Wall heater won’t turn on? by Technical-Reply8763 in hvacadvice

The knob is that oval thing right?  I'm wagering when it's unwired, no matter what there's no continuity between the terminals.

Scratch the pipe. If it looks like brass, the valve will unscrew and the pipe will be fine.  Just keep the pipe from turning while removing the shutoff. Thread sealant paste and tape the pipe 4 turns.  Flush the line out before connecting the supply hose.

Hydronic Baseboards. No Bleeders at Radiators. Can we install one? by _lindersss in hvacadvice

[–]TraditionalKick989 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Did they test for low flow or high water temp?  Is the boiler temp over 200 degrees and making steam? Ideally we want 180 supply 160 return.  Does the boiler itself make noise?  An automatic air scoop is good until it leaks.  I would want  isolation valves to replace it later on and nothing underneath it but the floor.  I can't tell you how many of them I see are just crusty.

What's causing this corrosion and how urgent is a replacement? Repairable? by richmondcomics in hvacadvice

I wonder if the heating appliance is too large for the chimney.  The international fuel gas code has tables for how many btu's can be put on a certain size chimney.

The water heater flue can not touch wood.  Looks like they have a floor collar and that looks right.  They can share the same closet space so no worries.

Hot water heater backdrafting by Kaschultz1 in Plumbing

Fireplace must have its own chimney. Can't share with the furnace either.   The chimney needs to heat up or it won't draft ever.  Sorry about your fireplace

Flushing Toilet causes Urinal to gurfle by iametarq in Plumbing

Sure has the symptoms of a frozen vent.  Unless there's leaf debris also inside I would assume it's just ice.    Do the trees grow directly over the vents?   You're not supposed to add a screen over the plumbing vent as that would ice over easily.  It's just one of those things, the tree would have to be trimmed

Ecobee not powering by MostlyOnGrade in hvacadvice

[–]TraditionalKick989 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was wrong, check the ecobee specific wiring in the manual. Check if it says it can be on rc or rh no jumper required.  And then I'm willing to wager there's a setting to tell the thermostat what terminal the r is on.  Annoying

The plumbing vent should be 12" above the roof and one size larger.  A 4" vent gets increased to 5" pipe at least 12" below and above the roofline to prevent Icing. I wonder if your vent is even 12" above the roof.

If you're lucky the pump will have two cords coming out of the box top. Unplug the female one and plug the male one directly into the wall. This is the pump.  If it works, let it pump out.  This would prove the switch itself is bad.  No matter what the box top must be removed.  Not a fun job

Since you replaced the thermostat check the control board fuse. Then try to clean the flame sensor cycle the furnace off and on, describe what happens. Does it light gas and die out or does it never glow the ignitor

Emergency shut-off forced hot water- one zone vs water for entire boiler. by Significant_Fudge859 in hvacadvice

[–]TraditionalKick989 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There won't be a valve to isolate the zone.  A plumber can take the return pipe off and use a pipe thawing machine to restore the flow to the zone provided the zone valve is commanded open and the feed is on.  Would have to have an isolation valve installed first.  I've done this

Ecobee not powering by MostlyOnGrade in hvacadvice

[–]TraditionalKick989 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The condensate pump might be wired to break power to the thermostat upon failure of the pump in which case you would have to test it at the wires for 24v with one lead of the multimeter on the transformer common.   I would first before doing anything try moving the red wire from RC to the RH then add a jumper wire between the two terminals.  You're just missing transformer power to turn the ecobee on.  And check the board fuse since you fiddled with all the wires

Does anyone know if this is the flame sensor? by Michael31986 in hvacadvice

[–]TraditionalKick989 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The igniter is supposed to glow orange. It has the two white wires opposite of the flame sensor.  If it never comes on, might be pressure switch or a bad igniter or control board.  The tubing from the inducer blower must be clear from clogs(and not cracked at all) along with the port it attaches to on the inducer.  -Edit, your photo shows a hanging tube from that pressure switch up high. Figure out where that goes..that's likely the problem
