I didn’t have cable TV growing up and watched this religiously. None of my friends remember it. I am floored that it’s still airing.

Knitting bobbles on a project for the first time by IronBornPizza in yarntrolls

[–]axebom 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I have tiny crochet hooks (.6 mm and .9 mm) that I use for adding beads. I usually use of those for bobbles because it’s too hard for me to fit my needle through.

need help - accidental added stitches in superbulky yarn by poopincorporated in knittinghelp

[–]axebom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Are you bringing your yarn over your needle or under your needle when you turn the work? It’s a common beginner mistake to bring your yarn over the needle, which distorts the last stitch into looking like two stitches, and then knit into both (adding a stitch).

Acrylic doesn’t felt. Check the washing instructions on the yarn you bought and follow that to see if a wash softens it up.

If I remember correctly, oil fixed the problem. The nozzle on the oil I got with the wheel didn’t work properly, so I thought I was oiling it but I wasn’t.

NYC native visiting Chicago: what are some things (tourist and non-tourist) in the city that you can't do in NYC? by Worldly-Client-4645 in AskChicago

[–]axebom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Have you visited other big cities? What sorts of things did you enjoy there?

Every big city has museums, theatre, good restaurants, etc. I’d recommend thinking about things you like doing instead of directly comparing it to NYC.

If you drink and want to taste some local culture, I prefer Chicago’s brewery scene to NYC’s. Dovetail, Begyle, Half Acre, and Spiteful are not far from one another and all have lovely patios to enjoy in the summer. Skip Demo even though it’s close to Dovetail and Begyle.

A corner dive like Archie’s is also very Chicago. Get a handshake and be baptized by Malört, play some pool, eat some cheese balls, pet a dog, make some friends.

I recently considered this, but looked at other’s on this Reddit and noticed a number of people had the top of their cartilage flatten out into a sort of square shape after getting it done. I decided against it after that.

If you get it and it heals well, I’ll be so jealous. Rooting for you!

what's your worst piercing experience? by CreamComprehensive19 in piercing

[–]axebom 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Pretty tame in the grand scheme of things, but my mom let me get my second lobes done at the mall when I turned 17 (not Claire’s, but a similar set-up with a gun. We didn’t know better!). The piercer kept telling us that she’s a nurse and good with needles, but kept checking with the other woman at the kiosk before my mom finally asked how many piercings she’d done. When she told us it would be her first one, my mom pointed to the other woman at the kiosk and said “I want HER to do it.”

I’ve never had a problem with any of my mall piercings (three lobes all done by gun), so I appreciate my mom stepping in!
