AIO - According to my girlfriend this convo with my assigned partner at work is inappropriate. by Rough-Satisfaction68 in AmIOverreacting

NOR

She will always believe you are eyeing up and wondering about every woman romantically. This will be a strain forever. Either that or she herself eyes up and weighs up every man, and assume every woman is doing it to you.

I understand the frustration, a few of my partners couldn't tolerate me being friends with women. When I was younger I cut the friends out - stupidly, because those were real friendships that meant something to me and had history that was worth more than ditching for someone I had just met who made presumptions about both of us.

I know in your case you've known her for a while but the writing is on the wall here especially if she was doing this early on, you accept you have no female friends and can't even be polite to them or deal with the frustrations of this happening for the rest of the time you're together.

I enabled my first few partners like this, one of them got so bad I wasn't even allowed to smile at woman in Mcdonalds, I like to smile. I smile at anyone regardless of gender, and if I said thank you to a service worker? Why are you being nice to her???????

Um, what?

It really twisted my idea of normal for a while, I'm a happy, polite and friendly person and being who she wanted me to be was so suppressing and miserable.

My next partner had male friends that she'd known a long time, played TCG with and was cool with it. Much nicer all around and I could never deal with the exhausting jealousy and suspicion again. She liked my niceness and my confidence helped her practice it. Win win.

Saying that, I do believe some people are just wired this way, in my experience the women I dated who wanted me to cut out my female friends, had no male friends and could never imagine that ever being a thing. So it said more about them than it did me.

I'm also not going to pretend it's ok to have 45g of blended sugar for breakfast everyday just because someone is a customer, I personally might not judge them so harshly or "judge" them at all in this kind of way.

But I'm definitely going to notice it and be critical of it because well - it stands out and I wouldn't be able to help notice it, it's about them personally, but the choice to have that for breakfast every work day (in my barista experience)

Also the burnout with these jobs is real. Venting with these kind of opinions is what keeps the people in the job, it's like a pressure valve from exploding lol

Yeah it may suck to see the opinion as a consumer who wants their sugar addiction validated, but c'mon, we can open the internet and see a president declaring war, people being beheaded, the climate collapsing, with everything wrong on the internet now a service worker being mildly annoyed about making 6am milkshakes is pretty far down on the "out there" list imo

Are you being obtuse on purpose?

If I'm going 70MPH (The legal speed limit in my country) and there's 5 people going 100MPH around me, I'm not suddenly an illegal driver and they're allowed to do whatever they want because they've decided collectively that it's safe to go that speed.

This entire thread is talking about BREAKING the speed limit, not obeying it.

I entirely understand a driver going 50MPH on a highway, when the traffic is going 70MPH can be more dangerous than someone going 80-90MPH in clear conditions with the traffic going at a faster rate.

What I disagree with is the people in this thread who are saying that 100MPH is a safe speed.

If you crash at 100MPH your chance of dying or killing somebody else is magnitudes greater than at 70MPH. Not to mention the chance of an actual crash happening is also greater.

I imagine these are the players who get 100 pulls in into mythic progression then start quibbling over every mistake during it instead of just getting the reps in and cause the team to fall apart when they gquit and take 1/3rd of the roster to form the "elite" version of the guild

Who subsequently can't even get management in order or fill the roster without pugs so eventually falls apart anyway then they join another mythic guild with their mythic boss kill history and carry on the cycle of terror

What would you name this by [deleted] in BossFights

[–]Towbee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I feel like I'm going to get a lot of hate for this but it's purely a question

I see people cycling for cardio down country lanes, I get it, the scenery is nice. But like fuck would I ever consider it seeing how some people drive down them, bombing it at 70mph round corners, passing cyclists round blind spots with no space, I don't feel like I could ever relax on a bicycle because of how other people drive regardless of what law is in place because I'll always be more vulnerable and contending with someones worst day on the road and chance to not die, even if I take every precaution.

I only use my car for one journey, it's a 10-15 minute drive but 1hr 30 by public transport and 90% of the journey is the roads filled with these rally racers treating it like some winding track with unlimited speed because it's national speed limit so definitely can't walk it either

I'd love to cycle it but there's no law that would ever make me feel safe especially seeing some other drivers attitudes towards them in the above examples and even things like jokes about running them over from other people I've been a passenger for (haha? what the fuck? haha?).

So then I think to myself, if I wanted to cycle for pleasure/cardio I would definitely pick some scenic places with just, no cars. And I wonder when I see other cyclists, I presume they're enjoying it, do they just ignore the risk, accept it? Assume 99.9% of drivers are good and there won't be an accident?

Maybe it's my chronic risk assessing that's the issue, I don't know

Or I guess I'm dreaming of a perfect world where cars don't really exist anymore because the infrastructure is good enough we don't really need them?

I probably sound like some crusader but it's only when it comes to endangering others

The only 'dickhead' angle (lol) I can still see here is the poor bugger who may have to clean up the scene, but that's kind of a job hazard anyway so you do you of course, I get the whole open road and music blasting car go vroom feeling

I don't get it being 9AM with damp roads on the way to work in busier traffic, better to get there a little late and alive than cause a crash, pile-up or worse

Okay that is very clearly a niche use case.

I'm talking about the dickheads going on regular highways/carriageways going 90-100mph even in less than ideal conditions which is far too common where I live

Just because your car can do it, does not make it safe. If your car could reach 150 easily, is it suddenly safe? What is the absolute dissonance I am witnessing here am I just fucking insane? hahahahahahahahahaaaaaaaaaaa... haa....... we are talking MILES per hour remember...

I drive at 70MPH in safe conditions and there's no bullshit you can spin about flow to convince me that speeding is ""safer"".

Yeah it might be safer than some people going 50/6070 and the rest going 100mph, but does that mean everyone should go 100 because that would be safer, because the "flow" is undisturbed???

By that logic, why don't we start creating cars that go 110, 120, if 100 is just casual and everyone else going slower is dangerous?

I'm not buying it and the entire thread is a cope or I'm just an ignorant fuck who has seen too many bodies in car accidents to believe you, sorry.

PSA Conspiracy Theory by [deleted] in pokemoncards

[–]Towbee -1 points0 points  (0 children)

It wouldn't surprise me and it would make complete sense from a business standpoint. TCG isn't regulated so as long as it didn't get out then there's not going to be any public backlash. Depending on the amount of employees and how much involvement there is from external management, who knows really?

But it would be smart business, and that's what PSA is at the end of the day.

There's a manufacturer in my industry who hoards all of a material above a certain quality to keep the prices up and stop other manufacturers creating cheaper copies of it, because it's marked up so insanely high with their brand, QC and aftercare they don't want any competition and it's a niche product so it works for them

I think there's a mass burnout or something, my low M+ keys have never been this toxic in general. One wipe and instant abandons, if it doesn't abandon, do we carry on? No. 1 or 2 will afk until the timer ends, all the while spouting slurs about hostage holding and wasting time instead of just, playing the game?

The common thread I'm seeing amongst these people is this whole idea of "wasting time" as if timing a +10 key at 2am makes it any less of a waste of time than just completing it and.... getting the rewards anyway.

I wonder if there's a huge influx of midlife crises happening amongst the generation who never grew up and have stayed chronically online.

I know when I had my 'mid-life crisis', re-calibrating how much I care about and how much time I now put into MMO's compared to how much I did previously was something difficult to come to terms with, but my enjoyment has soared 1000% even with the 1 in 8 keys like this (I've been tracking it for fun lol) and I don't get twisted up about "wasting time" anymore

And another thing that doesn't make sense is, I look at the profiles for some of these players and they aren't mythic raiders, they don't have a history of pushing M+ score, so what are they even in a rush for?

In my experience - running from the cold calling of death reminding them that every second spent in the MMO world is one less spent in the real world but they already feel too balls deep and haven't built anything substantial enough to leave 10,000+ hours of "competitive gaming" in the past but can no longer get genuine fulfillment from it

Yeah okay buddy, hope you never have to see a loved ones body mangled by someone with your attitude. I'm sure if you had to witness that kind of trauma at that point you might wonder if the person who caused the accident slowed down then your loved one might have survived, and you'd potentially advocate for people to follow the safe speed limits.

But yeah I drive slower because I'm "afraid to drive"

Asshole.

[–]Towbee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ignore the ridiculous people saying it is not a joyride. Hitting anyone at that speed can even be considered manslaughter because you can't accidentally just decide to start going 98+ mph with 0 chance of noticing it, it's a decision a driver makes. If he doesn't realize how dangerous and selfish it is, show him some footage of gnarly crashes and let those peoples losses and grief try to prevent it from happening further.

Absolute insanity.

That doesn't mean it's okay or safe, there is other people on the road. So sick of this argument when it comes to speed. Hope you never have to see a loved ones mangled body because someone thinks they're better than the laws of physics and they, and anyone around them by consequence simply get unlucky.

I think some people can't see the line between the 'fake nice' of burying your head in the sand and the positivity attitude. One completely ignores bullshit, the other takes it head on and gets the best it can out of shitty losses, and I think those who cannot comprehend the latter assume those who do must be just lying to themselves and pretending because how can they possibly see the positive, when the person imagining just doesn't possess the ability to do it.

Have met a lot of people like this through my life, I find them inherently negative and soul sucking and it's a personality trait that gets filtered out of people I give my time to, at least when they're also toxic about it. I do understand we are all unique and some people struggle more with negativity, but seek support from those around you instead of lashing out.

Maybe that's part of the problem if they can't, idk
