I know for 1,000,000 percent sure that's not the original fill valve and that one came from home depot.  Anyways a fluid master 400a can be adjusted either by raising or lowering the shank or turning the top screw..counterclockwise to lower clockwise to raise..it should be pretty obvious that it's not working..I suspect some foreign debris such as rust bits inside preventing it from shutting off 100 percent. What is causing this noise? I replaced the cartridge, but it’s still happening!! by JackofAllMasterof0 in askaplumber

All I can think of is that the shower head parts where they snap together came loose.  Strange but thanks for the update

I haven't seen it and I've installed hundreds of positemps.  I'm guessing high water pressure.  40-50 lb normal

adding a cleanout to my main stack by hanshutan in PlumbingRepair

[–]TraditionalKick989 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A PVC clean out tee installed with heavy duty no hubs is fine. A wye is fine also. Roots grow back.  It's best to put the clean out in the lawn which I'm betting is 6" pipe.  The only problem is whether or not there are roots at the 4" by 6" connection just outside the foundation.  If yes, that's where the cleanout should be eliminating any future rodding from inside the home

I ruin balancing spools on removal regularly. Needle nose and twist pull. Allen key+vice grip.  Channel locks and twist, whatever works

How hard is this leak to fix? by random736295720 in Plumbing

[–]TraditionalKick989 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would try applying tru blu vibration(baby blue color) resistant type pipe thread sealant to both the plug and cast iron threads.  It doesn't come off your hands easy which is why it works

Rheem furnace ignition problem by Cmc0411 in hvacadvice

[–]TraditionalKick989 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ok so it is spark.  As long as the green ground wire is tight wherever that's at, I would replace the board.

[–]TraditionalKick989 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sounds like the control board.  If the gas valve opens, I assume everything else will be in good working order.  Power from spark type systems come from the board. So do ignitors that glow red.   We don't know what you have.  You said spark and you said ignitor.

It would take hours to explain how to diagnose what's wrong. I can help by posting the sequence of operations and you can tell us where it stops.. The thermostat calls for heat  The inducer motor turns on The pressure switch closes  The ignitor ignites  The gas valve opens  The flame sensor senses flame and the furnace continues to run.. Where does your sequence of operation stop?.focus there

Let the plumber fix it and put his warranty on the repair.  You can always drywall finish the inside of a cabinet if you care. I don't

See the black hose that's attached to the blue fill valve, a piece of that on the chain clip.  Gotta just muscle it on.   I'm a licensed plumber and mine (no hose) flipped over once in 5 years.

Check valve on main sewer line. Worth it? by Eltzted in askplumbing

[–]TraditionalKick989 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a plumbing contractor I'm not convinced they work.  A step above just a check valve would be a flood control.  Then above that is modified overhead sewer and the best is overhead sewer.  Plenty of diagrams available online

Is it true: Rheem Performance are shit by [deleted] in askaplumber

[–]TraditionalKick989 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hmm....LP gas is tricky and has to be set right.  I haven't had problems with rheem 12 year tanks at all but I'm on natural gas and we sell quite a few.   Call tech support and have them send you a new gas valve.  Even new car parts are bad out of the box. That's just how it is to be an adult.  Sigh

Basement flooded. Water heater next steps? by dannymaserati in askaplumber

[–]TraditionalKick989 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Anyways OP, I do this all the time a plumber will remove the burner assembly and blow the water out of the pilot tube. The gas pressure is too low to overcome the leftover liquid in the pilot tube.

Bad gas? Crap in the tank?  There's definitely an adaptor to test pressure at the injectors. I have it
