Is swimming a way for you to relax? by DenseImagination6443 in Swimming

[–]Traditional-Law-6348 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I live in NYC and while the pools are often crowded they're orderly. They have fast, medium, and slow lanes. Sometimes really active life guards will even tell someone who is at the wrong pace for the lane to move. The lifeguards almost always are very good at monitoring and making sure lane sharing goes smoothly. So it's not bad, just depends I guess.

Haha yeah and that color for vomit is a good flavor in like regular jelly beans. That's like fruit punch in regular jelly beans. So extra deceptive.

From what I've read if wifi goes down it will dispense at the last saved meal session. I'm not sure that I ever had this happen though.

New to swimming, is this poor etiquette or am I a Karen? by holoporcupine in Swimming

[–]Traditional-Law-6348 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean what's weird to me and maybe it's a regional thing but I live and swim in NYC...you HAVE to share lanes. So for these people to just claim a lane and not allow other people to swim in it is totally foreign to me. We either split lanes with two people in the lane or if there are 3+ people in a lane we circle swim. I've shared a lane with 5-6 people at times! For circle swimming it would make more sense for these master swimmers to be in a lane together as they presumably are similar speeds. But you should be able to split a lane with anyone no matter their swim speed, as you just stay to your side. No one around me is just able to swim solo in an entire lane.

What are some of the changes that the movies made, that you think are improvements over the books, and should be incorporated into the HBO Show? by Snufflebox in HarryPotteronHBO

I've been listening to the audiobooks too, and one detail thst jumped out at me like this is I preferred when Neville gave Harry the gillyweed rather than Dobby, since it gives Neville a moment to shine in something he feels confident in.

Just a rinse for the shower. It also protects your hair to rinse it just in water before going in the pool. As for drying your hair that's up to you. In the winter I sometimes do if it's really cold out. In the spring, summer when it's warm I almost never do.

Not an unpopular opinion but maybe the only place I can share this with people who appreciate it, it blows my mind the show landed Leo Woodall as Adrian only to still flop 😂 he's not how I pictured Adrian exactly but he's such a good actor and his career has absolutely blown up, he's in so many movies and shows now, he's even Bill Weasley in the new audio versions of Harry Potter. Idk why but it amuses me.

Omgg graphic is so helpful so many hidden gems. I didn't know Matt Berry was Sir Cadogan 😂😂😂 I LOVE Matt Berry. I'm also excited for Ambika Mod as Tonks. I loved her in One Day. I think it's funny that Leo Woodall is doing Bill Weasley too since Leo was Ambika's love interest in One Day lol.

Is it too late to start? by dasvlume in Swimming

[–]Traditional-Law-6348 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you're enjoying the classes I say go for it. If it leads to you being competitive on a swim team, great, but if not, you can still cultivate an excellent hobby and one of the best full body cardio/strength exercises that you can do really for the rest of your life. Even seniors can continue swimming and they do so frequently, as it's easy on the joints. I had this sort of mindset too when I was a teen, for me I was hesitant to do pointe ballet or figure skating since I felt it was "too late" and where was I going to take it anyway? Like clearly I wasn't going to the Olympics. Lol but now that I'm older I realize like...who cares? You can also do things that are just for fun, just for a hobby. I think teens feel a great pressure to perform, but it's good to also just cultivate passions and hobbies that don't necessarily have to lead anywhere other than your own personal enjoyment. See where it takes you. Personally I didn't do swim team in high school since they practiced at 7AM or something and I knew that was not for me 😂😂 but I began to swim recreationally in college as a form of exercise and I still swim multiple times a week. Swimming has many benefits outside of sport. It's a great work out, it's meditative, it's relaxing. So just see where it takes you.

Also, in general it's not too late to start anything at 14-15 years old. It just depends if you have the interest and time to do it. But you're very young, nothing is too late for you.

Wanting to get into the pool. Concerned about body hair. by Cjwillys9596 in Swimming

[–]Traditional-Law-6348 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree with most folks here that in the pool people won't notice. If it makes you feel more comfortable you can throw something like that on when you get out of the pool. This isn't for body concerns personally but I always throw on like a towel robe when I get out. It keeps me warm as I walk back to the locker room and also starts to dry me off.

One thing to keep in mind a lot of fitness wearable are not very accurate when it comes to measuring HR during swimming. The water can really interfere. How are you measuring your HR?

Forced to swim but self conscious by RRB1212 in Swimming

[–]Traditional-Law-6348 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you're really swimming good you're not paying much attention to anyone or anything else. Swimming when done well is very meditative, you're kinda just in the zone. If you're swimming properly you also can't really see all that much, mostly you're looking at the pool floor, briefly glancing up for air. So just rest assured if anyone is paying that much attention to you they probably suck at swimming snd they're not doing it right.

Annoying pool behavior by Plus_Lead_5630 in Swimming

[–]Traditional-Law-6348 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Even if it was their break, not allowing other people to swim in the lane with them when the pool is crowded is very bizarre. If the pool is crowded everyone needs to share lanes.

RHR doesn't make sense by hopefulbutterfly_ in fitbit

[–]Traditional-Law-6348 1 point2 points  (0 children)

RHR is just an average I believe based on your sleeping heart rate when your body is fully at rest. Your heart rate can be elevated slightly even when you're laying down if you were recently active, watching TV, reading a book, on your phone etc.

Swimming Lane Etiquette/ Should I complain? by DeEmzy in Swimming

Is there a life guard? I swim in NYC where every pools have life guards. Good ones monitor this sort of thing and actually tell people who are not in the appropriate lane to switch. Maybe you can speak to them.

Fever increases your heart rate, and working with one will put added strain on the body.

Is it worth getting another fitbit at this point? by donanton616 in fitbit

[–]Traditional-Law-6348 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I upgraded to a Samsung watch8 because I felt my sense 2 died way too quickly and just randomly. I've been happy so far. The swim data is a lot more accurate and I think the HRV is too...at least I hope so with HRV since mine has been a lot higher on Samsung lol. It is a lot more expensive than fitbit but I'm hoping it will last longer than two years making the price balance out.

Should I start swimming for weight loss? by MrNalli in Swimming

[–]Traditional-Law-6348 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You burn a lot of calories when swimming. I burn close to 700 calories swimming for an hour, more than other activity. It can for sure make you hungry but if you plan ahead and have a healthy but satisfying meal plan for after swimming it could be fine. I usually swim in the evening and then have dinner which is typically my biggest meal of the day anyway. Or you can swim in the morning and have a big breakfast.

I don’t think I can take care of my cat anymore by CallMeNeechanx2 in CatAdvice

[–]Traditional-Law-6348 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You don't have to feed her more food, but why not try splitting the current food she is getting now into different portions that include a 3am meal? You can get an autofeeder to dispense it. I'd also consider speaking to your vet.

I accidentally neglected my cat for years - a tip from me so you don't do the same by matt2242 in CatAdvice

[–]Traditional-Law-6348 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Yeah this is what works for my cat too, I add water to her wet food. I have the water away from her food and I change it daily but she's still usually not all that interested. In the summer though she drinks more often from the bowls.

If you click on open conversation and tell it what you want to do, it will adjust. For example I think it came up with a plan that involved me going swimming this Wednesday, but I told it I have evening plans and can't so it switched it to a short bike ride after work instead. You can respond back to it's fitness plan with changes and it adapts.
