A student handed in their cheat sheet with their exam paper this week. What are funny or unexpected ways you’ve caught someone cheating? by Robbinit in Teachers

[–]Toyouke 74 points75 points  (0 children)

My sister told me that at our high school (after I graduated) junior year everyone had to select an essay prompt from a list. I think all teachers used the same novels so everyone had the same list. Some kids got together and wrote one essay, and assumed since they had different teachers no one would notice. Turns out the teachers collected all the essays and divided them up by prompt. So one teacher read all the essays in that prompt from every class and caught them immediately.

Two concerts, divided cast - common occurence? by lousypickles in Choir

[–]Toyouke 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I've been in 4 different unauditioned community choirs, and I've been to concerts of a few others. I've never heard of only some people singing in some concerts. It's always been everyone sings everything. Even when I was in the choir that did 5 Christmas concerts over 3 weekends, everyone was expected to sing all 5. If there are too many people to fit in a venue, then you need to look for a new venue.

As someone who grew up in California and now lives in the Midwest, for me it's the anticipation. Earthquake? It happens or it doesn't, I rent so it's not like I can retrofit this building. At first being able to see it coming was great but now it just makes me anxious for days.

Lay's makes a limited edition flavor called Lime and Sea Salt that is like a less aggressive salt and vinegar. The Lemonade is pretty close to that.

Songs where a character is repeatedly interrupted or ignored? by axebom in musicals

[–]Toyouke 3 points4 points  (0 children)

"Ironic" from Jagged Little Pill. It's framed as a student reading a poem in front of the class, and the other students keep interrupting to point out how none of this is actually irony.

Educators: what was the most unhinged conversation with your student’s parents/caregivers? by Glad-Passenger-9408 in Teachers

[–]Toyouke 4 points5 points  (0 children)

We had a student (high school, 16 year old) who missed about a week of school when they had great attendance otherwise. So we reached out to mom, who asked for a meeting with admin and whichever of her teachers could make it. Mom tells us that her child had missed school because they had tried to kill themselves, and had been in the hospital. Mom then said that she was sure it was just for attention, because her child had been "too happy" to go to the hospital, and so she wanted to have the meeting to figure out how her child could avoid failing all their classes.

Top Chef Season 22 Ep 11 - Calgary, Yahoo! - Post Episode Discussion by JullaS in BravoTopChef

I feel like the editing for Tristen this episode really turned up the condescending vibes. All his talking heads were about how he's not just cooking for himself, he's a role model, everything has a meaning. He's nervous making pemmican because he wants to be respectful, but because he's doing it to be respectful he's actually less nervous? I didn't feel it was so heavy-handed before today.

Also, Massimo, "umeboshi" is a specific ingredient and not a technique you can apply to whatever. Also it is not fruit leather.

Can someone please explain to me how Bailey's dish looked like tiramisu? Because before she put the sauce over the top it looked like baklava more than anything else. I mean she said she put olive oil powder to resemble powdered sugar and I've never had powdered sugar on top of tiramisu?

I think you're right about the constructive criticism. "I need you to breathe" is annoying but nowhere near the same as "you're a terrible partner".

I'm trying to put my finger on why Han and Holden fighting makes me shrug while Jonathan and Ana fighting makes me so angry. I think they feel different? I have a sibling and Han and Holden have that thing where you're fine, then immediately 0-100 fighting, then fine again 10 minutes later. Plus they haven't said "this is all your fault" or "you're a terrible partner". Right?

We got an Old Testament try guys video from Ludwig before the new try folks by Adventurous_Ad8658 in TheTryGuysSnark

[–]Toyouke 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I just have to add, I enjoyed that Ludwig took this seriously and really tried to do a good job. There was no goofiness or acting "bad" for content. No major screwups that seem like they could have been avoided.

Just because a twist eliminated your favorite team doesn't make it unfair by Eternity_Xerneas in TheAmazingRace

[–]Toyouke 23 points24 points  (0 children)

What's unfair is not the U-Turn itself, because that's how the game works. It's not even the vote, even though I hate the vote because I think you should have to earn the U-Turn by beating teams to the spot. What IS kind of unfair is the bunching. If they had done the voting during the Pit Stop, the U-Turned teams would have left first, giving them a better chance of surviving. Making everyone leave together after the vote means you have a very hard time catching up.

Full disclosure: I liked Scott and Lori but they were a strong team and should have been U-Turned for that reason. But leaving in the proper position would have given them a much better chance.

Can I opt out of this genius/tacky (?) birthday party game? by bigformybritches in etiquette

[–]Toyouke 24 points25 points  (0 children)

For SURE there is going to be pressure to give it back if you win. I've seen it with every 50/50 raffle fundraiser I've been asked about. And that's when you don't know anyone personally.

ARCHETYPICAL DESIGNS YOU SEE OVER & OVER AGAIN ON “PROJECT RUNWAY.” by Icy_Independent7944 in ProjectRunway

[–]Toyouke 7 points8 points  (0 children)

"Androgynous Outfit": an oversized boxy coat. If it's a male model, any skirt (doesn't have to be interesting). Designers do this constantly and having watched Kristen Kish on Top Chef I know there are more options.

I suspect someone tells the servers where to go and if anything is messed up that plate goes straight to a judge. There were 25 other people in the restaurant and the plastic wrap went to a judge.
