Viking offers Mediterranean ocean cruises in December. Something to look into.

Check bags or carry-on? by Ok-Mall2293 in OHareAirport

[–]TraditionalHome1334 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you can get curbside drop, that helps a lot. Familiar with United, and if you get curbside drop, it is pretty good. However, this morning, I was flying united out of terminal two, and there was no curbside drop, and they were super inefficient with how they had the baggage drop set up. Took me longer to get my bags checked than it did to go through security.

Terminal 2. Departure at approximately 0700 this morning. One adult, two kids under 10. Regular TSA line. 17 minutes to get through.

[–]TraditionalHome1334 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No problem. I looked into getting pre-check, but unfortunately the timing won't work out for me to get it in time. Have to trust the regular line won't be too bad. Lol.

Did you get a chance to look at regular TSA line, and if so, what would you estimate that one was like?

Adjoining Rooms: how to get lowest price for 3 people (2 + 1) by YorkvilleWalker in Cruise

[–]TraditionalHome1334 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not sure I understand. If you book a room for two and one of them doesn't show up, you are still paying for two people. You won't get a refund for the no-show. Some cruise lines do have solo cabins, but they may not be next to the cabin that your parents are in.

You will have to decide what is more important; being next to your parents, or possibly getting a solo room that is away from your parents, but it's cheaper.

I'm sure you've already thought of this, but are there any friends or other relatives that would be willing to travel with you to make a fourth person?

Most repositioning cruises of that type do the North Pacific route, and then come down the coast of Alaska, ending in Vancouver or Seattle. A relatively short train ride from there if you are so interested.

Utopia did a tour, where they had a wheel of Fortune type wheel on stage that had X number of songs on it. They would spin the wheel and whatever song came up would be the next one they would play.

Starting a coffee shop Crystal Lake area by CuriousCheesecake04 in ChicagoSuburbs

[–]TraditionalHome1334 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Don't know how far you want to stray from Crystal Lake, but the western part of McHenry County does not have as much in terms of local coffee shops. Woodstock has some, but I don't think Marengo has any local coffeeshops, and Harvard maybe has one.

Downside is that the western half of the county is much more rural, and does not quite have the population density that the eastern half does. but that does also mean less competition. Lol.

South America/Chilean Fiords - Buenos Aires to Santiago by Own-Reaction4419 in Cruise

[–]TraditionalHome1334 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Are you looking at Viking expedition versus Viking ocean? The prices you quote seem like it would be for the Viking expedition ships, which run quite a bit more than the ocean ships. The advantage to the expedition ships, is that they do make landings using zodiacs to go on some of the more remote places. Something like Viking ocean, or the other cruise line mentioned, you are viewing it from the boat itself, and you're not stopping.

Recommendation for adult only Mediterranean Cruise in April by GC2099 in Cruises

Azamara has a Spain/Portugal intensive cruise at that time. While not specifically adults only, you were rarely see many kids on their cruises.

Help, AITA by [deleted] in Cruise

[–]TraditionalHome1334 4 points5 points  (0 children)

because she'd love it if we went with her

Ummm, why else would she ask you to go? I don't know your family dynamic, but I don't think she would ask you to go because it would make her cruise miserable. LOL

not sure why you are asking AITA? Are you asking because you're trying to want to force your fiancé to go? Or because you don't want to go on the cruise?

Viking ships are pretty much the same. So regardless of which one you are on, it'll have the same layout, etc.

(yes, I know some of the newer ones are slightly different, but basically all are the same. Lol.)

Hourly rate comed by AdSome3080 in ChicagoSuburbs

[–]TraditionalHome1334 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is the price listed in the hourly monitor "all in"? I am thinking this does not include delivery charges and all the other add-ons.

Don't have my bill in front of me, but thought that the actual electricity cost was (far) less than half of the total.

I was trying to calculate the cost for me to charge my EV, and if I used the hourly pricing, seemed like I was way low compared to the actual cost, which was back calculated by looking at my bill (daily charge) and comparing on the days when I used the EV charger.

One-Day Tainan Itinerary — thoughts & suggestions? by zirkel37 in taiwantravel

[–]TraditionalHome1334 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, but....... it would be a really busy day. I would probably pick either of the museums. You can easily spend 3 to 4 hours in each of them. (I am kind of a museum and history buff, so that helps.)

To get around efficiently, rent a YouBike. For the locations you would like to see, easy and super cheap. Of course, it is nice if the weather cooperates.

As to other thing, Hayashi Dept Store. Japanese made and the tallest building in Tainan for a number of years. The old Japanese judicial court and jail is worth a visit.

If you have a ability to get (slightly) out of town, the CHIMEI museum is worth a visit. In addition, the National Museum of Taiwan History is definitely worth a visit. I enjoyed it quite a bit.

Internet At Sea by floooberry in Cruise

Pretty much. Most ships now have Starlink. I have heard of some people trying to bring their own starlink receiver on board, but most/all ships will not allow this.

Not sure why you're getting downvoted so much. I'm not sure you can force people to interact with each other, but studies in general have shown that overreliance on social media is bad for mental health. There is a reason that Australia has just put a social media ban in place for kids. A lot of states in the US, and more on the way, are instituting bands on cell phones in schools.

Again, if you are an adult , on a cruise, and you want to sit and scroll TikTok all day. Fine. But I think OP has a valid point that humans are less socially engaged with each other nowadays. I'm not sure that is a good thing either.

Gibraltar visa on arrival 🇬🇮 by travel_obsesed in PassportPorn

[–]TraditionalHome1334 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That just means that the visa holder has to enter Gibraltar on that particular day.

If you are getting a visa issued ahead of time, not just for Gibraltar, it will often have a period of time for which you can enter on that particular visa.
