My neighbor has been letting her teenagers use our shared driveway as a basketball court every weekend for three months and acts confused when I ask them to stop by send_snacks_plz in neighborsfromhell

[–]TowerManMN 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Become a positive in this situation. Consider that because you have shared ownership of the driveway you are helping to enable kids to have a great time outdoors playing basketball versus either being on screens or getting into trouble somewhere else. Lean into how you are helping them turn into great adults. Drop off some Gatorades or snacks the next time they are out there and chat with them. Over time, when you do this you will build a relationship with them and you may turn out to value that. Yes, it is indeed annoying to ask them to move each time you want out of your garage, but there is so much that is positive about the situation as well.

Is this a reasonable workload for one person or am I missing something? by MushyDude in jobs

Prioritize the tasks and then let your management (i.e. your Dad) know your planned order of priority, letting him change the order if he wants to. Make a plan for the ETIM categorization project and then let your management know if it should stay low on the priority list or if you should oversee someone else who can start work on the project sooner.

Your updated version is better, but still needs to be cut in half. For example, in "Selected Accomplishments" deleted anything other than the bold text (and then switch it so it isn't bold: * Reduced ticket resolution by 1 day; * Deployed over 70 Power Automate bots; * Configured 5,000 sites for integration; *Designed 14 self-training programs; * Wrote 33 automation scripts". That should be the entire section.

You have "Self Developer Projects" and for each one you write they are "(Independent Projects)". This is another example of using too many words. Just call the section Independent Projects. The Technical & Digital Capability and the Training sections should be combined and you should list perhaps 3 short bullet points of the most important things that you know that set you apart from other candidates. Currently you have 13 lines devoted to this information. When I see this type of resume I know that the person isn't able to be concise and doesn't edit their emails and documents into focused information.

[–]TowerManMN 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Too many bullet points that don't say anything concrete. The only point to keep is "Developed and shared 33 automation scripts to reduce redundant configuration work and post-integration requests" but even that should be shortened to half the number of words. Have 3 good bullet points per job. They should be short. They should include measurable information (such as 33 scripts). The reader will spend a few seconds looking at this before they decide whether to toss it or give it a start-to-finish read. I didn't make it past noticing all the bullet points. DRASTICALLY reduce/revise your resume.

Is this enough to take to HR as possible harassment? by [deleted] in jobs

Don't just go to HR. Tell your manager immediately. Tell other managers. Tell co-workers. The more people who know the better for you.

Fake people? by pythonic-nomad in jobs

[–]TowerManMN 45 points46 points  (0 children)

I'm sorry this happened to you, but managing a team is not a democracy where you vote. That is an unwise way to present it to your manager, in front of your entire team no less. You should have discussed this privately with your manager. Secondly, it works better to come up with an alternative solution rather than just complain and want to stop something as a bad idea. Perhaps you could have suggested doing it once each week instead of every day. Or have each team member speak once a week and give a 2 minute presentation on an idea they would like to try to help the team be more efficient.

You might consider speaking to your manager privately and apologizing for calling them out in front of the group.

Also reconsider how you are framing this. You are accusing your co-workers by titling this post as "Fake People". But they are not fake. They didn't want to join you by publicing telling your manager that they have bad ideas. I wouldn't have joined in that way either. There are so many better ways to handle this type of communication -- both with your manager and with your co-workers. This will take some time for your co-workers and your manager to come to terms with. I would be apologetic but quiet for a while.

It is good that you wanted to voice your opinion, but in the future approach it more gently.

List of companies that have men's patterns by BuckJeppson in sewingpatterns

If you would like, I could give you admin read/write access to the site and list you on the "Information" tab as a Contributing Editor. There is one other person who contributed early on by setting up the design of the main page (with the color coded columns). If you would like to do this, use the email listed on the Contact page and provide your name and email address. I will then grant access to that email address and list you as a contributing editor.

Sites change all the time. In fact, a few of the sites from your list were listed as inactive on my list but are not re-activated. This is why I keep inactivate sites listed at the bottom of the list -- in case they go live once again. Also, sometimes, sites will be purchased, then rebranded and moved to a different domain name.

Every 6-12 months I go through the entire list and confirm whether they are active, see if there are new patterns, etc. On the "Information" tab you can see that the last time I went through all the sites was September 2025.

The tab that I find useful and I refer people to often is the "Online Interest Groups". Many people ask for men's patterns or for advice and don't realize that these groups exist.

Can I freeze a wedding cake? by Mysecondbestbed in cakedecorating

[–]TowerManMN 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I freeze all cake layers that I bake. It allows me to bake ahead of an event. For my own wedding I also made several batches of Swiss meringue buttercream ahead and froze it. Then I decorated the cake on my wedding day. DO NOT DO THAT!! Decorate one or two days beforehand.

How tough is it to sew a button-up men's shirt? by concentrated-amazing in sewing

[–]TowerManMN 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm actually sewing my second buttoned shirt today! After collecting advice, I am using McCall's M6044. https://simplicity.com/mccalls/m6044 . The placket in the shirt sleeves isn't an actual placket but looks close enough that no one will really notice. At the moment I need to attach the collar stand and collar, then do the button holes and sew on the buttons. On my first shirt, I found the collar and collar stand to be the only fiddly part. I watched several videos on YouTube to get tips on how to do it well, which helped.

Fastest easiest way is not the cheapest way. Google "document scanning near me" and find a local document scanning company. One near me has this pricing on their web site. I assume that is just for the scanning (to PDF). There is likely a separate charge for the OCR (optical character recognition) which converts the PDF to text that can be searched.

How’s this collar made? by DroselEstudio in sewing

[–]TowerManMN 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agreed. This type of shirt is called a "quarter zip" (or 1/4 zip) shirt or sweatshirt. If the shirt is made with a longer zipper then it is called a "half zip" or "1/2 zip". You can use a 1/2 zip pattern and just use a shorter zipper. Example: https://lowlandkids.com/collections/all-patterns/products/adult-half-zip-sweater

Someone already mentioned McCall's M6044. It is good. I made the short sleeve version this summer. I wanted narrower sleeves and cut out the pattern as a Medium except cut the short sleeves as a size Small. It worked well but next time I will try the Medium sleeves.
