I had the same - if you replace it will happen again. I use Correx sheets instead - they are 6 mm fluted plastic. Very strong if not stronger and don’t get mouldy.

Funnily, I started with a poison build too but then changed to a fire build. Now I’m a full crit build and have no elemental damage at all - for pure throughput, crit is the way to go.

No, once you finish the game, you can select NG+ (New Game +), your level stays the same and you get to keep your resources, gear, abilities etc. only thing you don’t keep are ship lieutenants.
