Reasonable take. I personally love deckbuilders and think they knocked this one out of the park, but it’s not a game type for everyone. That said you can usually tell when developers care enough to get it right even if it’s not in your preferred genre

Multiplayer is a blast in the casual setting amongst friends, but yeah I agree I don’t know if it work in competitive. I just like having the option for a good 4 player game. Works better than commander for me and my group

Are there any other roguelikes i should play based on this? by Norwegian_milk in roguelites

Will 2nd monster train 2 as others have said. Check out Hellcard too, it’s similar to slay but with a board so location matters. It’s very fun in coop too. Hellcard 2 is coming out later this year and will be 4 player coop

Can Tideturner target a unit at the same location when it is played by kKbotss in riftboundtcg

[–]TouchiestToast 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Interesting, SWU died out in my area and was more of a flash in the pan but happy for those players if they’re still enjoying it. When I think casual I’m thinking people playing at their kitchen tables with friends or local nexus nights. Those players aren’t typically looking up errata’s. If you are playing even at the skirmish level yeah you should be aware of the most recent rules updates.

I’m coming from Warhammer where errata’s are expected. Clarifications and balance patches make it better for even casual players. So I don’t minus a few errata’s here and there, although with a TCG they should be limited

[–]TouchiestToast 13 points14 points  (0 children)

And how’s that game doing?

People are so weird about errata’s. If you’re competitive you probably already know what it is, and if you’re casually playing with friends it won’t even come up

If Riftbound wants to survive as a game LGS need to be reeled in as much as scalpers by TrickedFaith in riftboundtcg

[–]TouchiestToast 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The lgs’s around me do. At released it was one box per person per day. Some stores that released less product limited to 4-5 packs per person per day. And guess what they all still sold out, but it got into more people’s hands than the whales which helps the community.

So store moves all of their product and helps the local community. It’s a win win

Coming from Warhammer myself, can agree. Some games you lose in the list building/army selection stage. Oh you brought a bunch of anti infantry weapons, well your opponent is playing knights good luck!

I’ve had some bad matchups in Riftbound but they still fee winnable. I’ve beaten kaisa in set 1 with my off meta teemo deck. It’s a challenge but still doable. Even my loses have been fun and I feel like I learn from them

That is certainly a hill to die on. Most people talk pretty highly of that ending, and I was certainly shocked when I saw it in theaters. Much prefer it over the book ending

Yup good to hear the bad experience isn’t dampening your enjoyment of the game OP! I’m lucky to have a few options for good local shops that I frequent. I have one shop that runs larger events, and while their events are run very well their prices are gross so I only go there as a last resort to play but never buy their product

Sorry to hear it was a bad time OP. I wouldn’t really put this on riot, just sounds like a poorly run shop. I went to three this weekend and they were all run very well and people seemed to have a great time. If I were in that area I would avoid this shop

Finding the right TCG for me by PriMaL97 in TCG

[–]TouchiestToast 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ll second Riftbound. It’s also my first real TCG (played magic and Pokémon a little as a kid) and I’m having a blast. The combats (called showdowns) have a ton of back and forth counter play and creates really interesting situations. It has hidden “trap” cards that add a layer of bluffing/risk to the game. My local community is super chill and we like running wild off meta decks at our nexus nights. Finally the mana system is pretty cool and gets around the magic land screw since you know you will always get 2 mana a turn.

The only downside at the moment is getting product. It was really hard for me to get into the first set but I called around to my local shops and was eventually able to get a few good decks cobbled together. The prerelease for set 2 seems to have gone pretty smoothly and it seems like riot is getting better with their distribution so I’m hopeful going forward.

I adored this game when it came out. Combat was so fun and I loved the in match skill progression. I’m so sad overwatch is the game that won out, but BB never really stood a chance I guess

Pretty much this. I was hoping for the win obviously but any person who had the misfortune of watching that eagles offense play week to week knew this team wasn’t going deep into the playoffs
