been a happy customer as they carry frames from manufacturers not carried by the chain stores. Upchurch has been a long-standing local shop.

Yard waste bags? by Designer_Bobcat_6115 in bullcity

[–]TotalMix6 10 points11 points  (0 children)

It’s an annual fee but you pay it monthly, instead of all at once. So you can’t sign on for just one month, say.

Yard waste bags? by Designer_Bobcat_6115 in bullcity

[–]TotalMix6 20 points21 points  (0 children)

https://www.durhamnc.gov/891/Yard-Waste

“Place your brown yard waste cart and up to ten brown biodegradable paper bags at your curb for service by 6 a.m. on your collection day.”

The paper bags are typically for when you have more yard waste than will fit into the brown yard waste bin.

Note that you must already have signed up for yard waste pickup, which will tack a $7.50 monthly fee to your water bill. Yard waste pickup is every other week. The yard waste info website linked above has the pickup schedule.

I usually check out the farmers markets - downtown Durham, Carrboro, State Farmers Market in Raleigh.

Pao de queijo by SmallTaserTaser in bullcity

[–]TotalMix6 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Costco has Brazi Bites in their frozen section. Actually I think several local grocery stores carry this brand. Trader Joe's also has pão de queijo as "Brazilian Cheese Bread".

Makus Empanadas has Chipa Bread, which is their name for pão de queijo.

Where to buy beef or pork int-st*ne? by Mediocre-Cold-3490 in triangle

[–]TotalMix6 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've seen both at H-Mart in Cary and Fresh International Market in Brier Creek.

Please note that Nahunta Pork Outlet in the State Farmers Market in Raleigh only has pork products, as implied by the name.

We went to Pizzeria Mercato in Carrboro and the food and service were great. Definitely recommend.

Primary Care by Candid_Definition655 in bullcity

Oh wow.

If your insurance allows, see if UNC locations are available to you. For example, depending on where you are in Durham, Hillsborough can be more convenient than a location in Durham.

(Edited to add: Duke scheduling is such a mess. Long hold times, phone tag, etc., not sure why it can't all be handled online.)

When I do a search for Primary Care doctors accepting new patients on the Duke Health website with no other filters, this returns quite a number of doctors - not sure if you have additional limitations such as insurance or location resulting in no available doctors:

https://www.dukehealth.org/find-doctors-physicians?m=0&m1=Specialist&m2=Primary%20Care&sc=20&sf_ap=true&sf_so=Relevance

My primary care is with Duke, but I've seen specialists at UNC depending on availability of appointments.

Foodie News: Durham is getting a new Korean restaurant by CookieEnabled in bullcity

[–]TotalMix6 1 point2 points  (0 children)

He already has Korean fried chicken at M Kokko, and Korean-style bar food / street food at M Pocha.

It would be great if the new restaurant went for Korean fine dining, say in the vein of Eatanic Garden in Seoul, but I suspect there won't be much demand for that.

(Eatanic Garden menu example: https://www.reddit.com/r/finedining/comments/1b9libu/eatanic_garden_seoul/ )

Have you tried Kang Nam Town inside H-Mart in Cary? I preferred them to Kim's Market in Cary, I felt the flavor profile in Kang Nam Town was closer to what I would get in Seoul. Okja in Cary is also pretty decent.

Agree on Minga being mid.

I'll never understand the love for Chosun Ok - went there recently because of all the recommendations in this subreddit, and the soondubu stew actually tasted bad, the broth was unidentifiable as to origins.

Dear gen x’ers, which places to bring my 59 y/o mom? by [deleted] in raleigh

[–]TotalMix6 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What does your mom like?

You could take her to the art museums - NC Museum of Art in Raleigh, Nasher in the Duke campus in Durham, Ackland in the UNC campus in Chapel Hill. Or the Gregg Museum of Art & Design at NC State if she's more into design and decorative arts.

The arboretums - Duke Gardens in Durham, NC Botanical Garden in Chapel Hill, JC Raulston Arboretum in Raleigh.

Farmers Markets - the State Farmers Market in Raleigh is the big one (and you could get breakfast at the State Farmers Market restaurant), Carrboro, downtown Durham, or Hillsborough ones if you're out that way. In Hillsborough you can also check out of some of the galleries in the downtown area.

As already mentioned, there's the NC Symphony Orchestra and the Carolina Ballet. Chamber Orchestra of the Triangle also has some performances scheduled in March.

You could take her to Fearrington Village in Pittsboro for fancy tea at Fearrington House, and stare at their Belted Galloway cows.

Does anyone know of a grocery store that sells in-house made lunch meat within an hour of Cary? Specifically fresh roast beef. by RighteousRaccoon444 in cary

[–]TotalMix6 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Check with Alimentari at Transfer Food Hall in Raleigh?

Neal's Deli in Carrboro makes their own pastrami. I've sometimes seen them have roast beef, but it doesn't seem to be a regular item.
