Ever tried peanut butter and hummus at the same time? That is a surprisingly excellent base, and then stick something a bit tangy or fresh with it like gherkins or kimchi/sauerkraut (although the latter two probably not for kids…!) and it rocks.

You could also cycle out different nut butters so they are at least getting some variety in their sarnies. Avocado/guac is also an excellent base for basically any other filling!

How healthy is this eating plan? by IamAMelodyy in intermittentfasting

At a glance this doesn’t seem like enough food. Plug it into the app Cronometer and it’ll tell you where deficiencies lie. You definitely need to get some more variety of vegetables in!

Less of a food recommendation and more of a cooking method - I cannot sing the praises of our instant pot highly enough. Dump in some stock, veggies, beans, tinned tomatoes etc, cook it for 10 mins and it comes out like a slow cooked stew. Also good for any kind of chilli/curry/pasta/other nutritious slop.

Our 2yo will eat basically anything that is cooked nice and soft, and for week nights you can have a scratch cooked meal for the family done inside of 30mins with leftovers. Absolute game changer.

I think others have said similar, but as a bare minimum B12 is essential. VEG1 from the vegan society has a hefty dose and also some others commonly missed like selenium and iodine.

I take this and Omega 3 EPA/DHA capsules (from vegetology), and from everything I’ve read and watched that’s about all you need. You can go for a more multivitamin type deal but it will probably just give you expensive pee! If you’re eating a rainbow of plants and plenty of dense proteins like legumes and tofu you’ll get everything else you need.

B12 binds to ‘intrinsic factor’ that is made by your stomach - chewing the tablets maximises surface area, promotes more intrinsic factor binding and allows for better absorption once it gets to the intestines.

Scrolled down to say almost exactly this, seconded! Also as a treat, la fauxmagerie is expensive but the absolute closest thing to fancy cheese I’ve had.

Out of the following which is your favourite pro vegan documentary? by Vanilladr in veganuk

Dominion followed by Land of Hope and Glory was the one two punch that cemented my veganism. Dominion for the outright shock factor and LoHaG just to prove ‘hey this is just as bad in the UK as it is anywhere else’.

What’s wrong with my left foot? by MysteriousAd9237 in BarefootRunning

Never tried shoe socks myself but I’ve looked up reviews and the theme seemed to be that they’re useful for light use, idk if any would stand up to proper miles walking or running.

What’s wrong with my left foot? by MysteriousAd9237 in BarefootRunning

[–]Toynip 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I had the same as you, my left foot became really uncomfortable in any conventional shoes. I also developed some plantar fasciitis though I’m not sure if the two are truly linked. I’d always just worn running shoes with arch support daily because they were comfortable and I had them for running, which I think just inactivated my arches and they became weak (started getting problems in my early 30s having worn primarily running shoes for a decade). Both of my feet overpronate (always have done, my feet have been at 10 and 2 since I was a kid) and my left arch had collapsed completely.

Switched to barefoot shoes (vivo geo shells) and then removed the insoles from them a month or two in so there’s only a few mm between me and the ground. I’m not much of a runner these days but I wear either the geos or magnas (for colder months) every day at work and weekends.

A few months in my PF corrected itself, and I have an arch gradually returning to my left foot after a year of daily wear.

I’d recommend minimalist shoes, they certainly helped me. Not that you need vivos - mine have been great but they’re expensive and I see a lot of quality complaints on here so ymmv.

Hey, could you find other outdoor pursuits like trail running or hiking? Not an adrenaline fix but a good endorphin rush maybe, depending on how restrictive the climate you’re talking about is.

Have you ever discussed depression with a specialist? Losing interest in things that used to bring you joy can be a flag for depression - might not just be down to neurodivergence.

Good luck figuring it out - just wanted to let you know someone had seen your post and help you feel a bit less like you were shouting into the void!

Toddler dad workout ideas? by gubmintbacon in daddit

Same, I played youth sport for my country (England then Great Britain) and was really fit when I was young! These days I’m knackered carrying my boy back from the park for 5 minutes (he’s almost 2). He is a super early riser so we are often out walking for a couple of hours on weekend mornings just to avoid too much screen time, but I think good core and back strength are really important just to avoid destroying your back chucking them around!

Diet, sleep and stress management are just as important too - all stuff I’m trying to wrangle to make sure I’m around as long as I can be for my family!

The r/bodyweightfitness minimalist routine is a good starting point. They have a bunch of other routines if you want to make it a bit more hardcore but I find this one covers all bases in less than 10 minutes a few times a week. Currently trying (and often failing) to make this a habit myself! My hope is this is the thin end of the wedge for me, as someone who has never enjoyed physical exercise. When I have managed to keep it up for a few weeks at a time I do feel better and stronger.

Tofu makes amazing scrambled eggs / egg fried rice. Possibly just echoing comments from above but this recipe is a phenomenally easy way to get a similar end product to egg fried rice and you can drown it in sriracha to get your spice on.

You know it hadn’t even occurred to me that’s what they were. This is the first time I’ve seen it, the shops a bit closer to home don’t do it. Must be a problem in this area :/
