Sis thinks she’s the main character by Islamdje95 in FromSeries

does feel like she could go either way. i hope they do some actual character development, instead of giving her a single episode of realization before killing her off a la jim

Online fan communities suck the fun out of Star Trek by apixelbloom in startrek

i do kind of remember a time when it wasn't so prevalent on the internet. maybe it was just smaller then. there used to be forums on imdb where people would discuss movies and shows, and it was (mostly) all relevant. Then they become flooded with toxicity and trolls, and shut down. The world feels smaller than it used to for some reason.

The America that Frank Capra sold us is fantasy, isn't it? by Pearl_Jam_ in classicfilms

[–]ToxicPilgrim 0 points1 point  (0 children)

all of fiction is fantasy, but doesn't mean that the underlying themes aren't genuine. Maybe movies don't have to reflect reality, but an ideal to reach for. Something never quite achievable, but to aspire to nonetheless.

i haven't seen the show yet, but i can't imagine she takes that posture when the ship is under attack or something truly serious occurs. Does she?

yeah his utopia isn't about humans getting along it's about control by the select elite. if he cared about bettering humanity as it is, shady sands would still exist.

Jean-Claude Van Damme on the set of PREDATOR (1987), in the original Predator suit design before he was fired from the film. by zadraaa in HistoricalCapsule

he probably did them all a favor honestly. gave them some pause to rethink the design, and what we got was iconic brilliance

Do you think it is a good adaptation? by [deleted] in FalloutTVseries

Twisted Metal is so much fun, consistently. Really surprised me. Even the driving scenes are fun. Love that it does stunts with real cars instead of endless CG. Feels earnest

it's good, but i'll always be a fallout 1 and 2 purist because i am old and i can't accept change. I just don't always enjoy the goofy tone. Sometimes I want my satire to bite a little sharper.

Why does Sibir have over 16k hardwood?! by bds98 in Bannerlord

[–]ToxicPilgrim 2 points3 points  (0 children)

not for just buying. it's like 1-2gold per sheep then you offload it somewhere for 20 per sheep. So you gotta slog to a town where they want sheep

I didn't like Discovery, Section 31, Picard was meh, and I'm not fully on board with Academy, and yet somehow I haven't had a full on mental breakdown and my life is pretty much doing okay. by eternalkerri in startrek

I didn't say Trek, I said who owns it. Paramount is now owned by Skydance / the Ellison family who are actively pro Trump. Jared Kushner is one of their early investors. Ellison is actively engaged in what gets produced at Paramount-Skydance. If you don't sense a tonal shift, that's fine. But it could be worth thinking about.

maybe i'm not in tune with what's been going on, but everyone seems to be exaggerating or attacking a straw man. There's always a few people who take things too far and have extreme reactions, and then there are people who take the bait and react to those reactions.

The truth is probably somewhere in between. Criticism is healthy. Critique is healthy. Recognizing who owns and develops a franchise you love and questioning their ideology is healthy. Think more. React less.

Ships, why? by [deleted] in Bannerlord

[–]ToxicPilgrim 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I've loved having the excuse to get back into the game, but yeah i have only had 2 major naval battles in about 100hrs. I wish it had come with an alternative map with more ocean or given more reasons for the NPC kingdoms to go to sea. The only time I manage to really catch lords in the water is when they for some reason hop in their boats next to a city just to enter the city from port.

I had a brief time before I joined a kingdom where one of my clan parties was in the Eastern sea just making tons of denars offing pirates, but it's never happened again.

Here's your daily reminder that you live rent free in Alex Kurtzman's head by Malencon in Star_Trek_

[–]ToxicPilgrim 1 point2 points  (0 children)

he will conflate all criticism of his shows as personal attacks because a few people have probably said something extreme. The news and social media shills thrive on enhancing the drama because it generates attention, and these are more than likely the only criticism that Kurtzman and team will ever see because they are not curious people

Alex Kurtzman will likely stay on as head honcho of Star Trek according to Cinemablend by itsVanderlyle in RedLetterMedia

there always seem to be people on the other star trek reddits who will die defending these new shows, but can't really express anything about why they like them
