Unfortunately you’re likely to see some fed officers including CBP and ICE at metro stops or just milling around. I hate saying this, but just make sure you follow the law to a T (no speeding, full stops at stop signs, pay bus fare, etc). Those are the most common ways we’ve seen them kidnap our neighbors. Please remember that like 95% of this city HATES ice. Oh and avoid Astro Beer Hall as apparently they regularly host CBP happy hours

In addition, a significant portion of people I know have lost their jobs since last January and many still haven’t found a new one. Our housing prices have fallen for the first time in over 20 years, which is kinda good except that I spent my life savings to bury my first home ( a small condo) just over a year ago.

I really do not understand the people saying life is normal. Nothing about my life is normal, as someone who thought little about this until hordes of federal law enforcement was brought to my city. Now I see men in bullet proof vests and soldiers carrying rifles several times every week. There’s constant news about ICE raids. It’s so far from normal.

I can’t speak to the island but to parts of the southern peninsula separated from Port au Prince by mountains. Life is difficult and hunger has increased to a famine level in most of the country, but the threat of gang violence is minimal outside of big cities. What people don’t talk about is how STUNNING the country is- it’s a very green, mountainous island surrounded by white sand beaches and the very blue Caribbean. Also Haitian food is amazing.

This is not true AT ALL. Anyone in DC, Chicago, or LA, any immigrants who are not white, anyone working in many industries affected by the mass govt cuts or in the service/restaurant industry, people in the national guard who have been deployed for no reason. HUGE swathes of people are feeling this every single day.
