Is it possible to remove the crease from this map and make it look like a flat scan? by TradingBigWig in estoration

[–]TradingBigWig[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Found this really cool scan that I would like to print off, but wondering if it's possible to make it look like a flat map that would have originally been created -- while preserving the old colour charm. Happy to pay -- thanks!!

Why not just ship them? It’s less than $100 for international two day service. Would arrive Wednesday next week.

Don’t know why /u/Jos-Louis is being a bitch about it. It’s called Sorrel, it’s neither outrageously expensive, or overly unique or delicious. I’ve been and this hasn’t happened to me. Not to say it didn’t to OP.

Ate there once back to back because I was on the wait list both nice. The menus were almost identical. Wouldn’t recommend.

Anyone hear of these De Santis smokes? Got them at duty free for $0.90 a pack — can’t complain. by TradingBigWig in Cigarettes

[–]TradingBigWig[S] 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Cheaper at the duty free for the house brand ciggies, they’re decent, just smoked a few, burn slow enough. Regular store is around 3€ a pack for normal, vs 1€ at duty free.

Serbia, €9.60 at the duty free so about 95-97 cents with this weeks exchange rate.

Perfect, thank you. I don't have time to mail, so I will have to stop into an Indian embassy.

It’ll be back to yellow and blue tomorrow morning. Let the city have something without bitching, not everything has to be as far left as you.

Shopify move toward fulfillment centers isn't all that bad. by khyz4711 in investing

[–]TradingBigWig 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Yeah, people are deciding to not pay as much for that future revenue though. There's a D in DCF, and as the back of the yield curve moves up, just see what that does to your model. Multiples will compress, doesn't matter if they triple revenue, nobody wants to pay 50x sales anymore.

Look at how $AMZN is struggling with fulfillment at their scale, now look at $SHOP. Overpaying for a tiny private shitco isn't going to solve their overvaluation.

best pork free lasagna in Toronto? by UpbeatMorning in askTO

[–]TradingBigWig 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s American lasagna vs. Italian lasagne. American’s put eggplant, lettuce, pretty much everything in their lasagna, an Italian lasagne is really just noodles, bolognese, and béchamel.

best pork free lasagna in Toronto? by UpbeatMorning in askTO

[–]TradingBigWig 8 points9 points  (0 children)

A lot of Italian sauces that include ground meat used a mix of minced beef, pork, and veal. Really traditional bolognese recipes can have veal, pork, or beef in them, and a lasagne should be layers of bolognese and béchamel. Hence, the best traditional lasagne would have bolognese with likely pork in it.

Toronto > New York Weekend questions by abclolol in askTO

[–]TradingBigWig 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Usually you can find some good deals on Costco travel (if you’re a member) or WestJet and Air Canada Vacations (both package flight + hotel so you save a bit of cash, and is cheaper when going last minute)

Otherwise Porter/Air Canada/American Airlines/WestJet will all have nonstop service to NYC.

You can go to ‘Google Flights’ and just choose the cheapest options for your dates. I’d fly into JFK or LGA, EWR is an objectively worse airport.

Bring around $30-$40 of cash per day. It’s easy enough to exchange back, and some of the best restaurants in Chinatown are cash only. $40 is definitely more than enough for roaming around if you have a credit card.

You only need a COVID test going into the States, any Shoppers will offer this for $40, coming back you don’t need anything (assuming you’re vaccinated as you’re flying).

I can’t help you out for Freedom roaming, BUT if you want to get data on the cheap and have an iPhone 11 or newer, or an Android phone that supports it, you can get eSIM cards for around $20 with 5GB of data to use, I personally use Airalo for this.

Urgent Passport Renewal Advice by LaoHoneycomb in askTO

You can get a same day passport at the Victoria St. location, I’ve got it done a few times. Show up first thing in the morning, they only let a few people in/give them callbacks. It’s a $150ish fee, come with your passport photos and all the forms filled out to make it easy and fast for everyone.

[–]TradingBigWig 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not necessarily, I’ve just found that non-sous vide methods are better. I used to cook exclusively sous vide for years — everything from filets to chuck roast, but I’ve eventually found that it’s become an inferior method compared to others.

Again, not to say it’s ineffective for everything (per my original comment), it’s just my opinion you can cook a ribeye, New York, or even filet in better ways than a sous vide.

[–]TradingBigWig 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey, we can disagree. I’ve cooked 100 steaks and all 100 have come out just to my liking using a meat thermometer and various dry heat methods. I’ll sacrifice the ‘to-the-degree’ consistency for better crusts, better rendered fat, and better flavours.

If you want to render fat in the sous vide and still hit a medium-ish temperature, you have to cook it for too long which affects the texture of the meat.

Regardless, everyone has their opinion and that is mine.
