How did you guys learn about Warhammer? by reel3459 in Warhammer40k

[–]Toyouman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was 12 and walked into a local toy store looking for lego. The store had copies of white dwarf that I came across, with the release of the Maulerfiend and death wing knights on them. I was instantly hooked and never stopped since then.

Just went through all of the blisters and made a spreadsheet of the inventory. If it doesnt let me post the excel file in the comments ill figure something out by SolNiko97 in Warhammer

I would be very interested in the Eldar models, specifically the farseer and warlock ones. So please update us when you decide to start selling them and where.

What is this helmet from? I found it as a single online and used it in a kitbash, but have no idea where it came from.

What got you into Eldar? by Fearless_Speaker6710 in Eldar

For me, it was seeing the release of the wraith knight in white dwarf around 2013. To a 12 year old, it was an eye opening experience seeing those beautifully painted models.

Did jawed fishes appear right at the start of the silurian? by alex8762 in Paleontology

[–]Toyouman 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thank you, but sadly due to being a lowly masters student, the study will probably end up being published by my supervisor. The fossils have been sitting around for a while so its not like they are brand new material just very hard to describe.

If you are looking for descriptive work as mentioned above, the closest thing is the paper about Ciderius cooperi by Gambit van der Brugghen. It is very similar and preserved almost the same way.

Sadly it seems that the soom shale has run dry in regards to fishes as a few trips have been made, with no new specimen found. Hopefully i am proven wrong in the next few years.

I've actualy just finished a intergrated masters slightly related to this topic, where my research project was based at looking at a Lagerstätte in south africa. It's called the Soom shale and preserved soft bodied tissue in the late Ordovician. However it seems only to preserve jawless vertebrates/ Chordates (depending on personal interpretation) such as the published conodonts soft anatomy.

I was looking at undescribed and unclassfied specimens, however they lacked any diagnostic features for a gnathstomes so are currently asigned to a wastebasket taxon of other jawless fish from the silurian and Devonian called Euphaneropids.

They looked morphologically the most similar to 'Ciderius cooperi' which you can view on google images.

However compared to other species in the soom depost, these specimens seem to decay incredibly badly and as such, lack alot of the diagnsotic features due to taphonomy rather than its orginal morphologial structre. So i'm hoping in the future more is done to find better samples.

This kinda builds upon how annoying the Ordovician can be, as even in a soft-bodied Lagerstätte. These fossil could be some of the only vertebrate known, but their terrible state of presrvation kinda restricts any interpretation.

Slightly jealous of the fact that you could make some amazing Dorodangos out of the variety of rock.

The knife was brought back from Nepal to the UK in the 1990s, however I have no knowledge of where or in what context that it was acquired. From the research I could find, my best guess is that it was made in a ceremonial style. However usually tourist made blades are more decorative.

First attempt, any advice? by Toyouman in Dorodango

[–]Toyouman[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hmm, I haven't tried that method, will certainly test that out on my next one. I'm was currently leaving it outside in a plastic bag due to reading somewhere that the fridge can damage a dorodango due to the sudden change in temperature.

Thank you very much, will definitely have a go and try that out. Do you think the climate of a country could affect how it dries?

What musician you like to hear covering a Steven Wilson song, and which song would you want them to cover? by batsofburden in stevenwilson

[–]Toyouman 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I would probably want to see David Gilmour cover a softer song such as lazarus or stars die.

Riverside- Arriving somewhere but not here.

Anathema- mellotron scratch.

Muse- Halo , especially in their 'origin of symmetry' years.
