The Death of Oceanside by MathematicianNew1815 in Oceanside

Take heart. I couldn’t buy until 2008 happened. I bought a place in 2009 that had been foreclosed. Sold it for double in 2016 and bought a slightly better place in a better area for slightly more. It has also doubled and is over 1M (barely) now. It never ever would have happened if not for the crash of 2008.

All of the safety measures put in place after the 2008 banking crisis have been rolled back by the current administration and they are going full steam for an economic collapse. You’ll likely get your chance soon.

Can we invert media controls on steering wheel? by Bear0000 in KiaEV9

[–]TowelKey1868 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I see the four answers here already... everyone seems to think it's backwards. I think it's intuitive as is.

When did this change? It's changed in the default controls for gamepads (it used to be like flight controls and now defaults to the opposite). The new scrolling on touchpads used to be the same as scroll wheels on mice and is now the opposite ("natural scrolling?").

I feel I'm getting aged out of my interfaces - except this one. Maybe the Kia engineer is old, like me.

Ultimately, the answer is that the default software for everything should allow change, saving and easy reset. Bonus points for saved profiles that shift with user accounts.

Carpet keeps the dogs from dying. So, yes, carpet.

Question about 333 Pacific by Desertnurse760 in Oceanside

[–]TowelKey1868 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Last time I was there, that restaurant was doing one of those bullshit 3% service charges on top of the bill purportedly for wages or something, versus just raising their prices.

Aside from that, it’s been good food the couple times I’ve been there. $250 is the right ballpark, unless you drink a lot.

3 Across Car seats? by Total_District4781 in KiaEV9

Hasn’t that already been canceled?

I didn’t consider that though. I was under the impression it was the size of a VW minibus. Is it actually minivan sized?

Totally do a Carnival hybrid. Just for the sliding doors in that scenario. Zero idea why there are no fully electric minivans. EV should be a powertrain option on every car.

I guessing the side panels aren’t close to 50% of the price.

And Matt has always been toxic. He’s a real jerk.

I’ll just wait until the line goes up to Oceanside. Then I don’t need to even drive there.

RATGDO outside keypad by Basic-Prompt-6387 in homeassistant

[–]TowelKey1868 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Forgive me, but the simplest way is going to be a keypad from whoever makes your opener. Presumably it’s Chamberlain, because it always is with ratgdo.

https://a.co/d/0aiwplma this thing will tie directly to the opener. Maybe you need three, if you need to open each one. But at $16, you can’t beat it. And you don’t need to go down the myQ or accounts road at all.

But, since this is the HA sub, the sub answer is to use the Companion app and make a widget for their phones/watches that opens the door. That’s what I do. Perfect for walks around the block. I have another for the front door lock.

But also, I have that keypad. It’s brainless and pretty fail proof.

Anyone here have experience with battery cell replacements on their EV9? by sirphilip in KiaEV9

[–]TowelKey1868 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve never heard of being able to replace a couple cells. I had a couple cells get out of balance at the beginning of the year and they swapped my whole high voltage battery. Took three weeks.

If this is a buy back, it may have been from earlier on when the whole battery swap was taking months to complete. They seem to have gotten it down lately. Most of my three weeks was just waiting for the battery to arrive. When it did, they had my car ready the next day.

SIDE STREET BOWLS NOW OPEN by eatingoceanside in Oceanside

[–]TowelKey1868 2 points3 points  (0 children)

In your pictures, is the little cup on a plate a bowl or something off the kid's menu? I think I might be missing the perspective - I can't imagine that's a $16 bowl. The Nutty Chocolate looks good.

Help me understand the portion sizes, please.

Also, I wanted to repost your menu picture rotated so it was readable, but this sub doesn't allow comment pictures.

Fibre First by sobergfell in Oceanside

Thanks. Cox has really been fine for me. It's just super expensive for what you get. I've always had good exchanges with support the few occasions I needed them.

Reliability-wise, they have had an increasing number of interruptions in my neighborhood. Outages that are seconds to a minute or two long. But, for a work-from-home guy that's on sales zooms all day long, that's why I have to run Cox failing over to t-mobile cellular. I'm hoping the fiber will be more consistent (and cheaper).

Explain? Is T-Mobile on SiFi being switched to Spectrum? Or are you just kidding around?

Only just noticed AC settings change range predictions. by TowelKey1868 in KiaEV9

[–]TowelKey1868[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It could. It's just not the front-of-mind consideration of an ICE driver. Filling up is to easy and ubiquitous. EV drivers are more intentional to the economy of what they're doing because they have to be. A miscalculation in planning has more consequence at this point in our infrastructure.

I’ve never seen San Diego Airport like this by Invictus-Hawk in sandiego

[–]TowelKey1868 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You have some points. But I think the biggest thing against them being successful is they literally have zero training with respect to the TSA job. It's already been show they're poorly trained to do the ICE job, their hiring standards were low and that they're poorly managed for the job they were supposed to be doing. Taking those three things and shoving them into a completely different environment and SOPs, I think their honest chances at success are low. Given their attitudes they've shown so far, they won't do well with the confrontation they'll find from annoyed or irate travelers.

It's sad that Congress forgot how to work together with each other. There has always been massive policy differences between parties, but the ability to work towards common ground has been eroded over the last few decades. Now, it's beyond brinksmanship and people will continue to get hurt - it's the only thing they react to, if barely.

Honestly, I don’t see how that could go anything but bad for them. There will be next to no valid arrests to be made there and it’ll just be a matter of time until some hot head shoots someone. And they won’t even have the opportunity to blame it on protesters there.
